Ships Fer-de-Lance Fer-de-Lance Owner's Club

Hi everyone,

I acquired a FDL some time ago, and know next to nothing about how to outfit it properly, or the meta, as such. I'd love to outfit it with some sort of stealth build. I read that almost everyone uses the FDL as a shield ship, but is there any half-decent stealth build for it? Maybe one only viable for PvE?

Thanks for any help! Cheers,

I wanted to share my build for the Mur-De-Lance. This is my PP and BH build. Hopefully in 4 weeks I'll have a nice set of Prismatics on her.

Heh, nice ship, Mordu.

I personally haven't tried using a docking computer on any of my ships, so I can't really comment on whether or not they're useful, but I do love just zooming in through the mail slot of a station at 350M/S in my Fer-de-Lance, and then dropping the landing gear, setting the throttle to 0 and gliding to a perfect landing on my assigned pad. (unless it's at the back of the station, in which case I'll set the throttle at about 100M/S until I get close of course.)

It's a fun ship and I love flying it - including the docking.

I'm not sure I'd go fighting with just MCs though - I hate it when my big gun runs dry, and I don't always have the patience to grab micro materials for synthesizing new ammo... But again, personal taste is personal taste.

As long as you're happy with the ship, that's all that matters.

Ladies and gents, meet the Minuteman

I purchased this ship long ago, and I don't grind enough to get anything more powerful. Admittedly, I don't really want much more; this thing is a tank. HRPs, shield boosters, the works. And with a few engineer mods (thanks, Felicity!) it can actually keep its power requirements in check.

I know it's been said a billion times before, but I agree with the abysmal jump range. I can't even squeeze 15 Ly out of the ship, and that's with a modified FSD.

After I got my Rear-Admiral and bought my Corvette I was so enamoured that I sold up every other ship I had, even my stored engineered modules and my Fer De Lance. I have spent the time since then enjoying the Corvette. I already had Elite in Trading and Pioneer in Exploration but previously had shied away from combat thinking that at my age my reactions weren't fast enough which was wrong as I got the hang of it in the FDL which I sold and continued with the Corvette and which I now stand at 49% Expert.

Up till now I had preferred mainly turreted weapons but recently put two engineered fixed cannons in the 1 slots in the Corvette and had gotten used to them. To be honest turrets are great but they give you limited DPS and it seemed to be taking longer to destroy attackers so I decided to get used to gimballed weapons but in an FDL as I did originally. So on Saturday I put the Corvette in the garage at Ferdie and Sidewindered the short 7ly jump to Hamal and bought myself a new FDL, got most of the A rated stuff there as well but had to go to Toci for the FSD and the 4A gimballed Beam I got at Sanctuary also in Artume. I had already checked that I had enough mats and data for a few G5 rolls on each module ans so I set of on a round trip beginning with the nearest engineer which was the Dweller for a G5 Power Distributer.

Last night I arrived back at Ferdie with a fully G5 engineered except for G3 Thrusters and G4 Power Plant, took some screenshots of the mods in Outfitting and and after adding my Black Friday paint job from Livery, a picture of her in the dock I signed out and headed over to the Corialis site to input the data. Now I am no stranger to engineering and knew that I had some good rolls but was really surprised at how much more powerful the new Dragon was compared to my old rigout. https://coriolis.edcd.io/outfit/fer...EDAAA=.EweloBhAOEoUwIYHMA28QgIwV0A=&bn=Dragon.

The best thing is that other than two extra rolls on one of the MC's and a second roll on the Power Plant they are all first rolls.

Unlike you m8 I hardly ever sell ships (38 at last count!!!!) but your post had me dusting off my FDL and heading off to the nearest HazRES to clear the cobwebs ;)

Previously I had 5 x efficient PAs fitted but the FDL is a bit too agile and drifty to work with PAs (the Python is the only ship I've tried that really works with an all PA weapon array) so I reverted to the classic 4 x gimballed pulse and 1 x huge PA, its still a superb ship and fun to fly after bigger/slower ships, still bu**er all range and a fragile hull but well worth those trade offs.

To anyone running 2x rails/3x PA, what are your thermal reductions?

I'm cooking myself with the PAs alone, with thermal reductions from 15-20%.

With the exception of the Saltyseadog, noone like turrets?
Bought yesterday as FdL ans I'm thinking on a build with 2 busts laser turrets (love the auto-shoot when I'm dodging or even seeking the target - you can done some dammage even with the target out of your field of view), 2 gimbelled multi-cannon, but I still dont know which weapon to use on a huge slot.

Normaly I'm using the FdL for Horizon missions, so I need de SRV on a internal optional.
But I need to resist some fire on the interdition, but I dont need a hardcore DPS ship - just enough to be able to do some "assassination mission".

Like everyone, I hate the jump range limit.

So m8s, tell me what you thing about laser turrets on this ships, I'm wrong?

Tks!
TM

I don't think turrets are that effective in the game.

I'm actually running all fixed now, 2 burst lasers, 3 plasma accelerators.

Just checking in. FdL has become my new favorite combat ship. I went up the Federal ranking and really enjoyed the Fed Assault Ship. I skipped over the FdL initially because my good friend (who bought the game for me as a gift) was going that route and I didn't want to just end up copying him. He didn't like it. Couldn't get past the right-hand-drive and paper-thin hull. Turns out, I should have looked into the FdL for myself. I love it. I love the massive shields. I never really used the Fed ships to their fullest potential because I never really got over watching ships shoot my hull. Instead of silent-running hull-tanking bi-weave shields going up and down, I tried to turn the FAS into a shield defense ship. I loved the agility, but wanted something a bit different.

Enter: Fer de Lance.
Yeah, this is the ship I wanted. This is it. Super agile. Fantastic shields. And yes, a bit of danger, cause if the shields go down ... you gotta run. Fantastic damage output. Fantastic hardpoints. Oh, and she looks a BEAUTY doing it.

Current loadout, PvE: Huge Beam plus 4 fixed cannons. Its hilarious. And I love it.

I present: the Bowie Knife. She glitters like Bowie, but cuts like a Bowie.

So I retired from the FGS Owner's Club today and traded in my Dakka Brick of Destruction to get an FDL

The Lovely Angel and she is already living up to the namesake and it's crew from The Dirty Pair...had to delete an NPC Bounty Hunter in a 'Conda who was Clean... It's not my fault! (4 Medium Pulse 1 Huge MC, all gimballed...)

FYI: Okay, this thing is just ridiculous. Flew it to almost all of the Engineers I have unlocked (still need the Dweller and his chain, Marco, and the Feds besides Farseer)...and tonight (just got off as I work tomorrow) I made 2 mill in one hour in a Hi-Res Site without even KW scanning most of the targets I engaged. The only things that gave me trouble was anything that deployed a fighter. Current mods for the weapons are Overcharged Grade 5 for that huge HC I put down below...SEcondary Affect of Armor Piercing. Combined with a PW geared to fast recharge across the board and Grade 5 Efficient Pulse Lasers with two Thermal Experimentals and Grade 3 Dirty Drives...I think I made a monster. O_O

Here's mine, it's an absolute beast and one of my favourite ships to fly. G5 Dirty Drives, 4 G5 efficient thermal venting beams, 1 huge overcharged multi cannon with corrosion. Shield wise around 1800 MJ and mid 50s for all resistances (It's A Grade though, so recharge is slow).

I don't PVP with it, but on PVE it's just a pit bull.

Also comes in Chrome :)

I would think about rapidfire pulses as you can probably get more DPS and DPE than an efficient beam. Lasers lose so much damage that you will need to use them close up anyway, so the added jitter isn't really a big factor for that kind of usage. You also get to do a light show.

I do recommend long range pulse or burst over other laser mods though.

I was looking at doing something like that actually, I just need the mats. Is it work putting Thermal vent on them? I don't have much experience with burst so I'm not sure what to expect.

Pulse and bursts can't take vent sadly.

Generally they can be run with nothing in terms of special effects; none of them are really important. You might run emissive is silent running enemies worries you.

Pulse is the only one that runs rapid fire.

Long range is really good for any laser though, as damage drop off starts at 500m, and at 1k it's already doing the same or more damage than most other mods.

Took the new config out last night and giggled the whole time. I call her 'The Flying Shotgun'. :)

Huge G5 efficient beam and four G5 double shot frag cannons. What a hoot. No special effects needed as I'm strictly solo and besides I can kill anything with this thing. I use her speed and maneuverability to stay close and blast away. It doesn't take long for NPCs to go boom. :D

For you spreadsheet flyers her DPS is 935. Whatever that means.

I've been playing ED for almost a month now (since the Christmas sale), and I'm now flying an FDL. I love the hell out of it, even with no engineering yet. At first I played it safe with the pulses and huge multicannon, but after reading that people were putting plasma and rails on it in PVP, I pushed myself to give that a try.

I'm currently using huge plasma, 2 rails, and two gimbaled pulses. It's my first time using plasma, and I have to say my piloting skills are improving a lot faster since adopting the huge risk/reward PA. It forces me to play more aggressively, and the feeling of landing a plasma shot is exhilarating. I'm not a great pilot yet--still working on FA off skills in solo--but my FDL experience has been a real boon for me.
