Fer-de-Lance & Vulture Specs

Much simpler, I'm just talking about actual combat ability. ;)

The Vulture is an absolute beast that will render the Asp as a combat ship completely worthless. I like the idea of hybrid ships but the way the game works it's no bonus. It's fine to be a 1st class fighter and zero class trader (viper), or zero class fighter and first class trader (T6) because there is no benefit to being a 2nd class fighter and 2nd class trader. You can just sell the ship and buy a 1st class fighter or 1st class trader at any time.

*cough*piracy*cough*

So is the Vulture an exploration style ship? Or a trading/mining style ship. Im assuming with its size and two hard points its not suited fro combat.

You assume wrong, it's immense nimbleness makes it pretty damn formidable. Sent a player FDL scurrying for safety earlier today, 2x large hardpoints close together are not to be underestimated

It's actually supposed to be a dedicated heavy fighter. You would be surprised by how fast 2 large hard-points can melt ships. And the hard-points are not everything. It is supposed to be able to turn on a dime. Manuverability will allow you to keep behind those pesky Anacondas and Pythons, much easier than it already is.

Haha, I guess this speaks volumes about the state of piracy. :p

I didn't even consider it. :( I suppose the new smuggling stuff might help a bit though, lower fines etc.

I was actually chatting with a buddy of mine about the potential for piracy with this ship. Never tried it, but on paper it works. It can easily fry a trader trying to escape, it has a decent amount of cargo space (8 by default) and get behind the resisting Type 9's with lasers and dumb-fires.

it's the opposite, balance is key, a ship that is 2nd in trade/fight i will choose it all the time compared to a 1st fighter that can't trade, or a 1st trader that can't fight

that's exactly why some ships are UBBER strong compared to others, because they can do everything. (see my signature)

Thanks for posting these guys. At least now I know I won't be missing out on anything exciting haha. Onwards to the galactic core regions, good ol' Asp pal!

Wow the Vulture is ugly... doesn't make me look forward to getting one... how good is the FDL as a dedicated fighter?

She's awesome in every aspect except the jump range. And if you want the best weapons you won't be able to equip a shield cell, but that doesn't matter, because of that sheer firepower this beauty has. With C4 plasma accelerator, 2xC2 Beams and 2x C2 cannons, it can annihilate an Expert Dropship in 15s flat. ;) (without targetting subsystems - you can save this for Anacondas)

O.O Seriously?
Is the impossibility of equipping a SCB really a reason to be disappointed? Isn't it rather a reason to learn to fight?
Shield cells are (imho, anyway) for ships that can't avoid enemy fire (traders and large warships).
But Ferdie is the best that would come out of breeding Asp and Clipper. She turns on dime AND goes 300m/s (boosts 400). She can outturn almost anything, run from anything and annihilate everything in a matter of seconds.

Python - Shields down in three shots, powerplant destroyed in another 10s
Anaconda - Shields down in four shots, powerplant destroyed in 15s (20, if cannons need to rearm)

To lose shields is almost impossible!

(Sorry if it came out too harsh, I'm in love, atm... :D And I didn't try PvP, yet. That COULD be a problem. Then again, whole PvP is about stripping shields quickly and then shoot chickens ;))

That Vulture is the sexiest looking ride in the game. That is one impressive bit of design...nothing cookie cutter there. Very nicely done FD!

"learn to fight" - what do you know about my fighting skills? If two roughly equally skilled pilots meet and one has SCB and the other one don't, the first one will win most of the fights (one of the reasons of whining from non-SCB users how "op" they are.) Imho they're a must on every offensive ship.
As you said: it's about stripping the shields quickly - hence the need for SCB. If you get swarmed (strong signals, combat zones) - you need SCB, even against AI.

I don't mind others using SCBs. I just don't like they're addictive and make You lazy.
Eventually you'll start disliking ships that can't equip them. They don't deserve it. :)
And why are you deleting your posts? :/ I'm sorry if I offended you. I'm just defending my new dream ship. :)

Oh, btw, if You have C4 plasma, it doesn't matter whether the other ship has shield cells. :D

That's correct, I dislike ships that can't use them and will not fly them. I guess that's personal preference. On the other hand it seems somewhat illogical to me. If I would be a ship engineer, why would I give combat ship not enough energy to fit every combat related upgrade?

I deleted posts because I wanted to make a thread about my concerns, decided against it and now cannot restore the posts ^^
