Fer-de-Lance & Vulture Specs

So FD, could we please have the real prices for these ships? I dont think its an unresonable request.

300+ posts on this thread alone (countless others) in less than 24 hours. All other specs known. Yeah, I don't see what possible advantage keeping the prices secret affords at this point.

Possible FD wants to get some ingame data, when beta testers are using it, to check how it performs, and adjust the price. So they won't tell now, because it may not be known exactly now.

Yup. I'm sure the specs, and hence price, are subject to change pending the feedback the devs get during this week.

Maybe. But they probably have a good idea of where they want it to fit on the ship pricing curve... That speculation around here differs almost by an order of magnitude in some cases (e.g., 2m v 20m for a Vulture)

In any case, we cannot evaluate the value proposition without knowing the cost. I hope we get the figure while in beta. The point of the beta is to get feedback before stuff goes into production...

the canopy of both is a total turn off, like most other ships too. i really don't understand the design idea behind these bars in the center view of the player...

Yeah, the Eagle is still fun to fly, but has become less and less fun to bring into a fight with all the things goings on:

- More big, powerful, tough ships.
- Pitiful bounties on anything the Eagle is at least decent at fighting (i.e. Sidewinder, Hauler, Adder, and other Eagles).
- A flying death trap in conflict zones.
- With the 1.1 AI changes, we are back where many an NPC simply jumps away before an Eagle can kill them. A Cobra or a Viper still can simply decide "nope" and fly away from an Eagle, whereas an Eagle cannot fly away from neither.
- It won't even be able to fly away from the bigger Vulture.
- Really, with the Vulture in the game, the Eagle is 100% useless, as the Vulture is a straight upgrade with no compromise (because the Eagle consists basically only of compromises atm).

Agreed. Just saying: "you get what you pay for" I wouldn't mind a more expensive larger Eagle with maybe one medium hardpoint and two or three small ones and more speed that costs 250k instead of 45k

Wow the Vulture is ugly... doesn't make me look forward to getting one... how good is the FDL as a dedicated fighter?
That Vulture is the sexiest looking ride in the game. That is one impressive bit of design...nothing cookie cutter there. Very nicely done FD!

I really like how the looks of the Vulture polarises :) Either people find it cool or "would never like to be seen in one dead or alive". The FDL has a very slick design that is easy on the eyes but a bit boring if you ask me.
I agree that the looks of the Vulture is special and certainly no beauty, but with those two large hardpoints it looks mean and foreboding. I think that's pretty cool and thus I would like to have one. :D

Fer-de-Lance is pretty nice. It can hit pretty hard too, I made some tries on the beta server.

I'd pay anything for an Eagle as it currently is but with 2x medium hardpoints only. That would be perfect for my tastes. Vulture far more effective, but slightly less fun.

Thanks for the video.
From the front and above it looks like a giant sports shoe IMHO. That's about what I expected the "Heart of Gold" from "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" to look like :)

OK, had a bit of a test fight tonight - my Vulture against a CMDR in a FDL. I lost, but I knew that was going to happen - still getting the hang of fixed-mount weapons. Some things of note...

- The shields stand up very well to a FDL's beam lasers. Head-on, I lasted quite a while.
- I'm not very good with fixies. I had one C3 fixed beam and one B3 (I think) plasma accelerator.
- After taking out his first shield ring, a single direct hit from a plasma accelerator took out the rest of his shields and took his hull down to about 40%. This is clearly the way forward if you want to finish a fight with a FDL quickly.
- It's exceptionally easy to get close enough to hit pretty much anything with a plasma ball in the Vulture.
- I get too distracted by looking at my opponent's ship status when fighting something that can stand up to more than one strafing run.
- Playing with fixed-mount weapons when you have no canopy (and thus no HUD) doesn't make the job any easier.

So the canopy is actually an issue? Coming from a Viper, whenever my shields go down I run like hell until my shields recharge... yes I do realize that the Vulture is slow, but you should still be able to boost away from most opponents?

How did I miss this thread? Here's a screenie and two videos of the FdL (with poor camera handling on my part). I like the FdL, it's a lot of fun with C4 PA and 4 C2 BL.

Yep, but it didn't blow until I got down to about 60% hull. They're going to be fixing it soon, I think - reading between the lines, sometime between now and the release. From what they've said, it'll be a lot tougher.

That was kind of the point of the experiment - I wasn't expecting to even get his shields down. Mostly testing the plasma accelerator and seeing if the canopy was still bugged.

Of course, nothing I'd gone up against up to that point (NPCs of every stripe) had even managed to get my first shield ring down, so even if it was still an issue there'd be nothing to worry about unless you're up against real humans.
