Finally, sensible suggestions on Crime and Punishment!

Someone has to go farm the bounties though and you could only do it once before having to start grinding the bounties again. It's rinse and repeat with a carrier until you have billions transferred.

It would only take 20 minutes at level 10 to get 100 mill especially killing security ships.

You also don't lose noterioty when you die.

It would still be alot quicker than trading

Yes, exactly, whoever farmed the bounty now has a notoriety of 10 while the trader has notoriety 0. The bounty farmer also paid 140 million due to the rebuy.

Also, 100t of LTDs, bought for 20,000 per ton from a carrier, then sold back to the carrier at 2 million per ton is 198 million. It's a slower start as you build up to having a T-6 to be able to buy the whole 100t I'll grant you, but it's still more effective in the long run.

Especially since the same 100t of LTDs could be used every time.

That maybe be so but I'm just pointing out the flaws in the OP post.

Im guessing you haven't took in the time to mine for that.

The possibility of false bounties is a given, as stated in the OP. As I said earlier in thread, it only has to be more painful than mining to make it not worthwhile to exploit. The post itself aims to limit this to ~1bn cr per year using constraints around measurable player association. If you look.

For something like this to work without being a credit farm there would need to be a reasonable account limit per individual (the game has been as low as $5 in the past and is currently free) and a limit on how often those accounts could be reset.

Of course, since credits don't matter no one is actually going to bother, just as no one who knows better is going to be incentivized to go CMDR bounty hunting just for credits.

So yeah, totally useless as a C&P improvement, and will be as long as:

1. The game makes it nigh impossible to inflict consequences on unwilling targets.
2. The consequences that can be inflicted consist largely of fiat funny money conjured from the aether.

Well people already do bounty hunt players. The aim here is to turn it from a punished hobby towards a sustainable profession that covers more than expenses. If the yield of criminal kills is so low that no matter what the bounty, it'll never be viable, then you have a point.

Also, what fraction of murderous players would actually do this? I have no sense of what the answer is. But given money is so straightforward to come by if you really want it, would you bother? Would it take the same amount of time to mine 100mil?
Lots... Also, bounties are a powerful tool in BGS warfare. So yeah, there are lots of player playing this awesome game of rigging up bounties and murdering each other in wings in order to earn inf fast.

Make it so its not credits as a reward for destroying a gankers ship and you remove the exploit incentive.
Make it an Elite rank (Security Elite or something) and make the rank Zero itself for 3 months, if you EVER gain notoriety greater than 1.

Players could gain Sec Rank via escape actions, scanning actions and enforcement.
For those who destroy clean players ships etc, they could have an Inverse rank, It starts at Elite for everyone but goes down the more clean you kill. call it Clean License Rank. (or something)
And change the ranks names to be increasingly attractive names for the Ganker minded players. for example :- Notorious, Infamous, Despicable, Deplorable, etc etc.

Thinking about it a single rank system with everyone starting in the middle would be simpler to create. Up rank names for goodies, Down Rank names for baddies.

That is a good point. I'd be all for capping that hard. Which should be easy to do, but it does underline that it is easy to leave unforeseen loopholes when you focus on one angle.

It's an interesting angle. Only thing I don't like about this is the implicit virtue-signalling in that scheme :). I'd rather people had either a more mercenary, or a more internally-driven reason (with money as a bonus/support) to engage with notorious CMDRs in PvP. There are already "virtuous lawfuls" whose playstyle revolves around anti-ganking etc. I'm for a more privateer-minded opposition, or getting more gankers to spend time as reverse-gankers.

I think if you end up at the detention facility (which I think has to happen if someone claims the bounty - not an expert here) then you do lose the notoriety right?

Nope you just have to pay for the bounty if they didn't claim upto 2mill otherwise you have to pay rebuy plus full bounty

Then you need to be able to have gameplay around this for example you get twice as much from selling stuff to black markets and so forth.

The other issue is where do pirates sit? Genuine pirates don't kill people and only have fines
