Newcomer / Intro Finding a USS

Well particularly high grade... but lately, just in gneneral. I remember these things popping up just about everywhere no matter where you were or what you are doing but nowadays i cant seem to find any whatsoever? Sometimes i will get like one or two in a system or something like that but then i wont find anymore after that. Am i doing something wrong? Im in the shipping lanes and spheres of influences, trying higher populated systems but i'm kinda getting the same results, maybe a couple of signals or none at all.

I have heard others saying the same and that they gotten rarer after the latest updates,
meanwhile I feel that I am getting more and better mats from general salvage and missions, so they might have done a rebalance.
Missions is my go-to for high grade mats now, at some places it can be very easy to stack up a bunch of easy courier missions for a good chunk of materials,
However I am not sure how viable that is without having elite/allied access.

I have taken to all types of missions from Jameson Memorial for grade 5 materials and rare commodities required for unlocks, focusing heavily on assassination in horizons, bulk transport, pirates massacre and what not. And of course zooming in on high grade signals. You can log out to log in screen and return and those high grade signals will continue to be there till the timer runs out.

for the pirates massacre, the material rewards seems to never bite too hard into the credits. Trading down in the same row is the way to go.

When the HGEs (High Grade Emissions) in a system are all gone, it's time to jump to another system. Is this new? I don't know. However, as of Yesterday, the most important factor for the spawn rate of HGEs was and still is system security. For HGEs, you want to visit high security systems. In medium security systems, HGEs are rare and in low security systems they are almost non-existent. The impact of population size is comparably small. You would probably get a lot less with a very low population of e.g. 2000, but there doesn't seem to be any difference between millions and billions. I also seem to get more HGEs in distributed systems with stations at a second star, but that's not particularly helpful if they spawn 100.000 Ls away.

you could try scanning the Nav beacon - that usually brings up lots for me? You may have already done that ofc

This is new to me and i never thought to check it. Also it seems there is a set amount that spawn for that system, so its a process of jumping systems to try and find the types of signals you are looking for, it seems.
Anyway thanks for helping clarify, the process is much more clear to me now.

there should be no difference when using the discovery scanner and FSS I think. Nav-beacons are just a remnant from the days before ED:beyond when discovery scanners was a optional module. beside for some missions I don' think they have got any new function.

Whether you find HGEs or not depends on the state of the system. If the BGS changes the state, they disappear until the state changes to a favourable one again, otherwise you have to look in another high population system for them in say boom state.
