Finding star that I see from cocpit

I see a group of white stars from my ship. I tried to locate them on the map by orienting with distant nebulas and other objects that I see too but no luck. Is there any other way? Thx O7

Could be planet(s) with moon(s) in the current system too.
Easy to test, just enter FSS and see if they're there too. Or fly towards, but not straight at them, see if they seem to move against the background.

Sometimes it's really a group of stars, sometimes there are stars that are pretty far away from each other and look like a group from a certain angle. In most cases a single 30-40 Ly jump tells the difference.

However, I'd love the ability to pick a star from the ship's cabin.

It is very dark, but here it is: I am currently in OOCHOST ON-H B43-0 system. My ship is in the middle of the picture. For reference, on the righ side galactic center, on left side Andromeda galaxy (small violet circle). Middle up the white are the stars I am looking for.

Pardon my memory, but search for "S 171" or maybe "S 71" in the galaxy map, target the 1st star it finds, then see if that's in the cluster you're looking at.
There are several black holes in that nebula/cluster. I forget the NGC designation, but it's not too far from the Heart & Soul Nebulae.
A word of warning: It's getting close to the rim, so the stars on the way are few and far between. You may not be able to plot a route directly there, but if you plot shorter routes, you'll get there with even a moderate jump range).

Click on a star on the canopy hud to select it in the galaxy map.

That would be a dream come true.
not working, I guess the starts are further then what could be seen on canopy

oh my, your tip seems to be correct, thanks a lot O7

Have they moved it then? ;)

NGC 7822 is by no means hard to reach or even remotely near the rim, it is less than 3Kly from the bubble - I think you are confusing its location with somewhere else.

Back to the original question, it would be nice to target stars in cockpit. Since we can't, what I do is select different systems from the galmap and switch back to the cockpit to see if it's the direction i want to go. If it is, I make the jump and use that line in the galmap to select the next jump and the next all the while orienting myself in the cockpit towards the thing that caught my interest.
