TBH it appears they've just turned on a flag... ie: Anyone going to the areas now can see them... Yesterday nothing... Today there they are...

Did you just hyperspace around the Pleiades and encounter one? Or did you need to go to specific system(s)?

It happened yesterday Neil.

Oh yeah, you've blocked me for pointing out your inaccuracies. Server side ticks and updates always happen on a Thursday.

How about their mode of travel interferes with the FSD? No intention but accidental. For all we know they are pulled out their hyperspace at the same time.

Just another possibility.

I read it as intentional, non-hostile but also not friendly. Aggressively curious.

Our tech is better! We just can't read their ancient crap wakes, just give it time.

There seemed to be some pre-bending, in the space aroud the ship before it's jump, from what I saw.
Mega-Joules = quite a few?

I'd be remarkably shocked if anything "terrifying" comes of all this...

I personally didn't encounter them yet. I'm still at work, only reading forums...

But I will take a brake from mining Praseodymium and go and have a quick look tonight. Judging from the recent reports it's not that rare to get an encounter...

Well aside from patting my head with one hand rubbing my tummy singing aye macarena and doing some strange cultural dance. i have for the past 1.5 hours doing well over 2k LY around the pleiades sector while hauling Unknown artifacts not encountered any thargoid or otherwise hyperdictions, has anyone seen thargoids since server issues? did they really turn this feature off or is it still occurring for commanders?

It could be or it could be not.

As for aggressively curious, I'll agree with the curious but not aggressive.

How about our drives interfere and their scanners cause our ships damage but not intentionally. That might not be a ship, that might be the alien with space and hyperspace it's normal living environment. It may not recognise us as living.

May different possibilities (I read Sci-Fi too much).

But why a FLOWER?? Aliens are supposed to be mean no? unless these aliens have ported from the 60s. Very nice though and exciting. Hope it is true and more content comes on this game so far i have been having a blast and only been playing for 3 months or so, kicking myself for not picking this game up sooner and wasting my time with 5 years of WoW. :(

They're bees.
Mmmmm.... Honey. :p

Anyone know what happened to the anaconda?
It seemed awful nice of those FlowerBees pushing the Corvette away from danger while it was being attacked. Someone should offer them a Friendship Drive Charge.

Huh? They turned on a flag last night, and yesterday prior to that you wouldn't encounter them, and today you would? Confused!? You're seemingly picking on minor details so you can have a needless/pointless strop for some needless/pointless agenda?

My guess is that these aliens aren't actually thargoids. Wouldn't they just straight up destroy any ship they find? The fact that these CMDRS are pulled out of witchspace seems real similar to what thargoids would do, but then I still think that if they were then we'd just meet instant death. My guess is that these aliens may end up helping us if thargoids do appear.

Congratulations for the Cmdr. for the First Encounter!
By the way I share the suspicion these are not the Thargoids, but could be another alien species perhaps The Guardians?
So can someone confirm you actually do not need an UA to experience such encounter?

The reason; in the original game you could initiate the break of a hyper space jump and drop into the hyper space - or actually stay in the hyper space with a swarm of Thargoid ships; they were shooting down your shield to minimum, until one shot would have destroyed you without you even blinking in your cockpit. Sometimes they let you to hang around with them in hyper space, but most of the time they just destroyed you. Even if you were allowed to stay with them they did not allow your shield to recharge - just shoot you randomly to keep it on low energy. At least this is what I recall from C64 encounters.

Now here, you seemed to be dragged out of hyper space jump but you do not actually stay in the hyper space - as I remember Thargoids were doing it in the original game; kept you in the hyper space. Also based on the video the flower look like alien creature (I don't want to say ship, I rather think it is a living creature) looks like more it wants to help / look for something rather than causing any trouble. Any thoughts?

I think it says something that the BBC can report on this before it's on the Galnet and frontier knew it was going to happen....

It happened at gone 23:00 last night. The news wires run all night, I expect the Frontier team had gone home for the night ;)

the encounters seems RNG based I fly around a hour nothing happens or they are not able to mass lock a Cutter

Oooo that opens frightening possibilities... maybe they see the ships as the living entities and the humans as parasites ;)

confirmed, no UA needed. Just got caught in the Pleiades Sector. Was the best moment in Elite yet. Stunning. Video uploading, will need a couple of minutes.

Yeah they really missed the boat on that - they could have done a Livestream of "Galnet TV News" - that would have been brilliant.

They're bees

Here's one; As a beekeeper myself, some while back while discussing alien AI, I definitely made Frontier aware that there are softwares available for modelling swarm (super-organism) behaviour. A word of warning comes with this though, again speaking as a beekeeper, the 'first sting is the cheapest' .. once you've had one, the whole damn colony is attracted by the pheromones released, and programmed instinctively to sting the same place. Moral of the story? (If they DO open fire) .. "Run, Forrest"

Yeah but they set this up. You would have thought that they would have a galnet article primed ready to go. It's not like its a rare happening that could have been found sometime in the next 6 months,.
