Newcomer / Intro first day in space experience

You have to be a real moron to find someone in a small ship and noobie and waste them down from a huge ass expensive ship. Noobs don't have the money for more than a few rebuys. And you're not helping them move to bigger ships by killing them.

Cowards.

To read the forums, such CMDRs are "educators", teaching valuable lessons to the noobs.

To fly in open - you consent to being destroyed by others for their entertainment in an unequal fight.
Tto be aware of the threats and prepare for them.
To build ships that can survive an attack.
To learn and practice the skills needed to survive and escape.
To improve new CMDR familiarity with the rebuy screen.
To "git gud".

My mantra to new CMDRs is "solo all the way!"

after being back a month i flew my type 9 heavy into the ground bounced snagged on a settlment something ships so damn big i didnt even find out what i hit, the final snagging got me blown up & sent to space jail =(
sad thing is i had just executed a beautiful landing on the very same planet not ten minutes before that as i landed at the wrong place =D cargo delivery, took off almost made orbit 180 n back down we go, but now im in a rush to log so this seeing as it was from a close range 180 decent i was right on top of the second settlement after the glide i realised i was dropping like a brick no matter what i did i pulled up & nearly made it

i can understand if the base AI didnt know if i was loitering, attacking it trying to get it on with it, best just to blast & ask questions later

Here's the standard beginner advice:

  • Never fly without rebuy! (everybody knows but it can't be said often enough.
  • The compass showing where your target is, points to your landing pad after asking docking permission.
  • Consider toggling off the "deploy weapons on fire" option in the keybindings, so you can't deploy them accidentally and wonder why you can't jump, for example.
  • Your shield is about 25% stronger when you put 4 pips on SYS, additional to a better recharge rate.
  • If you got very good thrusters and you have trouble manoeuvreing, consider removing pips from ENG which will make the ship less agile, but also less twitchy if you need precision.
  • You boost into the direction your thrusters are firing at the moment you boost. Means you can boost to the side, up and down as well.
  • Even when not (yet) familiar with flying without flight assist, you can use the FA-off button for making the space equivalent of hand-brake turns. Perfekt for aligning with the slot when arriving at the side of a station, and for dodging an attacker (toggle off, turn ship 90°, boost, toggle on.)

Welcome, and see you in the Black! o7
left ALT is a nice one for FA, or space if you reassign thruster keys to WASD & R/F, as for 'toggling off the "deploy weapons on fire" option in the keybindings' thanks for reminding me i completely forgot, so now i can use all scanner types without having to open the hard points?
