First exploration

Little Chick flight report

I'm now 2,480.76ly from start point
Just a small jump ahead tonight, but the weekend is awaiting
Discovered a lot of new systems and planets but none of note.

I'd love to find something special so I will continue to scan and explore the systems

Well, the GEO POIs are an easy way to get a bunch of mats present on that particular body.
I'll have a bimble round in the buggy tomorrow before leaving 🙂

What does this mean on FSS ?

You will see geological and biological features there. Further down you will see "locations", you will see human, thargoid and guardian sites. These will not show up in the FSS if they are on a planet until you scan with the FSS, only space based phenomena will be revealed by the initial honk. NSP, stars, moons, planets, asteroid fields and stations (including alien space stations). Your stars, moons and planets will show up as bodies, others will show up as signals that you will need to resolve in the FSS, but no surface features will be revealed until you run the FSS over a body. (note this often includes stuff in close orbit around planet, like combat zones)

So when scanning bodies with the FSS always wait until that "locations" line comes up with info "none" or other relevant info otherwise you risk missing important finds. You only need to do this for landables so obvious non-landable don't bother waiting, you can often tell non-obvious landables because there is a noticable hesitation when the FSS is bringing up the initial body image.

Have fun.

There are pilots who believe that if you run your ship on empty... you get a longer jump range as fuels is heavy. I have nevre had the nerve to try that intentionally. There are times where I forget to look at the gauge and find my self with a message that says I have inadequate fuel to make the jump. Decisions, decisions.. go back to the star and scoop or find a star within 1 light year I can jump to(scoopable of course) or in extremis... call the fuel rats.

How far you can jump is a function of your FSD's properties and your ship's mass, including the fuel. So yes, you can jump further with less fuel and the absolute furthest you can jump is when the amount of fuel you have is the maximum amount of fuel your FSD can use for one jump.

However... The route plotter assumes you'll always have full tanks so it won't plot jumps longer than that when you only have half a tank, running on minimal fuel is most useful when you're trying to manually plot through the sparsest areas.

Thank you for that simple explanation. It makes things a lot easier for a noobie like me

Bios are good for Polonium and Yttrium which are very important for the 100% Range booster. I don't know which Materials Geos provide, but any one of these sites is Much more efficient than shooting rocks for haresting its particular substance.

So if I go to a geo site on planet, will I need mining equipment to collect the mats ?

Having a bimble before leaving and found some mats I've not got before and also this little beauty

Good evening Cmdrs
On my travels towards Lagoon

Is there a specific type of planets the Guardian sites would be on ?

When I use FSS would they come up as a signal ?

Quite likely you will not find out new Guardian site. Chances are pretty low. I do not know how many sites there are, but on other hand there are 400 billion star systems, huge majority of them NOT having Guardian sites.

Look for the highest grade mats in the planet list, this is what you will get a lot of, so Polonium if you need that, Germanium if you need that. If it doesn't appear on the list of mats in the system map you won't find it in geo or bio sites. I believe bio's follow the same rules as geo's but bio's are more spread out and there are usually more of them, the plants need room to grow I guess.

I haven;t read the whole thread but read this as a guide

Hooe you're all not bored yet

I was getting slightly bored, but this image got me interested again... ;)

Truly weird place... Are those planets colliding or what?
