Well, actually the plan is to get some SRVs into an asteroid field tomorrow, perhaps even land on an asteroid. We'll see if that dual repeater can shoot some rocks!Whatever will they come up with next?

Yes, but that's only because you have not engineered it properly. With the Guardian SRV booster, you should be able to achieve 25 easily.

Instancing was actually a challenge. Relog or SC (for the support ships) was necessary to get the fleet carrier into the same instance as the SRV.
I can't wait for all those shenanigans. There will be people walking around in space and the coriolis stations and stuff.
I'm assuming that the ability to "request docking access" mentioned in the OP is something of an unintended (by Frontier) anomaly but that it wasn't actually possible to "board" the fleet carrier in any meaningful way. Indeed, someone here mentioned timing it so a landing platform was down as you arrived so the SRV could drift inside but to the best of my knowledge (I've tried at surface bases) there's an invisible barrier which prevents an SRV from actually getting inside the docking bay.
I guess we can count it as docked with the effort going into it. For what the game cannot handle we make up and do.
I think we need another post: First SRV to land on an asteroid... same team performed this stunt, which was actually more difficult than getting the SRV to a carrier...
That was us. We never thought of doing this with a fleet carrier as well. Considering the length of time it took for getting an SRV into a station, I certainly hope nobody in our squadron suggests duplicating this <grin>
