Some people are happy with how ED is being developed.
I however believe, the way FD has been managed and developed ED up to this point in its life as a failure of having a clear direction of resources and management.
Im not angry, I actually love the game. I just cant understand some of the design decisions and stuff done on the development side.
I think defending FD by citing their past actions or existing track record, in the end bears no importance to how the future will unfold.

I guess you must have a very personal and anecdotal definition of "failure", but hey, be my guest. Just try to remember that "not taking decisions I would personally like" is not necesarily the same as "failure". Again, unless you have a very personal and specific definition you would like to shoehorn here.

Also, often past track record performance is the best predictor of future performance. So citing past delivery and performance is precisely the point.

Apologies if it was interpreted that way, that was not the intent.
Lets hope that since the fruits of the flash topics seen and unseen are beginning to appear, we will see a juicy Powerplay plum glistening in the sunshine just nice.
It will indeed be interesting to see which subset of the proposals contained in Sandro's first Flash Topic on Powerplay make it into the game.

By the way is it just me dreaming or there was a focused feedback on carriers showing the different types (exploration, trading etc) etc at some point during 2018? Havent been able to find it so maybe just me dreaming.

Most of those threads seem to have disappeared in the purge though.

From memory the idea that there would be specific roles for Fleet Carriers was introduced by a player - I seem to remember that there was a desire to fix Carrier roles by some.

I think there has been lots of failures in some of the dev choices, off the top of my head - beigefication, CQC, multicrew, fleetcarriers etc.
Im not gonna sit here and list all the failures, I dont need or have to.
In fact if this leak is true, there is another failure.

Dreaming sadly. Carriers were briefly mentioned when the squadron fff launched as a "we'll talk about that later", and then they cancelled 'later'. There was a lot of Cmdr theorycrafting though.

Yeah we didn't get a lot of information about them but Adam said that they could be upgraded and that those modifications would visually appear on the FC and I suppose it won't be only ship kit.

Anyone know when FDev panel takes place at Lavecon ?
 
In the game there is only really two uses for squadrons, BGS and Powerplay.
That is really very short sighted and patently false. Not all co-operative gameplay is about either the BGS or Powerplay.

Squadrons allow explorers, traders, miners to exchange information to at least some degree. That is not the beginning and end of it though.

Depending on services available from carriers, there could be Squadrons that place them at suitable points on an exploration route, say DW3 (if and when it goes ahead) - just join the Squadron that owns the next Carrier waypoint and use it on arrival - repair / refuel, if possible, move on and leave the Squadron.

.... and if Squadrons can own more than one carrier, the join / leave requirement may not be necessary.

And how does that require a giant floating base with carriers (I apologise since I'm mixing my metaphors again)? This presumes that carriers offer basic refuel / repair / rearm. LR carriers for exploration are a simple short cut, traders why, since I assume they won't have markets (due to BGS limitations, unless thats overcome plus trading is in habitable space within the bubble) and mining (a whole carrier for restocking limpets?). Some parts of these might go to upkeep (i.e. mine mat x for refuel to jump) but what else bar power projection is really making use of them?

I'll wait for the full capabilities before saying more.

A lot would depend on various factors, if FD introduced a Squadron alliance/guest mechanic then there is the potential for squadrons to share a single carrier. Unless FD lift their initial proclamation that Fleet Carriers would be a limited resource (c/f ESO Guild Traders) then it would make sense for them to not allow squadrons to limit docking/facility-use rights.

Powerplay and BGS gameplay are not the only activities that would benefit from carriers.

Trading/Mining squadrons could use their carriers as mobile repair/refuel/rearm facilities. Explorers could use them as mobile base camps for exploring regions. It is worth keeping in mind that there are limits to what can be self-repaired in the field and even then a mobile base could allow explorers/miners to better engage in deep space operations. Traders could have them as central operating bases that defensive/escort combat pilots could operate from and relocate based on demand of the squadron.

As pointed out by @Robert Maynard there are legitimate possibilities beyond the combat focused kitsch that some seem to think Squadron Carriers should be focused around.

If that were the case then the carriers should not be limited resources... period.

I think it is more likely that if Fleet Carriers are delivered and they are the limited resource that FD indicated they would be in the most recent Fleet Carrier discussions then it is likely that:
  1. Not every squadron will be able to have a fleet carrier
  2. Fleet carrier facility usage will (or should) not be restricted to squadron members
  3. Only those sanctioned by the squadron leader will be able to move/modify the carriers

Even with my extremely limited knowledge of how to make a video, which is close to zero; I could make one as poorly as this one. It doesn't show anything but a slightly out of focus at the start fly by of an unnamed mega ship and then the ED logo.
