Distant Worlds II Event Fleet Mechanics

…We are not expecting any alien trouble on our expedition, however, nobody ever expects it…so it's totally your call if you want to pack Decons and have that option should we all get surprised!

Edit:
I've been informed that some galactic phenomena etc can cause caustic damage. Therefore any mechanics that do want to fit a decontamination limpet instead of or alongside a repair limpet controller feel free. It's probably not going to be common but having a handful of ships with the capability will be useful.
That settles it - 3A repair out, 3E decon in. New caustic phenomena was more what I was concerned about than patch jobs under fire.

In the Fuel Rats we’ve become convinced that repair jobs are never time-critical, so having to use more limpets to repair the same ammount (by using decon vs. repair) is only going to affect us by forcing us to ask Logistics/Materials for more limpets. I’m willing to live with that.

On a similar note of possible risks, with such a large number of commanders joining and the number of permutations by which things can go wrong - I think the Fuel Rats and Fleet mechanics are going to be busy.

A lot of first time outside the bubble explorers (me included) and the easy credits recently means that quite a few commanders will be driving big complicated ships for the first time and on their first big expedition. I was worried at first that it's the small ships with short jump ranges we had to worry about but now I'm not so sure.

Morning all, apologies for the potentially stupid question but does anyone know how you change roles on the Official DW2 roster? I signed up ages ago and because of the ship I was taking I didn't have any spare capacity, however as I now do I'm bringing repair limpets and it would be awesome to be part of the mechanics group.

Also is there a mechanics discord yet or are we just restricted to here at the moment?

Finally haha has anyone heard of the Hull Seals? There was a post on reddit today and I wondered if they were part of this group? https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/ad0b5i/the_actual_official_patch_of_the_hull_seals/

Hi,

Get on the Fleetcomm Discord server, thats where everything is happening! https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...focused-Private-(pc)-Group?highlight=fleetcom
There's details on there about how to contact the Roster organiser Qohen about changing roster details.

Yes we have a Mechanics channel in the Discord that's already been lively with people joining.
And yes, the Hull Seals is an affectionate nickname the people already in the Discord Mechanics channel have come up with. There was a discussion about "Sealing up Hulls" and it developed from there. Short answer: "Fleet Mechanics" is the official name and Hull Seals is the nickname, mainly because so many documents/files/bots/roster/images etc have Mechanics on and the admin tasks to change them all is a bit daunting. Also to try and limit confusion. :)

Finally: Welcome, good to have you with us!

Thanks very much for the info and the quick response!

Ah ok, with it now that makes more sense. God I can only imagine the task of having to go through everything and rename it all ha!

Thanks, it's good to be with you guys. DW1 was the best time I've had in Elite and I'm looking forward to this one even more so. I was gonna fly with IW but we've been stood down from having an official presence until people want escorts on the return so I needed another job, and one of my mates recommended you guys.

Great idea, I'll probably be there on Saturday.

Sorry if it's in an older post but I'd like to join the Hull Seals. I'm on PS4 and registered as an Explorer/Mechanic. I have repair and fuel limpets on board.

Is there a seperate discord channel? I'm on FleetCom HQ but can't see anything there.

Hi, It's one discord. There's a #DW2-Fleet-Mechanics channel on the Fleetcomm HQ under DW2 Departments. Be sure to assign yourself to the expedition and your roles using the bot to get access to the DW2 channels on the discord.

If you have further issues drop someone a message or Ping me in the Discord, hopefully we can help.

Updated SOP created that's 5000% better than the old one. All information is now in 2 files:

SOP: https://www.dropbox.com/s/am5psec6u041onn/Fleet Mechanics SOP.pdf?dl=0

Additional Information: https://www.dropbox.com/s/r0fta98g2i3ylps/Fleet Mechanics Additional Information.pdf?dl=0

These will be updated as feedback comes in. As always if the format (Dropbox / PDF) is a problem please reach out, I'm still a bit unsure what works best for file uploads/sharing.

Also Fleet Mechanics Art-work Repository added:
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...eals-Artwork-Repository?p=7330427#post7330427

Which I'm sure will grow with time as our artists are epic!

Finally the OP of this thread should be updated tomorrow or Friday with these links/documents etc to be more than the front-page advert that it currently is. Standby for that :)

Already bringing a small repair limpet controller and listed my secondary role as mechanic on the DW2 form.

So there was a post a few pages back about being unable to share / trade materials. What about Limpets (which are cargo)? I'll be taking a T-10 in mining config for the CG, and I was wondering if there was any point keeping the large cargo bay and transporting limpets for you guys for the rest of the trip. That said I'm not even sure how many limpets you need for a typical repair.

Would this be useful? Or should I just swap my cargo bay for a bigger fuel scoop after CG2?

I don't think so. For repairs, it depends on the ship, the amount of damage and the size of the repair limptet controller. In my limited experience you usually don't need more than 3 or 4 limpets and those I synthesize when needed and leave my cargo racks empty otherwise. With 300 iron and 300 nickel you can synth 120 limpets.
For mining, it is expected that we'll be able to buy limpets from whatever station we'll be selling the ores at.

Visit the Seals at the Discord #dw2-fleet-mechanics and pop the question. I can't speak for my fellow Seals so it's better to get a direct reaction :) Our ships vary widely so it's possible there is a demand.
