Hi Ed, I just wanted to say that there are "other developers", won't mention any names, out there who could learn alot from you guys. Thank you for the schedule you posted and all the hard work you and all the folks at FD put into the game. :)
 
If anyone sees any gameplay mentioned in the Squadron discussion that seems to in anyway be a step forwards please PLEASE let me know..

So far all I've seen mentioned is for it being used to organise Bounty Hunting or going to CGs. So we have organising the re-use of 3+ year old mechanics (again).

I'm hoping there is some sort of gameplay depth tied up with Squadrons?
There are supposedly changes/additions to missions coming in the next two (smaller) patches. Which is really the only thing I'm looking forward to this year besides Squadrons, because new mission types are the only way I see Frontier ever adding some actual interesting and varied gameplay scenarios to this game (e.g. missions that take place not in empty space or yet another identical patch of planetary ring!).

It's overall improvements to combat scenarios and general gameplay mechanic depth we desperately need.

eg: Consider if CQC was in effect brought into the core game such that for a mission you could holo-me into a fighter. Now allow a wing of NPCs to be given simple commands such as attack this, defend that. Consider how this alone could be leveraged for missions, CGs, Powerplay, and even Thargoid invasions.

Now improve combat scenarios. ie: For example introduce even simply convoy escort missions (protecting ships travelling through an asteroid field) and now we can use in conjuction with fighters too. Allow attack variants.

Now consider with Squadrons if there's missions/CGs at Squadron level? Now we have fighters that can be launched from them. Now consider bringing in Squadrons into Powerplay tasks, where one Powers CMDRs are trying to destroy convoys while the other is trying to protect them? Now imagine if Fleet Carriers can be brought in and used, and if they get damaged enough (like Capital Vessels) they then have to leave. Etc..

ie: Layer and layers of gameplay and assets than can be used to create more and more depth in more and more areas.


I find it very very worrying that I actually cannot really think of the last time the gameplay depth was really increased in this game! And it's for this very reason Multicrew IMHO was , and it could well be the reason why Squadrons might end up being a shell of what it could have been - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...is-now-coming-back-to-bite-ED-in-the-boosters!

We do not need more and more dead end mini-game elements bolted on. We need more and deeper gameplay mechanics added that can be used with each other to create and more involved outcomes.
 
^^Absolutely, 100%. Also, great thread you linked.

I know, there are so many great simple ideas for gameplay scenarios (e.g. the ones you listed - protect the convoy, attack/defend a target) that have been done a thousand times in every other space game (not to mention in other game genres)... but Frontier just don't seem to be able to grasp that that is what we need here.

It's so frustrating.

edit: the one time they do actually seem to have gotten this right is with Skimmer missions. Actually using an environment as part of the gameplay design, requiring the player to be tactical etc.
Unfortunately I believe they are quite rare/they nerfed the payouts a whole bunch? Skimmer missions are basically the only fully-fledged gameplay scenario I can identify in the game that isn't Thargoid-related or Fleet battles (both of which are mostly just more of the same fight-in-empty-space scenario).

Cannot wait for all of those things especially the walking around, ship boarding, being able to explore the massive stations & ground bases as well as the interior of ancient ruins. I feel this would bring additional game play & immersion the game.
 
Ed any chance of an upcoming Engineer discussion on Colonia!! Kind of feel left out in the cold out here.... it's like running out of milk and having to fly to the moon to get some more.

I disagree, it's more like running out of chocolate milk, only to find that you can get regular milk in Colonia, just not the chocolate to spice it up. xD

What is FDEV doing, what's the plan here?

Is there any clear direction this game is going?
ie: Thargoids are clearly attacking the bubble, yet this weeks CGs are for building a prisoner colony (that's human prisoners, I assume).

Does Colonia still have no engineers?

When will all the bugs that still exist be corrected?
ie: If I'm lucky enough to find a Multi Crew session, the Role Panels work about half the time. + disconnects, disconnects, Comms don't work, disconnects, audio missing, disconnects...
*what knucklehead thought Peer to Peer was a good idea here?

I find it difficult to be excited for upcoming updates, as the past dictates it will introduce more bugs that won't be addressed (or fail to be corrected upon attempted corrections).

Several times I log in, can't find a Multi Crew session, or local CMDRs, get bored of what is happening (or not happening), and log right back off.
ie: I'd love to go Thargoid hunting, as they are currently attacking my way of life. However, Thargons exist, and I don't like the rebuy screen.

I understand that I can go do anything I want, but I like playing with other people. I'm a social butterfly and I purchased this game because it's listed as an MMO.

Unfortunately, my hundreds of friends on my list are rarely logging in anymore (if at all). I wonder if they're fed up or as bored as I am with this game?

Would it be too much to ask for Frontier Developments to finish a thought before introducing it into the game?

These are all questions I have asked FDEV directly, for Years, with ZERO response to any, and a perma-ban on their Facebook page.

If FDEV would simply cough up some answers (or fixes), that would be great.

So we have one week of the Squadron FF left, but no post about Fleet Carriers yet. Any idea when/if this will be as there seems to be a lot of ... unfocused guessing about them ;)

I'd love some info about fleet carriers. but alas, my joystick broke down yesterday. Currently no money for a new one :( SO elite will have to wait for a month or so

I think you are correct, and the dates in the OP will be moved around. Just seems weird to me that they put out half the squadron questions, then switch to the (unrelated) power play issues and leave squadrons hanging. Makes me wonder if they're now planning on just dropping squadrons completely, as people seem far more interested in PP.

In many way's I'd prefer a much tighter schedule (some would say ... focussed :) ) for FFF : when you have these open ended timescales then I'm sure the quality of the submissions goes down as people start to riff off the imaginations of others.

With the current Powerplay feedback, will we get an update for that? There are some things that have developed that could do with some clarification.
