Formidine Rift... what is it?

The quote of her view of the galaxy was the reason I aborted my last trip to the Rift.

I'm not entirely sure that such a view of the galaxy is even really possible. Go 'up' enough until the stars thin out so much that you can't jump any further and the galaxy is still far from a complete image hanging in space. It might be a long way up or down but the 'full galaxy view' is probably artistic licence, to my mind.

it isn't. you can get around 2000-2500 ly above or below the plane, and the view is mind-boggling different. but the place where you can do that ("above" and "below" sag a* doesn' meet all other requierements.

following an arm outwards can have a similar effect, though (the galaxy is "hanging" behind you)

To add my own contribution here as I've had a lot of questions since the excellent video was published.

The mystery of the Formidine Rift as described by the clues in my story, Elite: Reclamation :

1. It is there to be found in game in ED.
2. You do not need 'Horizons' to find it as it was finalised long before 'Horizons'.
3. Whether it is found or not depends entirely on who goes looking.

Cheers,

Drew.

Thanks for posting that, I hadn't seen it. I'll see if I can send a little traffic his way. Great video. :)

I've not heard that anyone has found anything of note on the far side of the Formidine Rift yet...

Cheers,

Drew.

Maybe the reason no one has found anything in the rift is they can't figure out the "core of the problem".

My theory is that the "core of the problem" is the rift itself and we should be looking for some location centralized inside the rift.

thank you for this clarification. 3. is deeeeeeep! guess, we need to outfit imperial clipper explorers!

Intriguing!!

A certain type of ship perhaps? Or belonging to a certain faction?

There is bound to be an Engineer who boosts Jump Range, making the hard to reach systems available to more.
Not everyone has a Conda stripped down to its underwear

A poke around for Drews Egg is on my list, but not till I have done the Exploration Engineers

The Engineers expansion may make it easier, but it's been possible since launch back in 2014.

Drew.

What was the ship art the end of Reclamation that Khanina and Hassan are aboard when they visit Hassan's brother? Was it a Clipper?

Point 3 worries me a bit. I hope it's not locked only to Elites or something. I'm working towards elite in exploration, but still a while to go.

I've been looking for whatever is on the rift and for Raxxla for quite a long time, and it would be sad to find out I can't reach it due to rank.

I think it was a Cutter

It's not locked to a rank. All you need is wanderlust, patience and an ability to read between the lines. ;)

As for the ship at the end of Elite: Reclamation it was actually an Imperial Clipper, though it's called a Courier in the story. You can find out why on my FAQ page > http://www.drewwagar.com/elite-dangerous-saga/faq-elite-reclamation/

This makes me think it's for Elite explorers..
I read something yesterday by Drew that made mention of explorers to the rift being Elite.

I really hope its open to everyone and not locked away behind a rank

Edit: Ninja'd by the man himself, thank you Drew for clarifying!!

It was an Imp Courier but not the one we have in ED, the original Courier from the Frontier (Elite 2) game is the one Drew had in Reclamation. A thing of beauty, sleek elegant and deadly, similar in size to the Clipper. The new courier in ED is a disgrace IMO but we've been through this before

Thanks for clarifying, Drew!

Reading through Drew's posts here, I think now that we do have the right location, but nobody has found anything on the far side of the rift yet? That sounds like a huge hint.

As soon as I'm back from my trip I'll prep my Asp for a voyage again. I don't have the jump range to cross the rift, so will cross through the bridge and approach from behind...

This has gotten me interested in exploring, thanks! I'm going to buy and outfit an exploration Clipper tonight and plot a course. Think the requirement is a ship?

I believe the rift is pretty much exactly where Cmdr Erimus has it located, it fits all the clues and contains mystery, is treacherous to cross due to scoop able stars.
2. You do not need 'Horizons' to find it as it was finalised long before 'Horizons'.
Again, the Formidine bridge has been kinda mapped out for those who have crossed the rift already, this was before horizons.
3. Whether it is found or not depends entirely on who goes looking.
This has me totally bamboozled Drew!

Drew.

I found my first pollonium last night, 1more and a few more niobium and I am setting course for the rift but I am attempting to cross where I got stuck last time due to jump range, I am determined to discover what lies in the rift Drew but I have to admit I feel it is probably a wild goose chase. Your clues almost drove me insane last year when I tried this but they were most welcome and still the most challenged I've been in ED so far, right on Cmdr!

Gasp! A mystery Xbox players can participate in!! *Takes out compass* Drink up me harties yo ho!

I seem to remember Kahina and Hassan were off to explore at the end of the book - so given the clues from the old girl in the hospital - I thought what ship were they using?
Come to that what ship did the old girl say she used? (I'm thinking Cobra but could be getting confused with Luko).

Given Drew had this placed in the game at launch - and the cryptic depends on "who" comment - ship seems the most likely to me, as ranking has been ruled out!

Hmm, I was going to stay in the bubble for a time then back to the Pleiades, think I might try looking for this. Not sure my Type-6 is the right ship or will cut it! Tempted to try a Cobra III, although as an explorer (as opposed to scout) it is slightly worst than the Type-6.

I have the audio USB in the car - think I know what I am listening to on the way home tonight.
