Formidine Rift... what is it?

I've taken a look at the cluster of stars that look like a stream of stars, based near (and including) NGC 1333 - is this the Formidine Rift? Looks accessible from either side, but according to my research, is part of the Perseus Molecular Cloud.

Looked to me as if FD put it there with license, but upon checking looks like it's the real deal.

If this is the F-Rift, shouldn't be too difficult to cross?

Post edit: or is it describing the expanse between the Perseus Arm and the next outer arm in our galaxy? Thoughts please, I love mysteries (and FD sure know how to sow them).

Rho does seem like an interesting spot to check out. Don't think I'll make it there, though. Finished my kit so the 'conda is good to go, but after spending a couple of hours looking for jumponium resources, Im out of luck. Although, I may look for some while Im out in the deep. Sadly my play time is limited today, so I probably won't get too far and my vacation ends sunday, so back to work on monday. I'll have all day tomorrow and sunday, hopefully I can put in quite a bit of distance.

Any other suggestions? And Erimus, do you have a link to your map?

then at end:
"The holofac faded, leaving them with just the text."

It doesn't say that they saw a separate set of coordinates ... but seems to imply that the location was hinted at in the text.
Probably just my natural tinfoil tendencies

For a guy who is pretty good at noticing commas, pixels, etc., you seem to have missed the fact that there is no comma in the first quote above... ;-)

That's actually a really interesting thought! Never could have imagined that we could actually have the coordinates already available! But yes, a lot of tin foil around that for sure!!!

That said, that sentence is not really part of the message. The last sentence of the message, that is given in holofac, is: 'Good luck, and … right on, Commander.'

I'd look at that one more. Although the whole message displayed in the book is only the holofac and no text is really shown at any point.

Aren't the hints a little contradictory? If no one has gone past the Rift, doesn't the mean that whatever there is cannot be on the other side - but maybe rather somewhere IN the Rift?
Also, the part about watching your six is weird - when traveling through the rift, the fact that something could sneak up from behind might suggest that whatever it is comes from the rift? Maybe from said dark systems?

I don't think it's a contraction as that was written before some people headed out that way last year.

If you look at the EDDiscovery 3D map, to where someone's flown a heart, to the left and down a bit is a bunch of dots that look like a swimming germ which is me poking around trying to find a way across what I thought could be a possible southern path or bridge across the rift in my less than 30lyr jump asp last year. Here's some of those systems: Phoi Aescs HW-E d11-6 (earth), Phrio Hypa YL-J d10-2 (t-form), Phoi Aescs HW-E d11-6 (earth), Phoi Aescs DL-P e5-0 (10462 lyr from sol). Thinking of heading back with a 38 lyr Conda.

Up and to the left there's a thin line of dots which I believe looks like the location of the Formidine Bridge. It's over the bridge and turn north to Bovomit.

We could do what was done with Regor and scope out the shape of the rift with EDDiscovery while also trying to solve the puzzle.

Ah... Another of Drew's "eb.p" clues...

'EB, P' was part of Drew's signature for a while, and it was rightly translated to "Right on, Commander". We might have to dig up some of those old hints, as we might finally be onto something...

Thanks for the link. You are right that the book is not necessary to solve it, but it sure can contain extra hints though.

Although I do think the sentence might have something in it, mostly because he's used it in the past in codes, it is though a very common sentence in the Elite lore, and it would be very difficult to compose coordinates out of an already made sentence. Unless of course, the Rift has been adapted to the sentence instead...

But I'm starting to think that we have enough hints, and that we just have to manage to put them together. Find the link between all them maybe...

When Kahina went to Sol, London (and Cambrige) was the destination.

She described the visit as: "Most enlightening” and wanted to express her thanks to all who had helped her “navigate the fiendishly complicated Federation protocols.”

The reason I was thinking Enigma, was that it was cracked (in London), because the Germans ended all their messages with "Heil Hitler". These two words were used to find the 'key'.

In Elite, the messages tend to end with: Right On, Commander.
Drew is no stranger to codes.

3. What is the central point (core) of the entire Formidine Rift and or theme?

Possibilities of discoveries, need to know what to look for specifically otherwise we may zoom right past it..
1. Other ships from lore that have traveled there only to meet their demise? Ship Wreckage.
2. Something Alien, other than Thargoids? Octagonal or Hexagonal type ship?
3. Thargoids?
4. A wormhole?
5. ???

2. A tear in space?
3. An opening for which something has come through, and or can be seen?
4. A disturbance of space/time?


Mostly just thinking out loud, looking forward to the expedition..

If I read correctly, I believe one reference to the Rift states that a Thargoid incursion is happening(in the book, not the game). So I think you may be on track with what we may find.. Perhaps a wrecked alien ship or another piece of technology like the barnacles or artifact. Would be easy to miss and gonna take a thorough investigation of the planets in the area. I just docked at Obsidian Orbital and will be plotting my course from here. Definitely looking forward to the journey, this has reignited my explorer curiosity
