Formidine Rift... what is it?

Ahhh OK. Raxxla I will have to read up on. I don't think I can add anything to the artifact/barnacle mystery. The lengths the cannon have gone to get as far as thay have is well beyond what I can do.
But the rift...THAT is something I can get my teeth into. And the other thing's you mentioned, oh my! :D

IMHO this will take a much bigger effort than anything the Canonn has ever done:
Size of DWE
Organisation of the Monster
Science of the Canonn
Commitment of the FGE

First step is consensus on what we are looking for, and where. There are currently multiple proposed areas 20 Kylie apart.

I agree. And am reading them asap. It could also mean between the spiral arms....inside the rift. I've read on this thread that in the books..the old woman says something like she went as far as the rift. No one has been through it. Then there's the "core" of the problem clue. As for what some commander's have done researching the names...this is beyond me. I'll have to keep track of what others find on this aspect as my dyslexia hinders me.

Then there's the dark wheel. But to get rep with them you need elite rank to get into the system...so I've scrubbed that out as we don't need a rank.

Good point, but you don't need a rank if you were a kickstarter supporter, and when Senator Kahina disappeared she left a Dark Wheel insignia behind in her ship. So maybe being allied with them is still important.

From what i recall right now we have:

1.Raxxla - the mystery planet with gateways to other galaxies/universes
2.Formidine rift - a "place" that we dont know what it is
3.Unknow artifacts/Barnacles - most likely thargoid related

Then theres the Generation ships, rogue ai, other alien species...

The Sap8 Core Containers are also an outstanding mystery. The devs said 'something is going on there' and 'keep digging', but you need to be elite to get the missions which is kind of a huge barrier.

I'd say you do have to cross the rift:
'Once you reach the rift you’re going to have to plot a
way across
. There are no stars for dozens of light years and the dark systems haven’t been mapped, so
take your time, watch your six.'
And also:
‘Don’t tell no one, but I got as far as the
Formidine Rift, not many folks can say that! No one has gone past it and lived to tell the tale.’

I'm thinking of heading out again, but I'm having serious trouble finding time to take this endeavor.

My plan is though to cross through the Fromidine Bridge, and approach the Rift from behind. I have no chance crossing it with a 30ly Asp, so might have a better chance from behind. Also, this quote from a post from Drew does sound like a hint that whatever might there to be found, could very well be on the far border of the Rift:
'I've not heard that anyone has found anything of note on the far side of the Formidine Rift yet...'

If someone is in the area, behind the Rift, this might be a possibility to approach the RR line from behind... Sadly, I doubt I'll make it there anytime soon, although I'll try to find the time.

Ahhh yes. I understand it will be a massive group effort. What I mean to say about what the cannon have done is all to recording the sounds...applying math and such. Technical things like that. I know where the "on" button is on my pc and that's about it :)

Ohhh! Thank you! Having not read the books yet I'd not seen what was said in full. Having read them quotes, I'd agree with you. The other side of the rift is the place to look. I'm hoping to get to the rift by Sunday. Could anyone tell me a star name to point me to the bridge please?

Check the Galactic Mapping thread. There are maps there which can be very helpful: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=116450&p=3660696&viewfull=1#post3660696

But here is the description and a system name on where it starts:
The Formidine Bridge
Game map search ref. : Plooe Thoi BW-J b36-0 to Eafosys SD-E b26-0
POI Type: Beacon (Navigational Waypoint)
Situated towards the more 'westerly' regions of what is thought to be the Formidine Rift, this route acts as a relatively safe navigational crossing point from the Perseus Arm, across the Rift, to the near edge of the New Outer Arm.
(Screenshot Ref. Post #267).

By the way. Just decided to head out myself. Might see you around, although it's going to take me longer to get there than Sunday though...

Nice link aswell. Didn't know that was happening. Most excellent! Having said that. I didn't know about this mystery until late last week. Someone posted a link here from the barnicals and more thread. :p

Or some of us can just casually putter along searching individually. Not a fan of bureaucracy and politics of player groups, spreadsheets, being told what or what not to do, second unpaid jobs, etc.

It's not knowing what we are looking for that's the killer. Just dropping into a system and using the fog horn might not cut it. So scanning everything and looking out for possible signals it is. Stumbling upon something is really all we can hope for

Drew confirmed that you do not need Horizons, so it won't be on planet surfaces.

Nope. Drew said Horizons is not required but the Engineer update might make it easier (I assume he means the possibility of ships outfit with better FSDs)

Aren't the hints a little contradictory? If no one has gone past the Rift, doesn't the mean that whatever there is cannot be on the other side - but maybe rather somewhere IN the Rift?
Also, the part about watching your six is weird - when traveling through the rift, the fact that something could sneak up from behind might suggest that whatever it is comes from the rift? Maybe from said dark systems?

You're right that they are contradictory, although I read it as if nobody made it through and came back to tell, but her. I might very well be wrong though, it's just an assumption.

Also, I'm certain it has to be in the rift, but I think more towards the end. My approach is going to be to enter the Rift from behind, as crossing it from start to end with the Asp might be tricky...

We don't really know where the rift is, do we? Those locations marked on maps are where we think the rift is.

That's correct. But we have not received any hint yet that this might be wrong though. I'm sure that if we were that far off, Drew would have pointed that out somehow...

By how I read all the info we have, the Rift location seems quite accurate though, although it would be great to narrow it down a bit. I think it was Erimus who mapped that area and first defined it as the location of the Rift, although I could be wrong here.
