Formidine Rift... what is it?

Elite reclamation: The video played...

The full transcript of the section about the rift in the book is:
The video played.
'If you're listening to this it means you're smart enough to have bypassed Galcop, Federation and Imperial security.' The woman on the video smiled. 'Not bad, but it's nothing compared to what's coming. I'm guessing you'll be pressed for time so I'll be quick. You'll find the coordinates at the end of this message. You'll need a tough ship and a good pilot. It's a long way, so make sure you're prepped, no one will be around to help you out. Once you reach the rift you're going to have to plot a way across. There are no stars for dozens of light years and the dark systems haven't been mapped, so take your time, watch your six'. The woman leaned in closer to the recording device. 'What's there? Wish I could tell you, but they edited my memory pretty good, took me long enough to stitch this lot back together. Whatever it is, it's something that Galcop, the Imps and the Feds don't want us to see. Good luck, and ... right on, Commander.'
The holofac faded, leaving them just the text.

I suspect this has already been pointed out, but it does say that
You'll find the coordinates at the end of this message

The end of the spoken message is
Good luck, and ... right on, Commander.

We are not told whether the "text" in the message is a transcript of what is spoken or whether it is in addition. If it is in addition then there are no more clues (which is what I suspect), but if it is a transcript we have the coordinates in coded form at the end of the message.:)

Also keep in mind that nothing external of the game is needed. With that in mind, think of Elite and development, generally simplistic content and what was available to see in game since launch. Most likely it will be a named system of relevance with the possibility of some sort of USS.

Yes the clues provided by Drew do help, sort of ;) but keep it in context of what is in game generally.

EDIT: After repairing and re-configuring my ship my next scouting trip out there will be exactly to the edge of the arm, then farther out.

But I think FD may be quite sneaky, & also may underestimate the difficulty of finding things in-game; I want to read through Reclamation at least once (just got to start of chapter 2) to allay a sneaking suspicion that there may be another clue or two not yet spotted

Drew has told us more than once to look at Galnet. I have found nothing that could be twisted to make any clue, even with full 3mm military grade Tin Foil. Hope others continue the search better than I.

3mm... foil?

3mm is an acceptable width for Plate armour.

A large scale expedition to the Rift was something on the cards as far as I'm aware but was put on the back burner due to Distant Worlds, and as Agony Aunt pointed out I doubt Salomé and a lot of the Distant Worlds fleet will be back from the far side until the early summer so it probably won't be any time soon for those guys.

The only hint I got was that Salomé was actively pursuing mysteries to do with various regions throughout the galaxy, and is not just fixated to those within Rift, so as far as I know Salomé is following a lead unearthed beyond the far rim Abyss and that's one of the reasons why she took an interest in the Distant Worlds Expedition, but I don't know if this is something directly connected with the Formidine Rift mystery since its on the opposite side of the galaxy.

The Rift covers an enormous expanse of stars and even just sticking within a few dozen light years of the R & R line will still be a mammoth undertaking due to how many star systems are along it, so I think a group effort is definitely the way to go with this :) Maybe an advanced scouting party could be sent out in the near future, followed by a large scale expedition organized for later in the year if needs be.

I am still in the Rift and would be willing to team up with whoever if it will help. At the moment, I haven't played since saturday. I downloaded subnautica to try out as a "break" from the monotony of staying out there and to refresh my mind a bit. But anytime Im on, my CMDR name is the same as here. I got off work early today, so trying to sift through some of this thread and flush out more for the new topic. Most of it will be easy, but Im afraid the Galnet articles may be a chore to find.

Speaking of.. Is it okay if I link to your Map image via your thread and include it in the post?

Maybe the "Good luck, and ... right on, Commander" is referring to something in GalNet?

Or some of the words can be found in the articles?

Cant test this my self right now...

Love EDSM, but I it does take a lot of effort. I am quite sure the takeup would be pretty low.
By leaving each sector to each group, it allows them to deal with it as they see fit; using EDSM, their own Sheets, Trello, or just pen and paper.

(Even just a search on the Sub Sector prefix until you get a system appear that does not have Data would do for single hunters, something I would try to do myself)

Do you mean entering trilateration data in EDDiscovery?
It can been done in under a minute. There's a couple of capabilites in it people may not be aware of.
On the trilateration page after clicking start new, select the systems you're going to use first. Once you have your list, a single click to hi-light a system name also copies it to the clipboard, then a click to hi-light the distance box and one more to open it, then switch to the galmap to paste in the name then switch back and type the distance in. After five are ok submit them regardless if the program's is saying enter more systems, go by the log message pane for whether they were good enough.

I dunno if people don't have enough patience for that, trello and spreadsheets?

a sidenote

Too bad about the dark wheel symbol and the sky from earth.

However if Kahina's intention is to overthrow the entire political structure, while not mentioning what would come after that and from recent history we all know how well that goes, and make herself Queen of Heaven, noting that being fictional she has the option of being a beloved and sane tyrant, a Queen needs a throne and it just so happens the constellation Cassiopeia is the throne of the Queen of Heaven and the r-r line in the middle of the back of throne exactly where the main knuckle would be on a vibro-massage throne available from fine store everywhere. There are many stars in Cassiopeia yet very few of them are in the game and in the dreaded rift.

Conicidence, most likely.

In Drew's recent post where he says there are no clues embedded in the post he doesn't sign off with Right On Commander which he usually does meaning he removed it so there'd be no clue except that would then become a clue in a clueless post which it can't be can it.

lol, a clue by omission....paradox!

Elite Galaxy Online might be the way to go for recording discoveries. Here is a quick video demonstrating how it works:
https://youtu.be/WDUUb6rm2f8

Only problem with that is there is an extra step involved for filthy console players like me. I can take a screenshot on the XBox, but then I have to wait for it to update the cloud storage, then go to my XBox profile on the internet, find that screenshot and download it onto my computer. Then I can plug it into the online discovery scanner. I don't know what the limit is on screenshots, but it can become quite the ridiculous process to SC every body in a system, upload, download, upload again. (I have the patience for it, but I don't know how many other XBox E:D players do.)

So I'm confused. In Reclamation the lady says to plot a path THROUGH the rift. As in we are trying to find something on the other side... Yet we have the "core" of the problem. These seem to be at odds with each other. I'm fighting the Cerberus plague right now (or rather taking a break to do rl stuff like work) so I can't head out but I would be interested if anyone can think of a "core" beyond the rift.

I actually have a group of stars to check out that are way off on a line from Sol through the RR systems in case we don't have the right rift. Does anyone have the quote about the r-r line handy? Is it specific that you have to fly from reorte to riedquat and keep going? Could it be interpreted as travelling to RR from Sol and staying on that line?

A few more facts about the Berber queen Kahina, aka Dihya.

She had a war god called Gurzil: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gurzil

Gurzil is a Taurus (chap with ox head). That remindes me of the UA markings.

The Berbers practised a Cult of the dead: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traditional_Berber_religion#Cult_of_the_dead

That makes me think of a Tinsola type grave yard.

A Tinisola-like ship graveyard would tie in with "You don't know what I've seen. I've sailed beyond the Formidine Rift, seen the fleets of Octagonal ships blocking out the stars. I've stood on lost worlds, sterilised clean by the Thargoids and erased from humanity's maps. I've seen the graves from the Thargoid wars, countless headstones stretching beyond the curvature of the horizon, little spots of reflected light dottering the abandoned continent ..."
Would it be scannable? or a USS?

But even with Coordinated Scour you would need to make sure all explorer ships are same and with max range. Otherwise you will leave blind spots behind. Somewhat unrealistic IMO. Also, you will see that in the more and more diluted regions the choice of possible routes will also drastically go down so that a "mass-flooding" of these regions doesn't make much sense.

No. Nobody plots routes, you scour every system in your chosen sub sector. Nothing gets missed

Could be a Persistent POI, similar to the Antares wreck sites.
It could even be an dead Coriolis station, from one of the lost 'galaxies' from clasic Elite.

You said it,,, not us ;)

Edit: I bought an Xbox just to play Red Dead Redemption, on the flip I would buy a PC just to play Elite if I was a filthy uh you know...

I would love to, and given the chance I would go the whole nine yards and construct a full-blown cockpit with hydaulic lift system to simulate actual movement while playing with multiple HD monitors, a top-of-the-line HOTAS, and custom built instrument console... But I have no money or space to even set up a regular PC. So, console it is until I figure out how to unscrew my life.
