Great layout, much better than before all topics and subs that fits onto one page, if you know what I mean.

I really wonder how many people will bother with having to track multiple sub forums with minimal participation in them where their contributions are just going to gather dust? A general channel was/is superior.

I think is the intention. It should cut down on the toxicity, or at least hide it in other company's media platforms, but it does this by make interaction tedious. Maybe it'll cut out the repetitive discussions and keep things on topic, but I imagine the fun of playing the Elite forums just got nerfed.

Now that DD has been made less prominent, I think we'll find the other subforums gain a lot more participation than most of the old ones previously had. Just give it some time for people to stop seeing DD as the "main" forum.

I hope you're right, Gunnet. It's just a sour note to start 2.4 off with; I loved DD

Yeah, I'm liking the changes already.

Dangerous Discussion was like a black hole drawing all topics towards it. Was a bit weird having sub-forums and yet the best place to discuss their topics was often in DD because that's where all the eyeballs were.

Not sure the organisation is perfect but it's far better than the mish-mash we had before. I like that Newcomers, Dangerous Groups and Suggestions are now more visible.

It's going to change how people use the forums. I tended to land direct into DD and miss other sections, now I find myself landing at the Elite Dangerous level and getting a better overview of activity.

Good stuff!

As I said in the other thread they keep redirecting everyone to... I hate these changes.

It was easier to just bookmark Dangerous Discussion and use it to one click to the canonn thread, or see the latest pvp vids / news / ganks, now everything has too many sub forums and it's not worth the effort to bother going there since most of us will just keep using Dangerous Discussion as before, if anything the mods just gave themselves MORE work with all the threads they will have to constantly move around.

For what it's worth; I also liked the old DD, and even though I'm optimistic for the forum's future under the changes I don't enjoy the prospect of DD's unique character being lost.

Hey, at least in a couple of years everybody around now will be able to talk to newcomers about the good old days before we had subforums for everything :)

Well, I've seen that a number of threads have already been started and then redirected since the forum revision, all to disparate sub forums. I don't see how anybody really likes the idea of sorting through the entire forum directory just to keep track of a single thread they commented in or were following.

Wow, you guys are really leaving vBulletin? I look forward to seeing what the new forums will be like!

Hopefully something that will feature recent (i.e within the last decade) innovations such as notification when someone quotes your post. :D

For ones I've commented in, I'm just picking them up from my post history. Partly because I fear change and partly because I can't be bothered working out where anything is.

Personally, I was sick of all the PVP vids and gank threads. Now I never have to see them unless I really want to watch people getting salty about internet spaceships. Might suck for the attention seekers, but they still have reddit to salve their need.

How much effort is a couple of clicks?

It may take some more time than others to adjust, but people do change their behaviour. We'll have lots of moved threads to start with, but it will drop off as people get used to the new structure.

I suggest using subscriptions to track threads you are interested in.

Pretty much this, I mean call me lazy but I cannot be bothered to check every sub forum just to get into conversations with the community. Hell the Canonn thread that was a sticky post isn't even accessible from Dangerous Discussion, you have to go over to the Aliens subforum to read it and that's just too much effort... and my browser even with folders already has WAY too many bookmarks.

If only it was that simple; the more you compartmentalise and obscure conversation, the more broken and staccato it becomes. DD was busy because of a lot of inter-related discussion. I can understand the splintering because this makes moderation, fundamentally, easier in that like topics can be contained, but it can become an echo-chamber when context is lost.

I'd like to believe you; but i've seen structure like this before. A few folks will decamp to the various sections, but many may just stop communicating at all, let alone outside of DD. This was the case already, ignoring that doesn't really change it. Those sub-sections won't suddenly get a heap busier, just because a bunch of conversations are ostensibly 'offlined' there.

When you go from 2-3 places for primary discussion to 12+, folks won't bother. They just don't. Happy for that to be illustrated otherwise, over the next while, but I've seen enough of this previously, to know how it works out.

Perhaps this example, will be different. I do hope so.
