Found my first ever undocumented ELW!

Finally found my first ever completely unknown ELW today, though I've not yet got back to civilisation to sell my data to tag the planet. I'm not sure if I've just been unlucky but so far no matter where I've gone, whenever I've discovered an ELW, it's always been at least 'first discovered' by someone else.

As such, I've got plenty of 'first mapped' ELWs under my belt but I was starting to think that perhaps I was cursed or something, lol!

Well, it was such a rush when I scanned it and saw that there were no tags on the planet (I was the first to visit the system). Can't wait to hand in my data. Brilliant!

Just be careful, after I found my first I died on the way home and due to some bug I couldn't rescan the data I lost on that trip.

Finally got the tag a few years later when I met up with Chiggy in the system and he scanned it while we were in a wing. Went back and got a solo mapping tag when I took my shiny new Cutter out for a test flight just after mapping became a thing.

Congrats! Thats special! Still remember my first one like it was yesterday.

Found 3 in total today and yesterday. That is not common though. Usually find one within 6 hours of exploring.

Get out far enough.
Use FSS to identify their patterns and skip the scan if you want to save time.
Go for F Stars...ELWs are more common there.

I did a few when I just headed off into the black, but heading to no set destination. If you head to places like Sag A* and Colonia, chances are most places by now en-route to both have been mapped, even if you take a wide detour first before plotting a route to one of them, to try and pick up systems people have not yet gone through. As many will have thought the same way also. But heading off in the black to no set destination in particular, the chances are far less likely people will have taken that same path I guess. More so if you head in a direction completely away from Colonia or Sag A

I second that ... plus: You should be fine going for SagA or Colonia as soon as you have reached a distance of 1000 ly from sol. Your chances are also multiplying if you decide to travel a few hundred ly up or down the galactic plane first.
