General / Off-Topic Fox hunting return ?

Telling your government you are unhappy about some barbaric proposal wont take that much time, and its not as if we're spending 24/7 fighting the stuff you mentioned anyway. Not much the average person can do about antbiotic resistence or global warming, but this stuff is within your grasp. :p
That's true, but it feels like "chaff" to distract us from the important things that are the reason that we have governments. They're there to do he things we as individuals can't do. I can't do anything about antibiotic resistance but the UK government can. It can fund research, direct the NHS to put in place procedures to limit the spread of resistance, it can pressure china etc to reduce use, it can pressure for reducing use in agriculture.

We need to keep up pressure on our gov for these things.

Bringing up fox hunting is an emotive lightning rod that keeps the electorate occupied and fatigues their attention so they become numb to more important issues.
I rarely read petitions to sign them a more because I get several mails and FB notifications a day on hundreds of different topics.

This is another one.

I predict that at some point in the next parliament a fox hunting related petition or protest will dominate a news cycle and obscure somethin much more important.

I live in the countryside, a village in Lincolnshire, before this i lived on and around the various rural RAF bases my Dad was stationed at, and i still regard the Elite as the ones on the right wing, the liberal Elites are just tories in disguise, assuming you mean the Macrons and Clintons of the world, they are all in it for the rich folk, city or countryside. So as i have said, let's get real lefties and true liberals to shake up this establishment.

Sounds like we live not far from each other! my dad to R.A.F Lincs, town near base, probably find we go to same pub! ;)

By the way i don't think you can be both part of the Elite and a be a democratic socialist, it would defeat the point.
my point is that the right wing rural types who fox hunt etc, think that they are being dictated to by some "metropolitan elite" who don't understand or care for them. It's a "urban"(well rural, but you get my point) myth that the problems of rural life (bad roads, farm paperwork, regulation, fox hunting bans etc are al dreamt up by this mythical group of "elites".

So when the ban came along it was clearly the fault of these mythical "elites" and therefore some people resisted not because they like fox hunting but because it was resisting an outside imposition.

Hell,if the "metropolitan elite" had made fox hunting mandatory some people who objected to the "elites" dictating to them would object to that!

Hence my preference for making it just a lot of faff for a day's riding.

Maybe as a distraction?

I was mildly against the original.ban. Although I have no particular love of fox hunting I felt that trying to ban it only made certain people dig their heels in more. To a certain type, part of the attraction is doing something "banned by the elites".

Personally I'd have required.mandatory pubic liability insurance. Fox hunting without insurance punishable by large fines for all participants. Then let rising insurance and insurer's pulling out of the market due to.boycotts do the rest. A bit less "right on" but probably more.effective in the long run.

As for dredging this up now..... this is fiddling whilst Rome burns. We have brexit, climate change, automation caused unemployment, the lingering financial problems, Russia, Trump, antibiotic resistance, the NHS, the refugee crisis and god knows what else to worry about........... and bloody fox hunting is what we're going to spend time on?!

It's like worrying about a hangnail when you're on fire......having just fallen out of a plane......over an ocean of acid....that's also on fire

I said in another thread that it was a good distraction, from the real issues of the day.

I also said it would mean that the estate kids would be able to get together with their dogs and go and chase things. Can you imagine the reaction from the local council and police? Even if they were just chasing a rag, like what is meant to happen with the hunts now.

Personally I don't think the subject should even get a hearing in Parliament, it is a barbaric pass time and should be consigned to history; but now they (the Tories) have the majority they will demand a vote etc.. There is a lot of money in and around the practice; from breading and keeping the horse, dogs etc, to supplying all the tack required, but you can't really call it a thing for the rich, more like something for the gentry, or snobs. The public school boy set, that kind of thing and it is not just cruel to the foxes, because in the last two legal fox hunting seasons, more horses died, than foxes and that is just sick.

Looking at some of the posts above, it could be used as part of the anti-Tory; sorry Mrs may, campaign. Something like 'Vote for May and you are voting to bring back fox hunting'.

As to she is the only person fit for the Brexit job; that is just a joke. She is not going to be writing down or planing what the UK needs to get out if the deal; she has advisers and consultants to do all that. She can be as strong as she like, or as she has quoted herself as, stubborn, awkward and claret minded, as she likes; it makes no difference, because a set of 'proposals' will be presented to the E.U. and 27 member states will make their choice; one way or another. We have diplomats, better placed and better experienced to do the job than her.

Switch off your electronic stuff when you're not using it, don't drive fast, recycle.

Don't ask the docs for meds if you've got a virus, don't eat any meat that has come from China.

I'm a big animal lover, so naturally I hate fox hunting, and automatically hate anyone who does it. It's cruel and evil.

People wouldn't be particularly happy if I let them lose in a field, in a high visibility jacket, and no weapons, and sent a pack of wolves after them, while chasing them down in an Apache gunship.

Actually, come to think of it, I'd be particularly happy with that.... :D

Foxes are awesome, I want one as a pet. Lol

Meet Chuckles. She has a neurological condition so can't be released into the wild. :(

I wonder what type of person would enjoy hunting and tearing her to pieces.

Aww, I want one more. I'm sure my girlfriend won't mind. Or my cat.
(My girlfriend loves foxes too, and my cat loves dogs, so I'm sure it'll be fine!)

Anyone who enjoys hurting animals basically needs locking up, or feeding to hungry lions.

Preferably locking up with hungry lions.

no you don't, they are wild animals and can only be minimally domesticated. They may appear cute but will lay waste to a coop of hens or tear the throat out of some lambs without even blinking.

In exactly the same way that some "domesticated" dogs will do with people!

Natural instinct is an interesting thing. I live in the centre of a town there's always plenty of peoples bin bags left out, or discarded Kebabs, so there's plenty of easily available food. But I saw 2 young foxes in the green space out the back of my flat digging in the ground, they'd dug up a piece of rotting tree root that had some grubs in it. There's no need for them to do it, but the instinct is there.

As for bringing back fox hunting, when you put someone in charge of DEFRA who doesn't believe in Climate Change, agrees with Fracking, wants to use banned pesticides and also wants Fox Hunting brought back... I'm just surprised it took May this long to say she wants to do it too.

Foxes are cute. I've interacted with a wild vixen in Lapland, and she was very intelligent and polite creature. An English chap I know enjoys the company of an urban fox, who spends time in his backyard, in the company of his cats. This has been going on for years.

Going on about how "vicious" a predator on the hunt is.... that's just silly. Ever seen a housecat hunting? How about a dog attacking something?

My cat is likely to do the same.
Foxes can be domesticated though, watch some YouTube videos.

I want one, and I shall call him Tails.

I also need a hedgehog.

I watched the chuckles video and the thought of some posh pillock (too nice a word) setting dogs to tear her apart for sport , i'm not ashamed to say, made me want to cry. But then again i'm just a soft lefty liberal who cares too much about things like human decency. Now i'm just getting pure anger issues regarding the tories, tearing apart animal and human lives without a second thought.
