FPS - it seems to be the windows & glass, or the light reflections being rendered on them

With the glass i remember a thread back in the day from Rollercoaster Tycoon 3. Some guy made a test with Custom scenery objects where he put a specific amount of cubers with a diffuse material and the same amount of cubes but with a glass material (same applies to Materials like fliage where the use an alpha mask). The FPS tanked only with the glass or transparency textures / materials. So the glass shader pipeline is still far from optimised and probably as old as the engine back in RCT3 days.

Seems to be even worse.

I now have slight increase in concourses (60 instead of 45 on a 2080 in 4K Ultra), but as soon as I look out onto terrain through a window, down to 20 fps

Still patching will know in a few minutes. Meanwhile was super happy when I saw that NMS has DLSS now.

Well, I'm less and less buying that post from Braben ,that this ran on Ultra on a 980. Because it is still trying to burn my 2060 alive on ultra, and not delivering a stable 60. On High it is kinda okay in the station, but colored glass, or any other see through material drops it. Oh and shadows on ultra is -30 fps flat.

I have shadows on Low and Special Effects on Medium. Draw distance I drop to half, and also I recommend not using a wide FOV when on foot - the wider the FOV, the more likely you're going to be looking through Slow Glass (tm).

Also fun fact, material quality High is not used in any preset xD High preset is medium, and Ultra is Ultra. Why?

Because they don't have shaders for high material atm.
No joke. The whole thing is totally unfinished if you dig through the engine. And the patch today (IMHO, always take with a grain of salt what people on the internets say) only showed me: They are helpless and don't know how to get everything working together.

I could further discuss my reasoning for this but I would like to avoid a wall of text.

Great, that's a problem, because I am running high since ultra tanks the framerate too much. sigh
Oh well, Neverwinter and PSO2 it is then. Good thing NGS is coming out next week.

To get it back on topic, after the patch.

Facing the elevators, getting around 50 frames:

Facing 180 degrees in the oposite direction, facing glass out to the terrain and some in between:

Only 28 fps left. And if I stay in this position, the fps drop further, I had them down to stuttering 10 fps which would not recover.

Hardware: i7-7700, 16GB Ram, Asus 2080 Strixx OC
Settings: 4k, everything on Ultra

That fps counter going to the middle will drive me crazy. But yeah, on 1080p you can get about 59-60 there on high. Maybe even up to 71 if you just look at a wall.

I also tested (before I abandoned ship again) that switching shadows to ultra in my hangar, where there's just little old me and my DBS, indeed drops my fps from 71 to 41. Which is insane, and tells me, the non game dev, that the whole station is still rendered around me, even if I'm in my little metal box.

Hardware: Ryzen 7 2700X, 16GB G-Skill DDR4 3200, Gigabyte RTX 2060 Windforce 6GB
Settings: 1080p, High preset with terrain set to ultra, and material quality to high.

After today's patch I'm getting 120 FPS solid now in the concourse, even when looking through multiple glass windows. Blown away tbh with the improvements, so kudos to FDEV.

Only time it drops is when looking at the bar area with multiple npcs. Drops to around 110 FPS

Ultra Settings at 1080p

About to try a Restore Power Mission and a High CZ, will post results shortly.

Hitting 45% CPU load / 93% GPU load

Can you try going into the Pioneer and looking out through the window?

I posted 4-5 hours ago in a similar location (outpost instead of coriolis?) and the FPS was fine looking into the Pioneer through the window there, but tanked looking out.

Guessing they forgot to put the 'slow glass' reflection material on the outside of those windows in small outposts.

Will do, making my way there now.

Will edit with SS's shortly.

That seems to match my experience with the two screenshots before. My FPS only tank if I look at/through windows out to the planet from the settlements concourse.
