Franchise Community Challenge Discussion

My contribution suddenly jumped to 5 out of nowhere

Found 1 new Arctic Fox, that ended up being the first of a litter of 5
And contribution stayed on 5 after the other 4 were born

So my working theory is that:
contribution increases for the whole litter when just the first one has been born,
even though you don't get the actual notification until the whole litter has been born
Check the ones still pregnant. The moment the babies are identified, you get the credit. Birth will come a short while later :)
I usually check when they notify about an imminent birth. You can then check the genealogy page for the new babies to see if they are gold or not.

Ah - so we get credit as soon as the animal is in labour and rushed to the hospital :D

(explains my confusion with previous challenges, and never being quite certain which animals counted!)

Yeah, that's what prompted me to check the pregnant ones and noticed the pattern.

Took a look at the websites source code for clues to quantity and animals they have listed .. quantity isn't visible ( at least for the moment, unless they changed it rofl ) but the list is there. For those that want to see it .. ( "GrizzlyBear, HimalayanBrownBear, TimberWolf, ArcticWolf, DallSheep, PolarBear, Reindeer, GreySeal, KingPenguin, ArcticFox, Moose, EurasianLynx, RedCrownedCrane, RedFox, Wolverine, HighlandCattle )

Happy I can ditch the Markhors - they were being pesky trying to get to consistent gold, but does anyone know if a Pallas Cat works?

I have a gold pair in my China zoo .. but they had only just had babies, so taking awhile for the next batch to cook rofl. Okay, pregnant Pallas .. just waiting for the birth
Nope .. 3 gold babies and no increase in count.

Console in the lead again rofl .. 6% to 0% give or take. If the website %age is correct.
11 hours later .. 16% to 0% .. 3 more days till the weekenders play so hopefully we will hit at least 20% by tomorrow.

Damn, I had a great couple of Pallas cats popping gold babies regularly... I thought they nounted and Timber wolves didn't, I guess the timing of the count confused me. I'll ditch the cats. :(
Are polar bears worth the trouble? It seems to me their reproduction is not easy nor quick.

For me; the Polar Bears are just a good fit for the zoo and keep the guests happy, but I agree, they're not helping with the challenge much

Red Fox and Arctic Foxes have been my winners so far .. I get so many that I've been trading out at least half of the babies whilst keeping 4 or 5 breeding couples in the zoo, with each pair having 1 or 2 broods before releasing and moving to the next. Still only 28 at the moment. But might have to move to a breeding farm zoo to speed up the process for the foxes. I can't believe we are still at 0%.

Yep - I'm assuming and hoping that that 0% is wrong :D
If it's showing personally percentage again, I may get to 1% by the middle of February

Okay, fortunately my old research zoo was being used for Red Fox Variant breeding and had over 30 gold foxes in there. So have refined the habitats into small breeding pens and a large play pen for the babies.

Moving my totals to this post.
Arctic Fox (8)
Red Fox (151)
Reindeer (1)
Timber Wolves (3)
Wolverine (5)
Total 168
And still 0% at nearly 170

Very similar to me - I just hit 40, but hopefully have a bit more time today
This is my most consistent gold:

and it's Markhor 😢☹️😭

I kept my Timber Wolves from the last challenge, since they were producing gold, and the female immediately died of old age. So, gold son and his bronze melanisticmate are now in there. Replaced the other challenge animals with Arctic foxes, Arctic wolves, grizzly bears and a herd of reindeer. The reindeer will be a race to see if I can get good-enough adults to produce gold babies, because the females are decent but the original male (which took three nights to find) was horrid. Finally got a new bull last night, so we'll see if he can do any better. Everyone else has produced gold offspring, so I'm contributing with those, at least!

The zoo is partly for challenges and partly for research, which is why I'm not going the single species route; I've enough good wolves to fill all the enclosures, but they're completely researched. Trying to get the "Research all" trophy without the Sandbox bug this time. Am still miffed that Steam ruined my lovely plan on how to research everything by simply handing me the achievement the first time I opened sandbox. So this zoo contains a ton of permanent exhibits for funding and 4-5 challenge habitats, plus a research habitat that currently has black wildebeest and Ald. tortoises.

200.000 is the quantity. My list is tested and those animals count. The website does state "HighlandCattle" but it does not count
The website is showing this number now ..
1% of 200k is 2k
0.51% is 1,020

I have bred 100 animals, how many have you bred so far that have counted ? And anyone else ?
I've posted a similar message on Steam for the people that aren't on these forums.
