“Free” ARX: Broken by Design. Fix Inside.

I'm trying to wrap my head around the problem. It takes me 1.5-2 weeks to afford a 600+ ARX paint job (with free ARX) from a combination of mission running, combat and some exploration data.

Is it the ship kits or the 2k+ ARX fancy paint jobs that's the issue because they take far too long to afford without spending real money?

What are you guys spending on?

I now have 2 ship kits from free arx. Granted, that's all I use them for. 🤷‍♂️ I lie, also bought a stygian paint. OK, maybe also a decal or two.

Recently I've been circumnavigating small bodies in the Sol system in my SRV. I part way through my third moon. Usually I do 30 degrees of circumference per day but no matter how skillful this endeavour is it only brings in just 1 free Arx per session. What a joke!

The point of Arx in the first place isn't to provide you with anything.

It's a way of getting more money out of you. By design.

It doesn't matter if you max out your weekly Arx or not, the average cosmetic buyer won't scrimp away for weeks to get the thing they want for free, they'll buy Arx and the few they get from playing is a discount.

It's also a way for FD to claim everything is earnable "just by playing the game".

I made a firm decision to never purchase paint jobs or ship kits with real money and since the free Arx have been available I have stuck to that choice.

Further to my comment about ARX use, I need to add some intelligent info I received.
I can buy a paint job with keyboard only. using mouse does not work.
I have been told twice about this.
Seems that my memory should shutup and go home. Along with me.

I have a theory about Free ARX... I believe Frontier only reward those areas of gameplay which are likely to result in the individual purchasing additional Ship Kits and/or Paint Jobs. It's sales psychology all the time with Frontier. The absolute worst amount of Free Arx is circumnavigation of worlds in an SRV; you would be lucky to earn 1 Free ARX per session.

I've never spent any, I always get 400 a week, in fact usually the same day they reset, maybe they are targeting the wrong people!

Free ARX are nothing more than a psychological 'dangling carrot on a stick' that (by purposeful design of Frontier) inspire impatient donkeys to continue on their trek by handing over real life currency for things that are just out of reach.... That said, I have been known to do that in the past... Nowadays, I'm a bit more patient :)

Well, it's designed to lure people into purchasing ARX with actual money.
Which it seems to do rather well based on how it triggers people (case in point, this thread).

And -- complaining about getting an equivalent of max €0.28 every week is, eh.

ARX does nothing to advance or improve gameplay. It's simply another grind for something that is, ultimately, useless.

If you want the paint job go buy the freaking thing. If you don't want to buy it, or can't afford it, then wait. Nobody is at any sort of disadvantage because they aren't maxing out their ARX every week. So you only have the one paint job for your Anaconda while the other guy has five...he probably bought them before ARX was implemented...
