Free The Cobra MKIV

As someone who can purchase the Cobra IV, I don't want any of you non-exclusives to have access to it, even if it's a garbage ship I wouldn't bother owning. It's a symbol that the world isn't fair, deal with it.

Totally Agree - same as that coveted Black Friday skin that a lot of CMDR's seem to want.

The Cobra IV and Black Friday skin would no longer have that "exclusive" status if it's available to all and sundry !!

The Black Friday skins were sold in the shop last year. To all and sundry. I'd be amazed if they aren't sold again this year.

no, it was a pre-order bonus and exclusive to an horizon pre-purchase and opening it to everybody would warrant a refund.

You did get it if you pre-ordered but it wasn't a pre-order bonus in the sense of being exclusive to pre-orders at all. You got it as long as you bought the base game and Horizons separately. It was buying Horizons as a separate expansion that actually qualified you for it, pre-ordering is only relevant because obviously if you pre-ordered you had by definition bought the expansion separately.

That's why when they changed the purchase model they made it unavailable for anybody buying after 5 February 2016.

The Cobra Mk IV will be made available to purchase using in-game credits for players who purchased both Elite Dangerous + Elite Dangerous: Horizons before a certain date (dependent on platform).

PC users are eligible to purchase the Cobra MKIV with in-game credits if they purchased Elite Dangerous + Elite Dangerous: Horizons before 5th Feb 2016. This includes Lifetime Expansion pass holders, Alpha & Premium Beta owners.

Horizons was released on 15th December 2015, nobody was pre-ordering it between December 16th and 5th Feb 2016. It wasn't a pre-order exclusive. It was date-locked.

I bought the Xmas special Chrome Cobra IV skin before I realized it wasn't the Cobra III. I didn't bother asking for a refund, I was holding on to that little bit of hope.

Jeez, all these special snowflakes biting the whole "exclusivity" thing. Even if it was a really good ship I'd still don't mind everybody having it.

it's not about players being special, i wish anybody could have one (specially cmdr bomon!), it's about frontier deciding to make it exclusive. that's difficult to undo.

there was no merit in getting it except preordering horizons.

now i could say: jeez, exclusive offers on launch are quite normal in games and special snowflakes still don't get how that works!

Sorry mate, I have to disagree.

You haven't bought the special offer so it's only natural you side with "Yeah, free the Cobra IV already". For those who gave our money in an instant when they asked there were no "...and maybe it will be available later" options. It was "we need your money right now, and for that you'll get this exclusive item that is available only now". A simple trade deal involving real money.

And it won't be in keeping to make it available from Jameson only. That was not in the deal I paid FD for.

Sorry back at you, but:

"The Cobra MkIV is available for in-game credits to anyone who has individually purchased both Elite Dangerous and Elite Dangerous: Horizons before the 5th of Feb 2016 on PC." - http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Cobra_MkIV

I did purchase both Elite: Dangerous and Horizons, but it was after the 5th of Feb, 2016 - it was July of 2016. So you can disagree all you like, but it was not necessary to give money right when it was asked for - instead, those kickstart payees were given access to Founder's World without the requisite to reach Elite in any profession first.

I'd also like to read the wording of your contract which spells out your exclusitivity. Not a paraphrase, not a misquoute, but actual legal document.

Not trying to give you hard time or any grief here - just find this to be highly suspect.

Understandable request, mate. Here it is.

Existing players will also unlock the exclusive Cobra Mk IV ship in Elite Dangerous: Horizons. The Cobra Mk IV will be available in the game only to players who joined us in the first year – forever. It’s our ‘thank you’ for your faith in the game...

Oooh. Checkmate.

Have to say that's probably the defining example of why they should just forget the idea of ever doing exclusives again anyway.
...[whole heap of text better read on the post itself]...

The whole deal with exclusives and computer games is bunk, it's just one more thing along with pre-order bonuses in general that causes more problems than it's worth. Just create the content and let all the players buy it if they want it without trying to turn it into a collectible. That way you make more money and have less butthurt to deal with.

I completely agree with this. I am not a fan of any form of pre-order bonus on any game. It makes me think of salesmen in cheap suits passing over their pens, pointing at contracts, tapping their watches, and telling me to hurry because it's a limited time offer.

i hate marketing stunts and types but exclusive offers seem a fair tool to me, as long as they don't break gameplay (which neither the cobra 4 nor any paintjob do. in this regard engineers being blatant pay to win is much, much worse ... well, it would be if there was something to 'win' in this game). it's an offer, you can take it or leave it.

if people can't sleep unless they are in possession of every inane piece of junk and gadget in the game and need to make a drama out of it that's another issue ...

Chuck Norris should gift materialize a Gold Plated, none of that paint business, Cobra Mark I V to Commander Bomon.

If FD would set it up, I will happily gift my MkIV to CMDR Bomon just for that video alone.[up]

He can have mine too :D

The best game video I've ever seen!

Yes, made me chuckle. That video definitely deserves a Mk IV. If I were able to do so, I'd hand mine over.

Though on the subject of exclusivity, if an item is sold as an exclusive item then that is what it should be. Personally, I think FD should have stuck to cosmetics as thank-yous, but as the Mk IV was given as "exclusive forever", it should remain so (otherwise how could I trust anything FD say in future?).

The problem with these pre-order offers is that you are being asked to purchase something without the chance of seeing it. Of course this Cobra4 is only a very small offender of this, and seeing as I have the lifetime pass I just felt of it more of a bonus than anything else.
