I am actually a career security specialist so I can also see off undesirables and look menacing on command.
You mean a security guard with no useful qualifications.

Hi, I've been playing the beta for a couple weeks now. Throughly enjoying it!
I then saw that FD were recruiting for software developers, but I do not think I would get very far in your recruitment process. The reasons? The main one is that I have nothing demonstrable to show off myself.
* I code weekdays during the day - pretty much constantly, so I prefer to do something else in my free time (like making music, playing games, etc).
* Weekends - I go out on the bike (20 miles +), or go and see friends.
I have music I've created, but thats about it - http://www.traxinspace.com/profile/marcnet . Nothing really dev-wise.
There is nothing much on my website, as I am still trying to put the foundation PERL scripts together (learning as I go) - http://marcnetsystem.co.uk/
EDIT:
Back in 2007-8 I wrote a program called HIMDRenderer, this basically converted Sony's OMA files into .WAV (or MP3, OGG, etc) using Sony's own Directshow COM objects. Also using a bit of hackery pokery to get stuff working. - http://forums.sonyinsider.com/topic/22268-new-himdrenderer-100-beta-4-updated-26022008/
Anway,
I work for a medium sized mobile workflow solutions company based in Newbury. I started out as a developer there as my first job doing c (NOT c++) for their (now) legacy product. This ran on Windows Mobile 5/6 and Win32. I needed to constantly refer to X86/ARM assembler to track down crashes in the field. IDA Pro is awesome.
I have worked there for 11 years, with around 6 of them as a Senior software engineer. Probably means nothing outside of that company. I still work there, btw, but wish a change for reasons I won't go into here (in case they're watching......)
It wasn't until 18 months ago that I worked on their brand new product, and have taken the tech-lead in several areas within that product. This new product is mainly C++. We've only used a few design patterns(Singleton, Bridge, Factory) so I am probably not familiar in using most of them...
This new product is multi-platform on Android, IOS, Windows and Windows Phone 8. Most of it is in C++, and the platform specific stuff is written in the native language for that platform.
It also uses the platforms web browser, so advanced javascript knowledge is also a key here.
Multi-threaded programming is where my expertise lay. Using both pthreads and native Win32 I can resolve concurrency problems, deadlocks, etc.
I also like writing documentation, whether it's pre or post implementation - I like the idea that I can make things easy to understand and follow
Anyway, I could go on... and I may apply If the answer to the following question is "yes"
Is it worth me applying?
If so, which role is most suitable?
Send your CV in and we'll take a look. Programmers or web development are probably the most likely areas for you.

If only you guys needed .NET developers...
I'm sure it would only take me a couple of weeks to get back in to PHP. Although I did it back in v4 when it was still mostly being used as a procedural scripting language.
Soon they'll be on v7! I probably have a bit of new stuff to learn.
I hear PHP even has classes now!
*grins*
Hi guys,
I have massive interest in the web development role, (I'm currently lead developer at an agency in Lincoln).
Obviously I'd have to move to Cambridge or the surrounding area, which is great because I was looking to move along, just curious as to if you could cater to this in terms of time scales.
This job sounds perfect for me as I have experience in almost all areas you're looking for, I'd just love to hear how fast you'd like to get people on board etc.
Lol,
Not following their instructions on how to apply seems to be a bad start!

Emailed my CV on monday - wish me luck!
