Frontier have anointed chosen ones again...

When I'm anointed, I'm going to be like this outside FD towers:

I was horrified, and mildly envious, when I seen this... A frickin streamdeck? Razor earbuds? As freebies? Seriously? #NotABribe?
Yeah, like we can totally expect unbiased and wholly impartial reviews now....

Yeah i thought it was just the collectors streamdeck, collectors display thing, collectors box, collectors mouse mat. I didn't notice the collectors razer earpods and collectors usb key :( Woe for collectors.

We are all aware of the offer

Lol massive assumption there. You may be aware of it; many, many others may not.

Also missing the point of the post entirely, which was about the idea of FDEV mouthpieces ignoring uncomfortable questions while cherry picking the obvious brain-dead ones that are simply an opportunity to repeat their marketing spin.

You may not like Drew... fine, but what I said was still a related example. The fact I'm referencing Drew makes no difference to it, aside from the fact that he's the one that said it. Literally anyone else could have and I'd be talking about them instead.

What else would you expect a marketing move to do - get all of the 'raving, foaming at the mouth' folk to represent them?
Provided the 'new batch' of 'representatives' are honest enough to include that they had been given 'sweeteners' by the developers all will be fine and their viewers can draw their own conclusions, surely?

Perhaps some big brain at FD Towers figured they'd rather give out swag to 50 low/mid lever tubers and twitchers than drop 10k on one streamer with a large following.

That's right, the larger streamers ask for money per stream. Are any of the elite people in that league yet? I watched a youtube video from a larger channel a few years back who admitted how much they get paid for a million views.. not sure about elite, but obsidian ant from his fs 2020 content would be starting to earn something reasonable now (guessing).

Apparently (so I was informed after making the same comment) he has a much bigger following elsewhere...

Where? Need to see this now.

Its an incredibly on point and well written article, the people rushing to the comments to prove the author right is the perfect footnote.
I am not disputing that, in the polygon & twinfinity thread where it first appeared I actually commented that it is fricking abhorant and absolutely ridiculous that this happens, and stated that I thought it is also tragic that such disturbed individuals tarnish the collective "gamer" image. So I'm not dissing the message, but your wording in this thread with the "vintage forum humour" reference was either a copy and paste or just a paraphrasing of your comments in the polygon/twinfinity thread.

You may not like Drew... fine,

Personal opinion of the person is irrelevant.

I don't like the influence some people seem to have or want. I may dislike their view of the game and be appalled at the though that they think they should have access. I may like it even less give the thread title....

The last time Drew did something in game he got death threats afterwards. I condemn these in the strongest terms.

Its because FD don't want ongoing commitments with ED- its why they favour proc gen / BGS because its all self contained and can have things injected into it. Having CGs / IIs, lore, Galnet etc is a drag. Its also telling only ED has these elements, no other FD game has them (or had them for long).

This seems likely to me. It will be interesting to see if they can ever get procedural generated events/stories to work. :)

Cheers,

Drew.

I expect all of those features to return by Odyssey's launch

The more you know. My guess is it wasn't a sponsored stream.
Yeah, BikeMan is another major streamer who is a fan of Elite. He was the one who convinced Cohh to stream it in VR (without even trying it in VR first, i.e. for the surprise) cos the extra setup involved can be somewhat of a hassle. Cohh's astonishment and amazement was funny to see in clips at the time.

CohhCarnage is a fan of Elite, he's played it plenty of times with his streamer mates, including in VR
I watch CohhCarnage every day, have done since Atlas was released and if I recall (and I'm paraphrasing here) while Cohh likes Elite Dangerous, he's not its biggest fan, and fairly criticises it for its faults.

Don't you wonder why Cohh or Bikeman are not playing Elite Dangerous on stream now? Burke Black is another I watch, and he recently commented on the Odyssey update and how Elite Dangerous had very little to do and Star Citizen had more to do than Elite Dangerous. When I was correcting him, he asked if I knew anything about Elite Dangerous ... so yeah :D

EDIT: If you're wondering why we are mentioning names like Cohh Carnage, Bikeman or Burke Black, they have stream viewers in the thousands

The answer was something like, "We're aware of the offer, but it's not just the writing that is the issue".

I was expecting the question to be ignored entirely, so even something as vague as that was surprising.
That's fairly similar to things they've said or hinted at before - writing the text is one thing, but then there's (since the "everything in Galnet must relate to something concrete in-game" bad decision) all the implementation work around putting things in game for it.

Writing articles which don't connect to in-game events, sure, that's probably just writing (+translation) ... but while I disagree with Frontier's decision not to have any of those, I do take their point that only having those is also ultimately unsatisfactory.

if ED isn't in part a testing platform for developing procedurally generated story telling. There are the seeds of it (no pun intended) behind satellite scans, tip offs and follow on missions.
Oh, the BGS already allows for plenty of procedurally generated stories - you just need to wait for them to happen and then draw a box around them afterwards.

The tricky thing about procgen stories is not causing them, but recognising their significance and drawing that box while they're happening, which is what's generally needed for them to obviously work in-game. I don't believe that bit can be automated.

(I mean, the Lugh War - back in Frontier's most interventionist stage for stories, in some ways - was basically just a procgen story that someone drew a box around on the forums, and then Frontier threw some custom support at)

I expect all of those features to return by Odyssey's launch
I hope they return ... until and unless Frontier explicitly confirm that they will, I expect them to suffer the same fate as every other "indefinitely suspended/delayed" feature the game has had over the years. (In which case, I'd prefer Frontier to at least admit to that and remove the interface elements for them!)
