Engineers Frontier needs to make finding materials much easier

What's the massive rush to unlock the highest Tier mods straight away...we're less than week into 2.1 and people are complaining they haven't got Tier 5 yet!!!

people are complaining cause they can't get a rate 3 because of the impossibility to find a material which doesn't show as reward in no mission after a long search.

Is it clear now?

Unfortunately I DO have something to add, which I did think I'd made perfectly clear, i.e. that I believe it to be a GOOD thing for the grind to take a while.
If the only people who responded in this thread were all in agreement with the OP, then FD might well get the impression that they need to respond to his wishes.
As such, it's highly appropriate for me to make my point that I think we're good as is.

And before you ask, I have NO upgrades on any of my ships as yet. Sure, I've been to my first 4 engineers and have started to gather materials, but I've got nothing as yet.
Again, and to re-iterate, i don't believe that it's a necessity to have to keep up with people who already have fully uprated ships. Play this game at whatever pace you're comfortable with and don't worry abou the rat race. It's a lot more enjoyable.

When you're going to gather materials for the improvment's module I'm sure we can have a nice discussion :)

I neither ask: but If I can't found a material because the mission who spawn it doesn't exist (to me at least) then something wrong.

If I wouldn't interested in Engeneer I would'nt have purchased the game...

you guys really need to understand the game is not about asking FD to give you everything.

you really look like someone playing "miner" asking Microsoft to provide a button to show where the mines are now.

the games gives you clues, that is all you need in a game about discovery and exploration. if you don't like doing these things why you bought the game?

I've had trouble finding some of the materials, and the limit makes it frustrating, but that's not a huge issue.

I have more of a problem with the commodity requirements and no storage options. I've had to sell several important commodity materials just because I wasn't ready to use them yet, and didn't have the space to lug them around. Commodity storage is necessary if they're going to make it required for upgrades... Or at least let us turn them in to the engineers early for credit.

Hello, sorry for my Google langage.

I still think there's a little balancing to do, it is still very very tedious is long.

But mainly, edit full information on planetary exploration. I know you have a good guide on this forum, but I'm French and I do not understand anything. I must not be alone.

With a contribution of this magnitude, we must avoid above all that players get discouraged and abandon advantage of the game. See attendance curves ....

I rejoiced in but it is still objectively a bit too long for many players with limited playing time. There is little decently not ignored.

* A sentence is not in place and may construe to confusion, he had to understand that I rejoiced the complexity and long-term, non-attendance curve.

But, presumably NOT THAT LONG...as 2.1 hasn't been out a week yet...

I did start a good debate though :)

..and I did ask for help, had some great folks on this forum give me some advice. helped a bit. only thing that still gets me is the nav sites. I get attacked by several ships every time I go to one. no cargo, no bounties, 99% with all factions...maybe im a laser magnet?

there are 2 reasons I can think of for FD to make finding resouces/materials for mods easier.

1. so people with normal lives can play 2 hours a day and get somewhere. I spent from 8am till now (1am) yep 17 hours today..im tired. looking for conductive components. no luck..i wasted 17 hours and had to sell my samarium to try nav sites as someone suggested so I don't get attacked. I still got attacked..no cargo ships either.

2. there are soo many posts on this site from people who need to find materials and cant as they are stupidly impossible to source, less posts would make following posts easier.

please FD listen to this ease up on the insanity...

+1 fully agreed

Then bounty-hunt wanted freighters in regular space, you get conductive components from T7/9's usually and you'll see plenty kicking around, or you could target the same ships in an anarchy with an interdictor if you don't want to deal with regular pirates :) Boom states have extra freighters so its a good idea to look for one of those too.

I agree with your points overall btw just conductive components isn't the best example, the various rare elements and firmwares are the unicorns (and have very little indication where they exist) everything else piles in pretty quickly

seriously though modified consumer firmware(common data) drops from ship wreck USS and base datapoints and pois ive done over 100 bases and USS in a 20ly circle around wyrd and have found one in 4 days with over 60 hours played i have also checked for missions that have it as a reward and havent seen 1 and this is just for a t2 upgrade to gt more rep with the dweller sorry guys but the droprates are trash

I've dropped into tons of signal sources and scanned the private beacons and I have yet to get 1 specialized legacy firmware. This is pretty ridiculous.
Would you prefer it that every USS you drop into miraculously has the very thing you are looking for? If not, perhaps you could specify a ration of how often it should magically have what you want.

I don't know how many of these new resource types there are in total. Perhaps they have the drop rate too low. Perhaps it would be too much to expect some sense to the RNG. Like certain materials having a higher percentage of dropping if it was the site of a destroyed Imperial ship, because Imperial ships are constructed with alloys with more of 'X' in them. Destroy those, or find them, and have a better chance of getting what you want. That would be way of taming some of the RNG.

some you find a lot , and some almost none , both being marked as common. so or the discription is off or the "drop" rate

Not easier, but more consistent. There is enough RNG in the game now. Special stuff being only available as a mission reward makes me crazy. a) for finding the appropiate missions-spawning-systems and b) it´s too time consuming in general. Not mentioning not having a personal storage somewhere, which reduces jumprange and adds some more risk of being interdicted.

I'm mostly fine with the loot drops, it's the firmware I have issues with. They can only be found in one situation, it can take far longer to even get a chance at one, and it's only one, and it might not even be the one you want. The ship scan data is also fine as I can just get those during SC or if I really wanted to, camp outside a station. Those come fast enough I don't mind. But I cannot stand for spending over an hour to try and take out a base for a very high chance of walking away with absolutely nothing.

I agree 100%. I have the time to play all I want (Retired), but I HATE "Fetch Quests" with a passion! And that is all this Engineer's Materials stuff is! Give us the option to BUY what we need, or earn it through missions or something!

I have picked up a few items here and there through missions, but they are few and far between.

If FD wants the community at large to actually USE this add-on they worked so hard on, and made us wait so bloody long for, they need to make it EASIER/FASTER to gain the required materials.

Considering there is no guarantee your favorite Engineer's Slot Machine is going to turn up all BARS for you, the process of even getting to that unpredictable conclusion should not be this arduous exercise in tedium!

If your first exposure/attempts at an Engineers upgrade don't go well, as was the case with me, there is very little motivation to repeat the tedious materials gathering process. I certainly have not bothered to try it a second time, and never will unless FD makes some much needed improvements to the entire process. Not just the materials fetch quests, but the results you get at the end of that tedious easter egg hunt!

As I said....

Finding stuff is easy, provided you look in the right place...

Looking for arsenic?

Well. It's a non-metal mineral... Now. There would you find that naturally occurring (hint: not on a metallic or ice asteroid...)

You know that would seem to make sense but the distribution of certain elements and minerals in the game doesn't really follow the same pattern as the real world. Arsenic is usually found as a metalloid so there's no reason you wouldn't find it on a high metal content world.

Arsenic is listed as common out of the very common, rare and very rare materials. The problem there is when you find a rocky world it can have 3 commons out of 8 common materials. You have to land and start prospecting to find out what common materials you'll find along with all the very common materials, the rares and very rare you'll find. If you don't find arsenic is it because you haven't looked enough or do you take off, find another planet and hope you find it on the next planet?

That's why that thread about using the DSS to find materials has an overwhelmingly positive poll to use the DSS for surface prospecting. It shouldn't pinpoint the materials but it should give an idea what you'll find on the surface.
