Frontier, since 3.0 is not soon, pls put module, and material limits up now, thx.

It would only take extra time. Updating a huge game like this, with all its numerous interacting systems, is not that simple.

Yeah it's not just extra time. The changes in mat storage and extra module storage has been tested with the new code base that includes all the other updates and any problems that happened, for instance there were a couple of problems with modules not being named correctly I think, could translate over into the live servers if they were to introduce the mat and module storage changes separately in the current live code base, because the fixes may not necessarily have been anything to do with the updating and changing of the storage. They would have to beta test it to check for any problems, pulling developers and testers away from the current update schedule. Then if it did cause problems they would have to then devote time to working out what was happening in the soon to be obsoleted live code base, fixing all that, then a couple of weeks later replacing the entire lot.

Just a huge waste of time, money and effort and a possible delay in the release of the new code base. So no, lets not go there.

Not to mention the extra pizza deliveries required !

That would cool if they did, but I doubt.

I'm thinking of threatening to rage quit again if they don't release the Krait soon.

Is it true that module limits require an update?

I only ask because due to a rebuy fiasco I lost some modules. Support returned them and for a short while I had more than 60 modules in storage...

Developer time is better spent to have such code changes contained within a new version with a mass of changes rather forking out a new build of the 2.4 series in addition to ensuring the code works properly in the 3.0 series.

I don't want to sound rash, but there's nothing in our code that allows us to do 'handwavium-coding', or fork out a new build to live whenever we please. Everything is executed as per Jira tickets and overseen by team leads.

wait, what? the storage limit per commander is "Code" ?
its not a single number somwhere in a database?

You still need 'code' to query the number and to compare it to the your number and make a decision whether to allow you to store a new item.

Theoretically the module limit could just be a value change, but the mat change in 3.0 is to move from a single 'total mat count' limit to a 'per material' limit with different values depending on the mat grade. That's not just changing a value in a db.

Which is a good reason why you might not use a db field for limits like this - it means a db change as well as a code change if you want to refine how they work.

Your "Minecraft"? Typo perhaps and you meant Mindcraft? I'm just reading a book from a contemporary Philosopher (David Richard Precht). It deals a lot with dislocated self-appraisal. Highly recommended... ;)

By the way, I'm no programmer, just a permanent involuntary beta-tester since more than 4 years now. I just googled about it and roughly learned what 'Jira' is... and then I looked at the galaxy map and saw it's full of stars, then at the game which always was and still is full of minor bugs and then a semi automated bug management system. And now I wonder whether there's a connection... :p
Dislocated self-appraisal? That sounds exactly like Precht!

Well, you know what they say... You are what you eat. I like a good rib eye now and then.

I have been throwing away grade 1 and 2 Data/mats since Beta now when I want to synthesise anything I haven't got low grade items.
By the way I wasn't that stupid that I didn't keep some, but I went to the engineers and used them.

JIRA? Real hardcore devs run their own Phabricators :D

Seriously though, I hope it is not cloud version, because that gets constantly DoSed.

I've a funny feeling these last couple of posts have got me to Elite .... I've suddenly noticed a change in my 'status'

Edit ... apparently it happened 43 posts ago  .... Only another 5957 to go to the Double hehe !
