Frontier Store

You dion't need to take them off :). If you buy them once, you can attach a copy of them to any ship in your fleet.

Each ship has four places (two on the left, two on the right) where you can display the ship's name and its ID. Ship's name, as said, has max 22 characters and is filtered (for inapproriate words), ID has 8 (IIRC) characters in a larger font.

The plates are purely cosmetic, though - your ship's name is also shown to other CMDRs on the communications panel. But a lot of people who are playing in open use them.

Best picture I have available at the moment - paint health is pretty far down, don't know by how much, so the ornamentation on name and ID has worn off, only the lettering is still clear:

I LOVE how the paint scratches up on ships. I want my explorer ship coming back into the bubble looking ravaged!

I love the weathered look on your paint job, looks cool. Is that a paint scheme we can pick, a weathered worn down one?

Defiantly the first thing I'll buy is the nameplates and maybe a flightsuit. Will wait a while before jumping into the paint jobs.

Available free of charge at the outfitter in Hutton Orbital :D

Ok, don't want to throw you off the game at the start: Hutton Orbital in Alpha Centauri is the station farthest from the entry point, 0.22 ly. Flying in supercruise will deteriorate your ship's paint, and the trip out there is long enough to bring it down to 0%.

lol ill take your word for it, hopefully it isn't something nasty I will be running into.

I had no idea! I'm assuming you can get a repaint at the station if you want to restore that "like new" look, yes?

In theory, yes. In practice, there is or was a bug that prevented this, forcing you to buy a new ship instead. I'll look into this when I come near a station - maybe in three months or so....

So if paints "weather", do ships retain their scorch marks after battle? A favorite scene from ST3 was Enterprise returning home after battle with Khaan, and everyone in the space port gasping when they saw the damage.
