Frontier...?

Notice how easily it is to make your narrative fit ED.

Ironic, as I was actually trying to post something positive about ED, but in typical fashion ED's most ardent supporters have to tear down anything that is remotely seen competition. You in particular remind me of this quote, "He uses statistics like a drunken man uses a lamp post, more for support than illumination."
Wut. I was correcting your historical writeup of NMS post-launch updates. I don't understand the reason for your salty reply.

If you don't like being corrected, improve your game knowledge so you don't post false info and have to resort to insults in frustration.

You have a history of using numbers and stats to make ED appear to be the best game ever (posting Steam charts when they are high vs low), yet you'll use the very same tactics in reverse to make NMS seem like a failure (or at least "less" of a success). This tactic can easily be flipped on its head to make ED seem like the failure and NMS seem like a huge success. It's disingenuous, a double-standard. "If you torture the data long enough, it will confess."

EDIT

Posted before I saw warning. SORRY. My OP to this thread is about the benefit of action over talk, so hopefully that is on-topic.

Incorrect again: I've never once said or implied that Elite Dangerous is "the best game ever", using Steam stats or otherwise - that would require fabricating Steam stats to place Elite Dangerous in the top5 played games.

Getting back on track, the radio silence on updates, apart from the vague "2020 is the next major milestone" date is disheartening.

Like the OP said, announce the new forum, the new Tracker system, announce more QOL and time spent on squashing the known bugs. Talk about the new, smaller features coming between now and 2020, so that people don't feel like the game is on hold.

They are working on a new IP, supposedly at the same time as the 2020 updates, but this new IP is their own, not tied to a movie/book/franchise, so it needs to be good to stand a chance of being successful and with the silence on ED, people will wonder if the ED resource is being used to support that also

If people start feeling like the game is on hold, that's their problem to deal with and shouldn't expect Frontier to sit around the camp fire with them, telling stories of ED's development progress.

They'll announce upcoming changes when they have something to announce.

"the people who fix the bugs are not the people who do the forum", tsk, tsk.

it's not about people but about will. they have plenty of people, they just don't give a damn and 'prioritise' other more lucrative stuff. is just work ethics are that low anb customers at large being apparently fine with that. times! now you know, op.

I strongly doubt they don't care. I mean crikey I think they make some bad calls at times and certainly make mistakes but not care?
Silence and lack of visibility doesn't mean nothing is happening - frustrating as it is we'll just have to wait and see what they say and what they do.
In the meantime the game is still actually fun, rough edges and all :)

I see where you're coming from - an idea of what is happening, why QA have vanished, what ideas they are looking info for forum / bug tracker / game updates would all be nice and of interest.

But - that's not how fdev rolls, they stay quiet, finish stuff, leak what it is, and ship it. That's how it's always been, and I don't see them changing - life is much sweeter if you accept that and get on with enjoying the game (or something else, if you must :) ).

Which is fine, but then they will have a lot more complain threads about not being told what is happening.

As you say, they will only create hype when they are ready, OK, but the last few times it has been "hyped", a lot of people felt the output was a let down. Players play in different ways, so at least by explaining what they are doing, not in minute detail, people would at least know something is happening.

Played this game since 1984 on my BBC B, I am a LTP member, hoping it would expand into something much more, but the lack of interaction with the fan base is a let down for some.

New forum page why....why is time being spent on updating forum page than looking into the constant issues & bugs with the game.!?

We all now know that updates wont be happening anytime soon, is frontier slowly closing down Elite, and continuing to not answer popular questions.
With new game development keeping frontier busy, Elite seems to be suffering delay and disappointment, and lacking any concentrated fixes to LONG term issues with the game.

I would of thought during this down time period upto 2020... That frontier would be fixing known and long term issues on mass, it would be the perfect time to down tools and group a dedicated Bug fixing team to go through every issue with the game...but will they.?
Do you honestly think that the people building the forums are the same people fixing bugs and creating updates for ED.

He's not happy about it for some reason.

Can't get away from player's sense of entitlement. It's like that in every game.
Which is fine, but then they will have a lot more complain threads about not being told what is happening.

Can't control player hype; imaginations run wild. Not Frontier's fault, not the player's fault - just is what it is.

And they do, and will as they always have.

It's not close to the level of interaction such as what we get from Digital Extreme's (Warframe), but very few developers are that invested in their community. How many developers would build a feature in their game that hides personal information for content creators and streamers?
That said, I feel the interaction is adequate.

Indeed.

I believe that their interaction with us is a large reason as to why they are so successful.
They really listen, they love, and they play the game as much as we do. (To be frank, I don't feel the same way about Frontier and Elite); watching Braben try to land that Eagle for example... those are the actions of an individual unfamiliar with the controls. Anyway, not relevant.)

I recall watching a documentary on DE a while back; and in it they talked about adding a feature that ended up costing a player a lot of money. The moment DE noticed it, they scrubbed the entire feature. Completely it removed from it from the game.

Back when Kubrows, virtual pets that help you on missions, were first introduced into Warframe, players could pay a premium currency called platinum to randomly generate a new fur pattern and different colours for it. The price was 10 platinum or about $US0.67 ($1). "We had a lever, basically, for all intents and purposes," Carter said in the interview. Players could pay the fee and then pull the lever to change their pet's appearance.

"And we saw, you know, a guy pull the lever like 200 times," Carter said. "And it's just like, 'oh my dear god, what have we done? We've created a slot machine.' And so you know, it was a couple days I think it took us to take it out — a day, day and a half. That one is a big regret."

He added that while the feature turned out to be extremely lucrative for the studio in this particular case, it completely went against what the intent of the Kubrows, and Warframe itself, was supposed to be.

Digital Extreme's community interaction is superb and a fantastic example for other gamedev companies to aspire to - I frequently recommend them to FDev in the hope that they'll gradually replicate their format.

Can't tell if you're being serious or not.
But if you are .. the guys that write/work on the website are not the same guys who work on Elite Dangerous. It's not even the same (programmming) language.
