Having very much the same problem here and it defo worked better before, something has changed. The system i'm relating to is Lalande 25224 but jumping from there not to it, charged up in the jet cone and with 161 LY Jump Distance, plotted my route. With jet cone boost enabled or not, it plots exactly the same route with 38LY jump distance to the next star which is 6LY less than it's standard max.
another weird thing but maybe not relevant to this problem is the B star in Lalande 25224 (PSR J2144-3933) sitting right next to it, when I search for it, it's like 600LY away from me according to the galaxy map.
Thought i'd check out a couple YouTubers plot guides I'd watched a while back and theirs works just as it should, just as i'd expect.

at 6:15 you can see the first leg of the journey is a straight route jump based on his boosted distance... and he used 'plot' not a direct route.
I've seen posts here saying to use direct route but that is a proper pain in the ar*e and can also leave you in trouble when you're somewhere you haven't been before and after all, what is the point in selecting 'Jet cone boost' when it plots exactly the same route..
I tried this with a fellow CMDR and he had exactly the same issue... surely it can't be just us... and the OP of this post
