FSS makes no sense

sigh The FSS is not a camera, what you're seeing is a display of the sensor data that ALL of your sensors are gathering and putting in there. That's what the whole "Energy Tuning" thing is about, locking into the specific energy signature of the object so you can zoom in and scan it proper.

This is why there is no restriction or pivot points, it's a virtual interface. Technically the DSS is too however the probes should be animated firing off a hardpoint or something instead of just appearing in front of your reticle but whatever.

Dude, it's a telescope.
It shows you a pretty picture of the planet.

The 'energy signature' stuff happens regardless of whether the body is obscured - you know it's an ELW and how far away it is - but you can't zoom if there's something in the way.

No it's not. It's a holographic system that is rendering data in a visual way for you to see with your human eye balls. Just because it can be obstructed doesn't mean it's a telescope, it means the sensors cant see the object to render it in detail, but the FSS still shows you the 'presence' of said object. The fact that it scans, populates data directly into your computer, it renders images and even has the effect of digitally enhancing said image when you take a scan. Hell it even has a "scan wave" animation in the back ground means you're looking through a display of sensor data NOT a telescope.

Like a telescope does ;)

Ahhh, so because it has a Snapchat filter it can't be a telescope o_O

No it can't be a telescope because of the fact it's mounted on an object traveling 30KM/S trying to view objects through a field that is distorting space time like it's a pretzel. A normal optical telescope is useless on a ship travel at FTL, not to mention counter intuitive to the fact you have FTL capable sensors to utilize. Like how do you not realize this?

The entire design of UI is to give the idea that you're looking at a scanner, that has both visual and auditory cues. How do you not understand this?

I must conclude you are trolling me.

Nope, not asking for 3rd person anything.

Read it again. I'm simply saying that if we have 3rd person in MP for weapon use, you have no chance of making your point stick and more importantly, actually have an effect or instigate change. forget it. move on.

But we don't have third person in MP for weapon use, and we're never going to.

It's a good job FDev don't listen to the forum for ideas. The game would be somehow even more dull than it already is.

OP, I'm sure your intentions are anything but well-meaning. But just actually stop for a moment and think objectively about what you're proposing. For a video game. Elite is a video game.

What on earth are you on about? Go play the game properly. The weapon interface is 3rd person perspective not first. either that, or keep trolling your own post.
