FSS stutter/lag

Anybody else find that the FSS refresh rate sucks? Makes quick scanning a pain when you keep overshooting targets due to the screen freezing for a second while it refreshes. Solid internet. No other types of lagging issues. Solo past the core on the way to BP.

Anyone else?

YES!

and im glad someone else has mentioned it because this is the 3rd bug report i've raised about it!

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/474853-FSS-Scanner-FPS-judder-issue

it really really grates on me ;(

And a hearty 'Phew' from me!! I thought it was a local system issue but, if others are having the same stutter, it ain't my PC..

Is it a controller type problem? Digital HAT vrs analog?

I use the analog thumb stick on the X-56 throttle and the process is very smooth.
No lags or jitters and is extremely fast. I've never bothered to use stepped zoom.

zoom in = stick forward
zoom out = stick backward
tune right = stick up
tune left = stick down

Regards

Xbox controller.
Left stick for panning.
Right stick for tuning.
Left and right triggers for zooming out and in, respectively.

It seems to freeze the screen during or right after one of those sensor-pulse animations that come down the screen and highlight the bodies. So, as I’m panning through the screen towards a blob, it’ll reliably freeze and then catch up after I’ve reached the blob, only to jump farther on the screen, resulting in an overshoot.

A pretty unwieldy description. Hope it makes sense.

*Now that I think of it, it’s right after I’ve zoomed back out of a body and started moving towards the next one. So the freezing must be linked to the refresh of the FSS screen after zooming back out of scanning a body.

I must say I have never experienced this - I use analogue tuning and movement and see no lag or stuttering. The only annoyances I have are the length of time for a surface feature scan to complete and the lack of biological feature information after closing the zoomed-in scan.

I only experience stutter and lag when I am continuing to scan while geo info for previous bodies downloads in the background or when I have a HUGE number of signals visible on the screen at once. I put down the stutter due to geo sites loading as maxing my connection because I am on a slow link here, and the stutter with a lot of signals down to the fact I play on a laptop, while while having the best last gen card from nvidia laptops have some limitations not present on a properly set up desktop gaming machine.

The lag for me always occurs when i'm scanning landable bodies. Non-landables are pretty smooth. Scanning around GG's with lots of landable moons is a stutter-fest.
I hope they get it fixed soon.

I get it on Xbox too.
On a related matter, the blue blob scan raster is way too slow as it scans down the screen. Really hinders quick scanning.

well im on Xbox with standard remote, and its laggy as hell, overshooting planets all the time as the screen dont follow your controller inputs straight away.

the system map is the same to be honest.

:(

^^^--- + rep, this is the explanation.

The jitter happens after you first start scanning landable planets and as varonica points out, the game client is doing some calculating in the background, working out where the Geo PoI's are going to appear on that body. It becomes increasingly noticable if you quickly scan a succession of landable bodies with geo PoI's.

it may be linked to FPS, on PC if you alter your FPS higher it loads the locations quicker too.

not sure if you can fix it on Xbox though.

I play in 100Hz and cannot really recall scan times longer than 10-12 seconds for the most crowded bodies (40+ signals).

Yeah i'm having that too.

The fps aren't somehow the issue. They run smoothly at ~110 fps even during those stutters. I've no idea why it haplens but i thought it has to be something on my end of machines :|
Glad i'm not the only one.

When exiting FSS and flying, no matter where i go, i don't have such stutters. Only during FSSing systems.
Thise bodies with geo-pois or bio-pois seems to be one reason, also fast scanning of many bodies one after each other cause it too.
That i have to wait up to 15 seconds per body before i see the amount of geo-/bio-pois is also annoying. Some state that the increased fps speed that up, but than i don't want to know how long somebody has ro wait with 60 fps ince i'm playing at around ~110 fps and it's slowing me down a lot. I don't know if it's true :/

I can see bio-pois as same as geo-pois after zooming in. So they are definitly there.
Discovered that myself yesterday, before that, i've checked all bodys via mapping :D
