Full ADMIRAL or KING rank to purchase a Fleet Carrier?

With a rebel yell? ;)

I agree. These carriers (afaik) aren't related to the Federation or Empire or any military for that matter. And I don't think Frontier would want to bring any more attention to the unfinished husk that is military rank progression.
This...

It should be "Triple Elite", that is a good measure since it is faction agnostic and supports the Pilots.
😀

Being an "admiral" or a "king" is a joke. I'd rather not yolk other aspects of the game to that lame design choice. How about an actual military career path Fdev?

I wonder how many respondents to this thread are only in favour of rank locking the FC behind a Full Admiral or King simply because they have already achieved that level?
I'm going to take a guess and say most of them. There might be someone who is in favour of locking fleet carriers behind Admiral and/or King who hasn't reached either rank yet, but they could either:
A) have no intention of buying a fleet carrier
B) Have plans to reach Admiral and/or King before fleet carriers are released

It's kinda like trying to rank-lock fleet carriers behind one (or more) Elite ranks to "limit the number of people who have them" or "make the ranks worth something" imo. There's a good chance that the credit requirements for the carrier will be so high that you'll end up reaching the required rank(s) before you actually manage to gather the necessary funds, making the rank locks completely arbitrary and pointless.

Also, for the record, my main account has both Admiral and King ranks, along with 2 Elite ranks. I am not in favour of rank-locking fleet carriers behind Elite ranks, and I am DEFINITELY not in favour of locking them behind navy ranks.

You know how like NPC pilots are much better at higher rank... I could see everyone having access to the carriers, but maybe their efficiency is corrolated to their respective rank. Mining carrier to mining rank, etc. ...though, idk how much the efficiencies would/might come into play.

I would love a CQC carrier.... sending out droves of drones... lol

This hypothetical feels more like something that would be used to lock off faction specific support vessels than the Fleet Carriers themselves.

So for the sake of an example; the Combat Support vessel, what ever it does, defaults to a Falcoun Delacy Manticore class Frigate, but for Admirals there is the option of the functionally identical but visually different Core Dynamics Agamemnon Class Destroyer and the Imperial Kings there is the Gutamaya Sublime Class Sloop

The only restriction to my buying a Personal Fleet Carrier (apart from credits) could be whenever they are released... I'm already an O.A.P so the buffers at the end of the line can't be that far away...

No unlock requirements, but fleet carriers are only sold in one system and it changes each week. Some weeks it'll be in Colonia or Witch Head.

While I'm not in favour of rank-locking the fleet carrier itself, I don't see a problem with rank locking sidegrades for the fleet carrier or its support ships (provided that they are indeed sidegrades).

To expand on the example you gave, the Manticore could have a main battery consisting largely of capital ship-grade point defence turrets, while the Agamemnon and Sublime would use the anti-capital ship weapons of their respective navies (think of the Farragut and Majestic with their broadside cannons and railguns).

How about so the rest of the galaxy does not have to put up with a bunch of very difficult or impossible-to-destroy Fleet Carriers being flown by Harmless-ranked Commanders?
Fair comment but it is unlikely that a 'harmless' rank cmdr would be able to afford one anyway. If that were possible, FD's quest to add more grind to what is still nevertheless a wonderful game would be defeated.

Love it... Guess you wouldn't want anything being piloted by Harmless rank commanders other than a sidey, LoL!
The don't get 'flown' and are indestructible, so no PvP value there either... Never mind...

Although I could imagine the outrage... Harmless n00b ganked me in their Fleet Carrier!

I think it would be a better limitation, require to have an Elite rank. That woul be agnostic from the point of view of super powers (in game), being easier for the devs, and from the point of view of the way of playing the game (combat, trading, OR exploration) not forcing anyone to do something, or follow a career they hate, to buy a carrier.
