Full cross-platform support is now within reach - time to get developing it for Elite please devs :)

Yes please. I'd like to put my X52 and voice controlled ship against gamepads with twelve whole buttons.

Oh and steady 60fps everywhere. ;)

I would put the reaction speed of good button mapping against voice attack any day. It's much quicker to press a button (even to press 2 buttons in combo mapping) then it is to utter some phrase or word to do the exact same thing. Sincerely, a dirty console pleb.

I'm quite happy with my DS4, rear button add-on pack, and my extremely idiosyncratic set of controller mappings.

I beat a more experienced HOTAS pilot last night. The trick is to spend an unhealthy amount of time practicing pew pew pew.

I own hotas and will probably switch only when I get a VR capable PC.

Following (the VERY popular) Fortnite's successful push to pressure Sony to adopt full cross-platform play (PC/PS4/Xbox/Switch) after Microsoft & Nintendo had already agreed to it, gamers have been waiting for signs that smaller-population games are allowed to also.

Psyonix have announced today that Rocket League too now supports players on all platforms playing together (party support to come later): https://www.rocketleague.com/news/full-cross-platform-play-now-live-in-rocket-league/

I hope this means you all at FDev will start, or already have started, developing the feature for Elite Dangerous, and bring all CMDRs together for co-op and PvP fun times :)

Too bad Rocket League is full of thieves. Had an experience involving Rocket League, and 17 year old kid in Minnesota who is now serving 10 years for multiple charges including Credit Card fraud, theft of services and several other charges. I have zero sympathy, hope he makes a lovely prison bride, and will never have anything to do with Rocket League. Gotta have those loot boxes though, right?

As for Fortnight... I played it, once. It sucked. I don’t get the appeal. But if that’s your thing... whatever. Just don’t try to steal other peoples’ Credit cards and try to impersonate someone else’s account, you may wind up in the same federal penitentiary.

wasn't it technically no issue to have ED cross platform? especially with the XBox version.

i remember the discussion when there was an accidental cross platform connection - just can't remember what game it was that sparked it, and when it was.

When Fortnite Battle Royale first launched it was "accidentally" full cross-platform: PC, Xbox & PS4 could all play together. A "mistake" swiftly corrected by Epic within a day.

I got a PS4 two months ago although I am primarily a PC played and have been playing games like Elite on the PC for years.

I was thinking of getting ED:H for the PS4 (hopefully one day PSVR) but is it worth it considering what I have read in this thread?

Just askin'..............

Hmm. Dunno what to say to that. I'm looking to build a PC, and keep the PS4 account for exploration.
But if cross platform came to be...

YMMV!

If I had a proper PC gaming rig I doubt I'd play the PS4 version. (I am PS4 only right now)

It's a bit less ganky in open I suspect though due to fewer players. Mostly the PvP'ers stick around shinrarta and gank each other, occasional seal clubber in eravate

If you use the PS4 a lot and maybe have some other reason, like it's on a bigger screen than your PC... sure why not?

Also note I am very biased towards open/CMDR interactions so the difficulty in finding other CMDRs without scripting skews my opinion a great deal

If you're into PvE then PS4 probably just as good as PC

EDIT - if you have VR then PC is a no brainer 100% winner I bet

I only half agree with all this cross platform hype.

Yea its nice to be able to connect with the whole player base and see people from consoles and that.. BUT.. it comes with its own set of disadvantages.

Sea of thievs has pc players on xbox. I if you have played on xbox and come across pc players boy do you know it!

Often they are running aim bots and can cannon you in the face from far away consistantly. They can crack off head shots and blunderbuss face blasts with ease. Thay have much more diverse and accessible chat options and can comunicate amougst them selves and other alied pirates much faster that you can on a console.

All of this has lead to the experiance feeling very unfair and you van never trust if you got done over buy skill or hardware or some pc cheating scum bag.

I alredy see the hardware sode of this amoungs the pc comunity with faoff reletive mouse and voice attack and macros. You put that up against a console player and they are at a disadvantage not of there own making.

Choice! There must be choice! You should be able to opt in or out of cross platform! I dont want to be winning a pvp fight cus my oponenet has a hardware disadvantage unless they are happy they got the skills with there controller to beat me with my HOTAS and keybord and head tracker.

It ruined my sea of thives experiance and i dont want it to ruin elite. And it doesnt have to as long as people are given a choice!

For those involved in PvP hardware advantages may be significant, but not all PC players have ALL of the advantages , more importantly I (consol player) rarely get involved in PvP and I play almost exclusively in OPEN. The vast majority of my other commander interactions are collaborative not combative, and MOST of the game play available (anything other than PvP) the hardware differences are moot, and where they're not the law of diminishing returns would suggest I'd be unlucky to come up against them anyway. By all means give us the option to Flag cross play or not, but I don't think hardware differences should be considered as a significant obstical.

FYI, if you're just looking into ED for PS4 for the VR aspects, you can actually implement VR for ED on PC rather cheaply with WMR headsets. They're pretty inexpensive, compared to Vive/Oculus/Pimax and unless you're really looking for detail comparisons it will get you near the same experience anyway.

I bought a Lenovo Explorer a while back, and it's awesome. I'm waiting for the "high end" more expensive headsets to get more traction with more AAA titles before I bother with sinking $500++ into just VR alone.
