Funny Pirate Story -- Must Read

You know the drill. Interdict, chase, damage, low hull, "Okay I'll stop, what do you want", "drop half cargo", "okay... can I go?", "yes. Thanks. Bye!"

However... this was an interesting turn...

I deployed cargo scoop and proceeded to collect the rares. After about the third one.... I position myself for the next grab. As I'm turning up to grab it, I see the type 6 going full speed right at me with a boost. He went by just inches from my canopy and skated past. I believe he was using heat sinks and FA with all other systems off... radar said so anyway, that's why I didn't see him (Actually thought he was a cop coming in but still wasn't close enough for sensors to pick up).

Anyways, I'm shocked out of my mind he tried to ram me to death (have 20 tons of rares from previous heist) and a little shaken I was surprised/ambushed so easily. Rather than kill him out of rage (which would have been within my rights), I did the gentlemanly thing and simply said "nice try, you almost got me, scared me to death. don't do it again". After all, he was im stealing from him... fair enough, no need to be a drama queen or a "respect ma authoritay!!" type of pirate.

Well, rather than say "shucks, it didn't work"... he tries to do it again. I easily dodge with lateral thrusters and send several seconds of beam lasers at his ship. "Last warning man. Don't make me kill you".... He does it again.... and rather than kill him, I work on the thrusters of his ship which were already damaged from earlier. Took about 4 seconds to put him out. As he is spinning off into the abyss of space, I send him the last message "I'm sorry about that. I didn't want to do it. You forced me to. Think about that as you press that self destruct button." I leave him a dead stick and proceed to pick up the remaining cargo. As I pick up the second to last one... I hear "BOOM".... he hit the button in shame.

I truly love ED. No game has given me such player interaction and immersion as this game!!! Wearing the oculus rift dk2... it was like I was sitting in a real ship as a real space pirate. Truly legendary!!!

Thanks for listening!

P.S. Not all pirates are psychopaths

Much that it might suck to be pirated, it IS a part of the game and that is a good story.

+1 rep from me, which you will have earned if you continue to be a gentleman pirate :)

All pirates are psychopaths

It's what people will see.

Sorry.

Man you must have ssed him off something fierce. I'm sure we'll see a post about it and how this game needs to have separate instances for pirates. ;-)

I'd never have thought to try ramming someone as revenge, and in a Type 6 brick! lol

+1

I look forward to the next instalment :)

Victim is awesome for their stealthy attempt to kill you. Should've at the very least stopped after the second attempt, however.

Also nice of you to let the first attempt slide.

Great story. I love how in ED encounters like that can take a surprising turn.

But I find it interesting how some (mostly pirates) justify their criminal ingame activities and atrocities:
Rather than kill him out of rage (which would have been within my rights), I did the gentlemanly thing...
"I'm sorry about that. I didn't want to do it. You forced me to."
Makes me wonder if you have just adapted to the pirate role so perfectly and those words are "in character" or if you (aka the person playing ED) actually thinks its your right to kill anyone in rage who doesn't obey to what you say etc... ?

(The above is not an argument pro or contra pirating in ED. Obviously, pirating is meant to be part of the game and that's a good thing. I'm just curious about the motivations and mindset of pirates, that's all.)

Great read, thanks for sharing. I'd give you rep but the forum won't let me as I've already repped you recently apparently. So here's a space cookie :D

If someone tries to kill you, I think it's ok to defend yourself.

That comes more from a "you dare defy me!... I am superior!!!... eat lead/space lasers/missiles/bombs!!!!"

Common reaction from the powerful when dealing with the meek.

I try not to kill if I can avoid it. Killing simply because they "defied" my orders...well, I'd be on a war crimes tribunal already for genocide, haha. I kill for the big stuff. Refusal of cargo... firing on me... asking me a clear stall question (which piece of cargo would you like exactly... when I said HALF... not 1... HALF), also for not leaving when I tell you to leave (my newest rule, I'm sure you can guess why, lol)

If someone tries to kill you, I think it's ok to defend yourself.

Ahem well... "defend"?
And what if that someone just robbed you of all your stuff and threatened to kill you if you don't comply?

Real world example:
If some armed criminal decides to mug you in the street to rob your wallet and you decide to resist or even fight back* he has the right to "defend himself" and kill you?

*I'm not saying it's clever to do so.

If someone tries to kill you, I think it's ok to defend yourself.

After you got robbed... that logic.

If there is no other way to defend yourself, why not try to use your whole ship? Makes sense to me... and it nearly worked!

Okay, understood! :D

Well, I'd much prefer to run into you and get robbed (or not) rather than one of those guys who blindly kill any other player at sight. Sadly, there aren't too many honorable pirates out there anymore...
Perhaps there could be something like an (inofficial) pirates guild, where members pledge to follow a certain sets of rules when pirating? Not sure if that would be helpful.

It really did. Though, I don't know if he would have died or I would have. I have excellent shields and I have survived rams before. However, I learned from the encounter. After being pirated by me, you are ordered to leave the area within 20 seconds or face death. This is for my safety.
