Galaxy map routing too slow? Elite Copilot has quick routing and voice navigation!

The cache file is a ".z" file which winrar thinks is an archive. It isn't of course because winrar complains when it tries to open it. Does it need to be extracted? The tool seems to work without it being there.

A bit of humour - the voice interprets G. as gram so 1 G. Caelis gets announced as 1 gram sealy.

I like this as it doesn't need the Galaxy Map so no need to remember weird spellings and simply click on listed names within distance. Better if you could achieve it to select the name too but that's complex to read graphics and not in pilots control fully.
Why are you using Vocals by the way, is it because of the VoiceAttack app volume bug? They fixed that in a Beta version.
Contact FD and get hired. They could include a co-pilot GUI sitting in spare seats in those ships.

Make a Linux version of this and I can run it without tabbing anywhere (yay for many monitors, and more than one computer).

It will get extracted by the app on the fly, I'll put that in the installation instructions, since it's not obvious at all, thanks for pointing it out!

This is great work :) what do I have to change in the ini file to get Ivona to work with the program?
Cheers

The easiest way would be Win-R -> %windir%\SysWOW64\Speech\SpeechUX\sapi.cpl and then set Ivona as your standard.

You can also set speech.ini to be

[Voice]
id=1

if Ivona is your 2nd voice in Windows.

Discovered a slight problem. My jump distance is 14.5 ly but I just entered 14 into the field (lazy) and it told me to go to a location that was 14.8 ly. If I enter 14.5 then it routes correctly, i.e. doesn't try to send me to the 14.8 ly destination. Seems that if you enter a number with no decimal place such as 14 then it will consider a destination up to 14.99 as within reach. Oops.

Also, was surprised to see that Wolf 1122 is not in the database, yet it is close to Chemaku which is in a really well-populated area of the galaxy.

Thanks mate, had already tried changing the ini. I have windows default/Microsoft Anna/ and IVONA AMY listed. Will have a play around and try again.

Once again, thanks you. This is perfect for Rift users

That wins my current route planner, gratz :) Are you using some sort of precaching?

Indeed I am. Every week or so I run a script (which runs for about 30 minutes) which creates the ..cache...z file that you downloaded, so that the app has a bubble of x (= currently 28) LY around every system in the database so all the neighboring systems can be checked quite fast for possible routes!

Like I responded on FB, I'm looking into it. Strangely enough, the code already makes sure it sees the entered value as having decimals places. It could be an error in the systems database, which everyone is encouraged to improve at http://edstarcoordinator.com/ !

It just happened that way. I initially was just looking for a "quick win" for voice commands and saw the Vocals post on Reddit. Since I didn't know if I'd keep using it, I didn't want to spend money right away. Vocals did the job well enough, so I never felt I really *need* to spend the $$ on Voice Attack.

If someone wanted to gift it to me (or donate me the 8$ (I think?)) I think I'd still switch though ;), it seems to have quite a wealth of neat functions!

Let me know how it goes. I theoretically could make an interface for it, but that's time I'd prefer to invest in other areas of the app. Maybe selecting the first voice that doesn't have "Microsoft" in the name might be a quick option though..

Bloody marvellous! However its a shame that FD can't do this on their own, and we need to install 3rd party apps to get a function like this in the game.
I really hope they give you some credits and make this a part of the game.

Cheers and standing applause to you Sir!!!

@777Driver - I actually just went ahead and did that: Elite Copilot will, from the next release on, use the first non-Microsoft voice in the system if you don't have a speech.ini file!

just downloaded v0.28, it works great, I just can't see letters on the buttons:

Oh snap, that hasn't happened for many people yet it seems. Do you run an unusual color scheme in Windows maybe? I think I'm setting the button text to be black, so I could see this happen if you configure your windows buttons to generally be black, is that the case by any chance?

Hi, the color scheme is set to default (sRGB IEC61966-2.1) (WCS profile for sRGB viewing conditions) and I'm running Win7 Home Premium 64-bit (6,1, Build 7601)

Thanks for the response - I looked and found a line of suspicious code that might cause it on your end. V0.29 will probably fix it for you, I expect to release it within a day.

So if I understand correctly, this can only plot jumps through and to already mapped sectors by other pilots? Guess explorers are out of luck.

1) Any chance your tool could keep the next system centered in the visible portion of the list?So if I have a route with some 50 jumps in it, I can always see where I need to go? Just resizing the window isn''t always enough.

2) would it be possible to include the distance in the overview as well?

3) Also your tool gives me routes through several systems in the "hydrae sector", but these doesn''t seem to exist ingame?! Where your routing tool thinks this sector should be is actually the crucis sector. Probably not a lot you can do about this, but any chance you know how to get them checked/removed? http://edstarcoordinator.com/ doesn't seem to mention a way to have faulty systems removed?

Very good points! I'll work on scrolling the list accordingly for the next update. Including the distance might take a little longer since I'm actually reading the list itself to check for routing progress, but it can be done with a little extra effort. I was thinking about that before.

The non-existent hydrae sector is an odd one! I think I ran into something like that once when exploring. Maybe there's a contact form on the EDSC page? For the time being, you can of course always have the Copilot "avoid next waypoint" so it ignores those hypothetical systems. In the long run of course, that should be taken care of the proper way!

Unfortunately, yes. To do more, it would have to read the system files / running E: D, and thus violate the TOS. I'd rather not do that for (fairly) obvious reasons.

Fun things to do with the log of your previous jumps:

(Can't get it to run standalone yet, sorry :/ )

Hi, just wanted to say I have started using this tool over the past few days and it has been fantastic. Thanks for all the work on it. Hopefully Frontier will contact you to integrate it into an updated Galaxy map, which would be very cool. This and TradeDangerous (running my own local database) have turned into my "must have" pilot assist tools.
