GALNET - 19 FEB 3307 - Lakon Spaceways HQ Moves to Alioth System

I'm not accepting that Lakon lack the resources to move into, or build, a nicer HQ. They must have received billions - probably trillions - of credits from the Alliance in order to build the Chieftain family. Not to mention purchase fees from Commanders who have brought Lakon hardware.

I've never brought into the whole 'Lakon is poor' part of this narrative. There's been no prior events to even suggest such a thing and then Poof! Their poor folks! Its been put into the narrative to help push forward the failed takeover by Core Dynamics. This is a galaxy where any single Commander with a Sidewinder can purchase cheap mining equipment and make millions in ice rings within an hour. The concept of 'poor' for an entire ship manufacturer just doesn't ring true to me in this game at present.
The story doesn't claim that Lakon got in trouble because they weren't selling enough ships. The Galnet articles claim "financial mismanagement" and "economic instability" - the latter being the same phrase that was used to describe the market upsets that produced the big mining nerf. Who knows, maybe Lakon had all their corporate reserves tied up in LTD futures. Certainly a few carrier owners lost their shirts that way!

Faulcon DeLacy actually has 14 ships, as they own Zorgon Peterson.
Also I'm fairly sure just the amount of Vipers, Cobras, Pythons and Anacondas across the galaxy would outnumber Lakon's total ship count by several factors.

Not saying Lakon is poor (and frankly I think this entire story arc makes little sense), they're the second largest after all.

They're going bankrupt trying to R&D the fix for the Asp Scout

Sure, Lakon have just moved the sofa in, sure, maybe there will be a CG - but if that's the case, why dump the outpost there now? We all know any 'Help Lakon extend their facilities' CG won't fail anyway, so why not add a new, city-sized plantery base now and be done with it already? People say they have underground facilties - in that case why would any faction even bother with the larger bases then? Building on the surface would actually be cheaper and far quicker.

And in terns of number of ships built, Lakon are bigger.

Faulcon deLacy: 10 ships (including 1 fighter)

Lakon : 12 ships
Because I don't think that outpost WAS built by them. I think that is a preexisting complex, that only just has the Lakon name plate put up and their permanent facilities haven't even broken ground yet. I think this outpost is the equivalent of setting up shop in temporary trailers outside of a big plot of land that's still empty because you haven't built the huge HQ yet.

At least god I hope so. But you're right, Lakon has the money to build a planetary city and even a station if they really wanted to and it better reflect that. I'm going to be pretty ed if they stay in this rinky-dink outpost facility.

Maybe what we see is only their Admin block and the facility itself is elsewhere...
(Although it seems that when buying from remote stations etc. that they must 3D-Print ships rather than hold unlimited stocks available in the blink of an eye)

It doesn't seem to have been there before. One benefit to those standard plan outposts is that, as we know from however many CGs, with enough building fabricators you can throw one together practically overnight. Longer term, I'm sure they'll commission a fancy office building from some prestige architect, that we'll hear described in a Galnet post but never see because it's on an Earthlike planet.

I had to build one when they were on 'special offer' 'coz I'm an idiot...

I couldn't even sell it to my "fresh from the starter zone" friend... I don't remember exactly what he said to me, but it did end with "OFF!"

Yep. Put in a bigger FSD, some more hard points, better internals, make the hull less "wonky"...

That ought to do it.

Ah, so kinda the same as "no" then....?!

My lawn, get.. ?

Leave it out sunshine...

No, that is my other 'friend'...
He's still a bit antsy when I stole his lawn from under his nose a week or two ago - the lengths he went to to get it back were epic! :devilish:

I still want it back you bar steward!

Shouting "get off my brazilian" just doesn't quite cut it with the kids - they think I'm talking about football.
