Title: Fuel Rats announce plans for Forward Operation Base near Jaques
When: Anytime
Where: Galaxy-wide GalNet

Earlier today the Fuel Rats Mischief announced early stage plans for setting up an extraction and refinery outpost near Jaques Station.

"We were considering the possibility of such a base for quite a while now. Originally the idea was to set it up near Sagittarius A* since it's one of the most visited regions by explorers. The biggest problem was always the supply with vital commodities like food or complicated spareparts. The vincinity to Jaques Station solves this problem since it's not only equipped with a habitation ring, but also the destination of a steady stream of supply ships."

Confronted with the question if the usage of Jaques Station as forward base wouldn't render such an operation senseless, the Fuel Rats spokesperson answered:

"We fully expect Jaques to continue his jouney at an undefined time in the future and since his station simply does not have the means to produce fuel in the necessary quantity to make that possible, an outpost will be inevitable sooner or later."

May I ask if this article is due to be posted in the near future of if it will never be posted?

The reason I ask is that we are several player groups coordinating quite closely on various storylines regarding Jacques station to make some well integrated lore. And currently we have both the main organizers of the August Exodus as well as Erimus standing by for the release of this article before they can make certain announcements themselves and integrate this article into them.

It is meant to be the first in a short series of articles featuring a general interest in emmigrating to Jacques station by ordinary people to try a new start out there. But first we need to establish that Kippax Ring is indeed tied to transports to and from Jacques station.

Please PM me if there is anything that needs changing or clarification in order for this to be published.

Thanks a bunch :)

Freelance Report: Children of Liberty Criticize Mahon

The organization known as the Children of Liberty has criticised Alliance Prime Minister Edmund Mahon for recent remarks concerning the supposed failings of the Federation and Empire.

"Prime Minister Mahon has denounced the "pettiness and greed" of his political rivals, but he tolerates those same sins among many of the Alliance's own member systems. He wants to create "a truly unified society", yet he tolerates ideologies within the Alliance's own borders that are fundamentally opposed to one another. According to an independent survey from 3301, over 213 million Alliance citizens live under the rule of explicitly authoritarian governments. How can a power that purports to value harmony and self-determination allow a member system to oppress its citizens?"

The missive, though critical, does conclude on a note of accord:

"Despite our political disagreements, we believe Prime Minister Mahon is right to call for protection of the barnacles. The rampant exploitation of these structures is not only reckless, it may even be dangerous. Until we know more about their origin and purpose, we should treat the barnacles with respect and a healthy dose of caution."

Ian, I could kiss you! But don't worry - I won't :p

Seriously, I want you to know how much I truly appreciate you including me in the editing process. I've taken note of the word count of your edit, and slightly edited both the title and story. It only adds 9 words (2 in the title, 7 in the story) - Will this be okay?

Thanks again, Ian - You're awesome!!!

Freelance Report: Children of Liberty Criticize, Agree with Mahon

The organization known as the 'Children of Liberty' has issued a statement criticizing Alliance Prime Minister Edmund Mahon for his recent remarks concerning the supposed failings of the Federation and Empire.

"Prime Minister Mahon has denounced the "pettiness and greed" of his political rivals, but he tolerates those same sins among many of the Alliance's own member systems. He wishes to create "a truly unified society", yet he tolerates ideologies within the Alliance's own borders that are irreconcilably opposed to one another! According to one study published in 3301, over 213 million Alliance citizens live under the rule of explicitly authoritarian governments. How can a galactic power that purports to value harmony and self-determination allow a member system to oppress its own citizens?"

The missive, though critical, does conclude on a note of accord:

"Despite our political disagreements, we believe Prime Minister Mahon is absolutely right to call for protection of the barnacles. The rampant exploitation of these structures is not only reckless, it may even be dangerous. Until we know more about their origin and purpose, we should treat the barnacles with respect... and a healthy dose of caution."

Title: A Chrome Plated Mystery
Length: 150 words

Story:
Rumours abound in the Old Worlds about the activities of a mysterious chrome plated Cobra thought to be making vast quantities of small deliveries for specific factions in the region. First noticed speeding from Ing Ring in Tionisla towards the end of July, there have been other high speed sightings in Quator and as far away as Heheng.

"He was clearly in a hurry," said one System Authority pilot from Ing Ring. "Colleagues tried to check his in-station activity, but after meeting with Lave Fortune Organisation he disappeared."

Eye witness accounts say the Cobra appeared a few days before war broke out above Rose Penal Colony, and then again during elections at Weber Settlement. To many, the ship is now considered an omen.

"Stations seem to switch allegience wherever it appears," said a Quator local, "it looks remarkably similar to a Cobra that helped the Alliance liberate Reorte last April."

Title: The Allies Disagree With Recent Criticism Of Prime Minister Mahon

The Alliance-aligned group known as The Allies has published a statement to contradict the recent criticism of Prime Minister Mahon by the Children of Liberty.

"We are very surprised by current reports of oppression within Alliance jurisdiction. It is well known that each member system has to agree on basic human rights. Every citizen has the freedom of movement, or the right to demonstrate for a change in politics. There are no exceptions, not even in systems which are ruled by a dictatorship."

"While we welcome the endeavor of the Children of Liberty to ensure freedom and justice, we believe that they may lack the ability to evaluate the situation within the Alliance. Governments of any type have been disposed as soon as they infringed our human rights agreements. Quite recently our group helped to ban slavery in a system close to Gateway. Edmund Mahon was aware of and supported this operation."

"We invite the Children of Liberty to an open discussion about our common values and how to provide them to as many people as possible."

Title: Paladin Consortium Calls For Help
Location: Galnet (or Kremainn, LFT 37, Nemet, Qarato, Andhrimi, Segovit, Cubeo)
Time: ASAP
Description:

With reports of attacks on rookie pilots increasing, the Paladin Consortium is putting out a call for assistance. In a recent speech,
Wing Commander Big Pappa appeared to be reaching out to pilots of all walks of life, "Violence has been on the rise in areas of space often traveled by rookie
pilots. Myself having been a recent victim of this random and abhorrent behavior, I personally attest to the severity of the situation. The Paladin Consortium is
calling on all commanders to step in and protect those who need it. We invite everyone, wether Independent, Federation or Alliance, and especially Empire, to join us in stamping
out this poison before it spreads."

The Paladin Consortium seems to be manuevering itself into position to stop or at least stem the flow of violent crime in the region. Crime reports show a near fifty percent
increase in violent crime in areas typically associated with rookie pilots and training grounds.

You're very welcome :)

Absolutely - your new edit will be published tomorrow. The only thing I didn't change was the title - I don’t think it needs to summarise the story!

Awww, but I love the dichotomy of it - It's amusing :p

Anywho, silly quibbles aside, thanks again for allowing me to edit - You're a good egg, Ian :)

'Authoritarian', as defined by Merriam-Webster: expecting or requiring people to obey rules or laws : not allowing personal freedom

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/authoritarian

'Dictatorial', also as defined by Merriam-Webster: of, relating to, or ruled by a dictator —used to describe a person who tries to control other people in a forceful and unfair way

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/dictatorial

Dictatorship, literally by definition, precludes acceptance of basic human rights, as those rights, by your own definition, include the freedoms of movement and petition. As we said, basic human rights and dictatorial, authoritarian governments are 'irreconcilably opposed to one another.'

I truly wish the Alliance stood for what it says it does, but this quite frankly smacks of... well, greed and pettiness, to quote Mahon. The only reason I can see to allow a government antithetical to Alliance beliefs into the Alliance would be for the trade profit said government's system resources might provide to the Alliance and its member states. It's certainly not because it complies with the Alliance's much-vaunted ethics, that much is obvious.

Sorry to hijack the thread to argue this point, Ian, but if you agree to post Captain Kirby's response to our article, I sincerely hope you'll be willing to post the Children's imminent response to their response, hehe ;)

Title: Mysterious Meta-Alloys
Date: Whenever suits
Location: Galnet
Text:

Meta alloys, heralded as the next step in material technology. Though what does the galactic community really know about them?

Whilst each of the major powers have shown intense interest in collecting the product, as of yet they are unable or unwilling to share any information they may have concerning possible uses.

We know that meta-alloys are easily machined, so in the future will we see our existing technology infused with this incredible alloy?

It seems likely, but considering the unknown origins of the source, it may be foolish to limit our imaginations to simple upgrades.

There is speculation that the meta-alloys may be in fact a type of seed. Considering the way they seemingly grow on barnacles, it is an obvious connection to make.

Perhaps figuring out how they work in their intended natural function should be the first thing we do, rather than machining them to fit our own desires.

Alright, so there's some random definition that stands in conflict with how Frontier describes and implemented the Alliance. Is Frontier therefore wrong? I follow the story which they gave us, and according to that EVERY member system has to accept and provide basic human rights.

I find it very.. unfortunate.. that you try to prevent the publication of our article just because you don't like what we state there. I don't like the accusations of your article either (especially as some of those are simply wrong), but I decided to counter them in an approriate way.

That being said, it would now feel very unfair in our eyes if our article was not going to get published. I know that might have happened even without Virgil's intervention, but now it would just feel wrong. Sorry for the pressure, Ian.

'Authoritarian', as defined by Merriam-Webster: expecting or requiring people to obey rules or laws : not allowing personal freedom

If you want to go with that point of view, then anything that has rule of law is authoritarian. Are you suggesting that only people living in Anarchies are truly free, because they do not have to obey rules or law?

You have to be quite careful of how you phrase your arguments, because quite often you'll find you've painted yourself into a corner that you did not mean to.
