Title: Response to Sima Kalhana
Location: Galnet
Time: Not important
Description: If you want peace, prepare for war

Sima Kalhana's recent documentary regarding the alien life known as Thargoids reminds us to look up from the daily grind of work and politics to reflect on the very real possibility that humans are not alone in the galaxy.

A group calling themselves the Myrmidon Initiative made a statement earlier today encouraging Commanders to think about and publicly discuss peaceful "first-contact" protocol in the event we make contact with alien life. The group claims that "It is better to have these talks now and be prepared before it's too late".

"A first-contact scenario has the potential to bring with it and few initial misunderstandings between races. Our goal should be to work through these misunderstandings even if conflict is apparent from the beginning. As the ancient writer Vegetius so aptly stated; If you want peace, prepare for war."

Title: The "Scramble for the Pleiades"
Location: Galnet
Time: Whilst the conflict/CG is active in Pleiades Sector IH-V C2-16
Description:

Back on Earth in the 19th Century, Earth saw the European powers seek to control and exploit the untapped resources of the African Continent.
This became known as the Scramble for Africa, and 15 centuries later we see the repeat in the Pleiades as the Three Super Powers of the Galaxy seek to control and exploitation of the Meta-Alloys harvested from the Barnacles found in the Pleiades and Californian Nebulae.
Typical of Human nature, the scarcity of this Alloys have left to a bush fire conflict in the Pleiades sector between the Empire and the Federation.
Like all fires, this one risk spreading, a risks setting the dangerous precedent of using force to exclude access to the Meta Alloys regardless of the victor in this conflict.
Consequently Argon Armrend of the Angeli Imperial Enterprises has called for a Conference, akin to the Berlin Conference of 1885, to establish territorial claims in the Pleiades sector so that the Empire, the Federation, the Alliance of Independent systems, and any non aligned factions with a vested interest in the Alloys c an have free and unrestricted access.

Nelder City of Wangal has been offered up as a Host station for this conference

Starting the long search for Heart and Soul

Title: Starting the long search for Heart and Soul
Location: Galnet
Time: Anytime Soon
Description:

With the recent mystery emanating from the ancient Tionisla, many commanders have headed off to EAFOTS and the Heart and Soul Nebulas in search of the answer, giving this hitherto lonley area of space a huge boost in attention. Who knows what will be found out there, the answers the questions of the Unknown Probes? Clues in the quest for the lost planet of Raxxla? at this point in time no one knows.

At this time one such intrepid explorer, Cmder Cweord (Using a callsign based on an ancient rune of the unknown - somewhat appropriate in this scenario) who refitted has his Asp Explorer especially for this journey should be reaching the region of the Nebulas. As he has not had time to visit any of the known engineers to boost his FSD, the journey out to EAFOTS should have taken in the region of a week, and who knows how long to get home once he has concluded his search and exploration.

"There will be interesting things out there, what I will find who knows, but even if it is not world changing, it will be interesting. Personally I am hoping to continue the quest for Raxxla and possibly find out the fate of Ryder family. I think that would be far preferable to finding an angry Thargoid battlecruiser"

Cmdr Cweord is planning on spending at least a month, probably considerably more on his quest. Though known ties to the Pilots Federation and Dark Wheel have called some of his motives in to question.

"I have no more particular ties to these organisations than I do to any other faction I am allied with - I have merely looked at factions that may have information to help me on the quest" Whether you choose to believe this is up to you.

Note - Cmdr name at the bottom is optional, I just figured that the style of the article meant I should not use Cweord as the writer as well.

Title: War for Control of Cubeo
Location: Galnet, Cubeo
Time: ASAP
Description:

CUBEO, War is raging in Aisling Duval's Headquarter system today as Cubeo's Patron's Principles stage an attack on Aisling's representative controlling faction The Prismatic Imperium.

Whilst Governor Michelle Bright pledged allegiance to Aisling Duval, in the same breath she also struck at the heart of the Princess's Stop Slavery Stupid Campaign, 'Lord Corwin Ryan has forced our hand. Cubeo has enough troubles of it’s own. I speak for the majority of our traditionalists when I say we don’t need millions of slaves moving into our space every year!'

Lord Corwin struck back immediately, 'We prove time and time again that the platform we build the Prismatic Imperium on is a diamond strengthened by the commitment of our Imperial societies working together. I have faith that our support for Aisling Duval and our efforts to eliminate the dependence on a slavery driven economy will gain us favor in our current conflict.'

Prismatic Imperium allies will be in the Cubeo system. Factions pledging support include Paladin Consortium, Achenar Immortals, Empire 13th Legion, Aisling’s Angels, Pileus Libertas, (Aisling) Slack Prime, among others. Please use caution when targeting.

The Prismatic Imperium's military forces are being led by controverial Overseer Jesse Ladde, whilst independent pilots pledged to the Imperium are under the command of the Lord Warden UntamedZer0.

TITLE: Dancing for Salomé?
WHEN: ASAP
WHERE: Galnet preferably, or Tionisla, Lave, Riedquat and Reorte

TEXT:
Recents events in Tionisla have focused attention once more on the Heart and Soul nebulae, on the borders of an area of mystery known as the Formidine Rift. Earlier this year, the Children of Raxxla established what they describe as 'listening posts' at the edge of the Rift. Questions are now being asked about the motivation of this group and it's leadership, known to include ex-Imperial Senator Kahina Tijani Loren, now calling herself Salomé.

Commander Drew Carnegie of the Independent Rift Explorers Association had this to say:

At a time of heightened tension between the Federation and Empire, we have an Imperial Senator masquerading as a normal Commander, taking control of an independent group and establishing checkpoints in deep space, under the dubious guise of monitoring an unknown and unspecified threat. Are the Children of Raxxla complicit in Kahina's plans, or unwitting pawns in a greater conspiracy?

To my fellow Rifters, I say this: Ask yourself, whose tune is Salomé dancing to?

Title: The Thin End of the Wedge or A Whey With Curds

When : ASAP, preferably before war breaks out

Where: Galnet, or Shinrarta Dezhra

Description:

"As we face galactic war, an even greater tragedy is unfolding" pleaded disgraced mega chef Oliver Gordon as he addressed the celebrity fundraising event 'Healing Cheese'.

"Gourmet food faces a cultural genocide unless we act. We owe it to the creameries of the galaxy to save cheeses before these vital artisan skills are lost forever.

We implore the Pilots Federation to add cheese on the approved tradeable cargoes list; in this time of crisis, only the savoury notes of Eotienses Blue or a slice of Stinking Lavian can heal our divisions as we hurtle towards potential armageddon- we must not ignore the unifying force of cheese in our time of need."

As the event progressed , the celebrity packed gathering saw other chefs such as Ben Hom, the Hairy Commanders and Floyd Kennard petition the Pilots Federation to rapturous applause, who are yet to comment on the issue.

Title: Children of Raxxla refute Imperial slurs
When: ASAP
Where: Galnet please

The Children of Raxxla (CoR) today issued a communiqué, utterly refuting the outrageous slurs that have appeared in the Imperial press against the good name of Cmdr Salomé . It states, "Cmdr Salomé is dedicated to the peaceful exploration of the galaxy and the setting aside of humanity's petty factional disputes, the better to face whatever we may find in deep space. Attempts to smear her as a terrorist or traitor are beneath contempt".

CoR announced in May this year that they would begin patrols of the borders of the Formidine Rift, following directions from Cmdr Salomé. The Rift is an area of interest to many pilots because of rumours of missing ships and unusual phenomena. The patrols concluded in June with no significant results or unusual discoveries.

Cmdr Jellicoe speaking for CoR said, "An old Cobra Mk.III was recently added to the Tionisla Orbital Graveyard, where it transmitted a message indicating EAFOTS sector. This is an area familiar to us from our previous patrols and because of the fresh attention given to the region, Cmdr Salomé will be mounting a second CoR Rift Patrol in the coming days".

Title : A call for peace.

Content : During the latest weeks, we were witnessing the increasing tension between the Federation and the Empire in the Pleiades sector.
A recent report mentions a bad economic climate. The economic recession seems inevitable.
In this poisonous atmosphere, The Wolf Society, speaking through his spokesman, wants to express a message of peace: "You were many to applauded the latest speech of Felicia Winters, proving that you do not want the war. We want to remind that the best way to avoid this war is being unite by our collective efforts to colonize the EOL PROU’s region around Jaques Station. This area is full enough of resources to give the hope of a global economical restart, and peace for all."

Title: Call to all Commanders to Stand Up to the Federation

Location: (Galnet)

Time: (ASAP)

Description:
As galactic tension escalates, growing numbers of commanders have expressed concern at Federal operations near barnacle sites.

Addressing a protest at Conversion, one Commander's message resonated with the crowd:

"Unilateral action by the Federation must be stopped for the good of all humanity, I say this as a human being, not just an Imperial Baron. Hudson does not speak for any of you nor does he care about the consequences of his actions.

If we wish to be seen as civilised we need to stop his plan and demonstrate we are united as a species.

Right now our actions say we are divided and weak. Now is the time to end this war before it escalates, opening barnacle sites for research and preventing exploitation by enforcing laws instead of killing. Regardless of your allegiance, all that matters is unity. If Hudson must be forced to comply, so be it."

Title: Burger King

When: ASAP

Where: Harma, Gabriel Enterprise

Description:

Chaos erupted aboard Gabriel Enterprise last night as security personnel uncovered an underground chain of fast food outlets serving the controversial 'Soylent White' meat.

The grisly discovery happened when Kumo pirates noticed thousands of slaves vanishing each week while imports of eleven as yet unidentified herbs and spices increased dramatically.

Soylent White shot to fame when Gabriel Enterprise endured famine and enterprising individuals looked for other, less conventional supplies of food.

As he was dragged from the kitchens, self styled 'burger master' Ronald McKing screamed "The Kumo only care about my profits! I'll never tell them the secret blend of herbs and spices that make Soylent White taste so good!"

Wiping burger sauce from his mouth, one pirate remarked: "This guy was literally eating into our profits- you just don't eat slaves, no matter how tasty they are."

Title: Feds on Verge of Declaring Early Victory.

Date: ASAP

Where: Kamadhenu, Pleiades Sector IH-V C2-16, Sol, main Gal-Net if deemed appropriate

Description:

The mood around Inquisition headquarters was dour today, as reports of the failure of Imperial forces to hold the line against the Federal incursion into the Pleiades continue to pour in. One grizzled old veteran who had just returned from the front lines had this to say:

"The Feds are good at getting a fast start, I'll give them that. But then, as soon as they get a little ahead, every merc and privateer in the sector sides with them. How are we supposed to stand up to that?"

Meanwhile, jubilant Federation-aligned commanders are celebrating their all-but-certain victory. Said one inebriated commander:

"If the Imps put as much effort into fighting as they do making excuses, we might actually have a battle on our hands! Sorry, Emperor- but pretty ships do not a sector defend!"

Title: EG Pilots declare support for Fuel Rats outpost
Date: Whenever fitting (has no hurry)
Location: GalNet, alternatively Fuelum & Eurilya

Following the announcement of plans for a deep space outpost, EG Pilots declared their support for this project of the Fuel Rats Mischief.

Yuri Grom, leader of EG Pilots: "We fully support the construction of a base to assist rescue operations in the far rim. As CMDR activity in this part of the galaxy increases dramatically, we expect that the amount of explorers towards Sagittarius A* and Beagle Point will increase too."

Asked about the collaboration between the two organizations a Fuel Rat spokesperson answered:
"EG Pilots offered their support without any incentive from the Fuel Rat Mischief. Their offer includes production capabilities, the supplying of the necessary titanium and steel based construction materials as well as taking over a significant part of the funding.
I want to make clear again that the Fuel Rats Mischief is still a neutral organization and independent from any power. We have not and will not take sides in any conflicts between powers, organizations and persons supporting us."

The Fuel Rats are a voluntary refuelling service which has delivered fuel to almost 14000 CMDRs in need by the end of this week.

Title: On the Topic of the 'Imperial Federation'
Date: Anytime (starting from the 15th)
Location: Gamma-3 Octantis, Papako, Otohime, HIP 10137, Selkadiae (I don't mind 'Galnet' but I doubt this would make those news)

In the wake of the so-called colonial mismanagement and exploitation of the Tucanae and Synuefe sectors by some imperial clients, the governments of Gamma-3 Octantis, Papako and Otohime have decided to establish a loose confederation they call an imperial federation.
After having suffered colonial exploitation and mismanagement themselves, Papako and Gamma-3 Octantis saw a recent change of government by support of the Socialist Union of Otohime.

This new developement and their openly communicated goal to rejuvenate the borderworlds of the Empire even against the opposition of 'cleptocratic autocrats and corporations' might soon lead to conflicts, however. Thus, it is of little help, that their open hostility towards non-democratic goverments serves as an outlet for the local neo-feudalists and corrupt officials to band together against their claims for the region. Which, in all honesty, is solely based on their archaic democratic agenda and in their adoption of our local viceregent, Her Highness Aisling Duval, as their at best figurative head of state.

In the end the only solace we take is that this risky experiment of neo-democracy inside the Empire's jurisdiction falls into a long neglected area of colonial expansion and will hopefully never leave its premises. One should never forget, a war can be started but never ended at once beg and call and profits might be lost in its wake.

Long live Empress Alissa-Lavigny Duval!

Please stop with the Soylent White. It is not funny. It's disgusting.

What if he changed it to Soylent Orange?? [squeeeee]

My complaint is that these articles on "Soylent White" are not simply trivializing cannibalism, but trying to make it mainstream and acceptable in Elite. I realize Elite tackles (and even trivializes) other moral issues, such as slavery, murder, and substance abuse, but as someone who views cannibalism in the light of genuine human tragedy like the Donner Party, and as a disgusting and reprehensible predilection like that of Hannibal Lecter, I really don't want to see it portrayed as an acceptable (or even celebrated) behavior in Elite Dangerous. I personally don't care to participate in a community where that is the case.

If you read Elite Reclamation you will likely note that the topic of cannibalism was addressed there. However, it was not treated as an acceptable practice. It was treated like the horror it is.

Other detritus littered the floor. With growing horror Salomé made out gnawed bones, the remnants of ribcages and, arranged in a stack, a collection of discoloured skulls. Some were whole, others cracked and broken. She jolted back in shock, taking in the gaze of those empty eye sockets with a short yelp of fear.

If Frontier wants to make Archon and his minions a crew of cannibals, that is their call. But if so, I hope it is handled properly, and not treated like a joke.

I apologize for derailing this thread and its purpose, but this is an issue I feel strongly about.

The number one reason why I oppose the Empire is because I have a similar gut reaction when it comes to the idea of slavery. I can't wait for Frontier to provide a game mechanic where I can ACTIVELY work to abolish slavery throughout the galaxy. I've read enough of the official fiction to know that 'Imperial Slavery' doesn't actually provide the guarantees that Imperial propaganda implies.

I agree though. Lets not introduce yet another horror to the galaxy until they've implemented a way to fight against it.

So, no fries with that?

Seriously though, I'm clearing out my old story chest so this one has missed the boat I suppose.

Also, I do find it comical that Archon who beheads opponents and sells families of women and children into slavery, players of all persuasions casually murder innocents for bits of ships and casual references to drug taking (which is much more of a problem and much more insidious having dealt with drug addicts in my old job) is glossed over for the much less widespread practice of cannibalism. And ED is full of dark humour, as it should be.

I don't hold up much hope of that story being used much like my other food horror story with barnacle flesh was not used. But one has to try...and if you have reacted in such a way to my story, then it succeeded very well in its purpose of making people shiver a little- and just to correct you, not all pirates == Kumo in the story, so it's a bit of a leap to suggest Kumo == cannibals. But who knows? I would love a Firefly Reaver power.
