Title: First Contact on Horizon
Location: Galnet, Varati
Time: ASAP
Description: In a hastily arranged press conference, which contained some startling images, Dr Arcanonn announced “Over one year ago I asked a question. That question has led to the discovery today, by CMDR Noctrach a fellow of the Canonn Interstellar Research Group, whom on the planet 9A, in the Pleiades System AB-W B2-4, at the coordinates of -26.3772 by 97.6982, found a non-human ship of unknown origin crashed upon the surface. After hearing of this discovery I rushed to the site to confirm this for our scientific community and review CMDR Noctrach’s observations. Today we stand on the brink of first contact.” He continued. “Steps are being taken by the Canonn to secure the site for open research by the whole of humanity.”

Title: Community protests for governmental silence about alien structures and ships.
Location: Galnet, Varati, Sol, Achenar
Description: After the shocking discovery of an alien ship in the Pleiades nebula, many voices have risen demanding for an official explanation. Many protesters state that the presence of the Empire and the Federation within the nebula, followed by this discovery, are a clear proof that both forces were actually aware of what they were about to unveil. While those accusations have not been challenged yet, the Pleiades Resources Enterprise has stated that the investigations have been started, and that they will make their findings available for the public as soon as they are ready.

This reporter has been unable to get in touch with any imperial representative regarding this matter.

Title: Crashed “Alien Vessel” Likely an Artifact of the Past
Location: Galnet / Alternatively Okinura, Sol, Achenar, Alioth and Maia
Date: Any time after the announcement of the finding of the 'alien ship' in the Pleiades sector

The discovery of what appears to be the ruins of a spacecraft of non-human origin has sent ripples of both fear and curiosity throughout the galaxy.

“Many are speculating that this is evidence of Thargoid activity,” commented Professor Steven Eisler of the Okinura Xenobiology Institute. “I urge calm. It is more likely that this wreckage dates to mankind’s first encounters with the Thargoids. That threat has long been eliminated.”

“What I find disturbing is the nature of the messages and clues that were deciphered to uncover this xeno-archaeological find. Someone is deliberately preying on mankind’s fear of the unknown and those someones are definitely human. They need to be held accountable for their deeds and actions.”

Attempts to contact notable conspiracy theorist Ricardo Bentonio were unsuccessful as, according to his publicist, Bentonio is currently packing his luggage for an immediate holiday at Jaques Station.

Note to editor: My use of the name “Steven Eisler” is an homage to the late Robert Holdstock, author of the novella The Dark Wheel. Holdstock, using the pen-name of 'Steven Eisler' wrote the text for a collection of art titled The Alien World: The Complete Illustrated Guide in which a lot of the vocabulary (though used in a different context) that made it into the Elite universe can find it’s genesis. There are mentions of Raxxla, The Dark Wheel and thruspace (the original FTL technology from the first Elite). I thought it would be nice to pay Holdstock a little respect. If you’d rather go with a different name then please replace it with any name you feel appropriate.

Title: Out of reach, not out of mind.
Location: Galnet
Time: After publication of the discovery of the alien crash site in the Pleiades sector.
Description:

In light of the resent reports of a presumed alien wreckage in the Pleiades Sector, the Canonn Interstellar Research Group has decided to release yet another piece of information from the unknown probe.

Not long after the discovery of planetary data in the tight-beam transmission from the Unknown Probe, a new recorded holofac ticked in on the Canonn public channel.

The message from deep space investigator Commander Wace simply read: 'The headerless octal number: It is distance compared to Merope!'

Then followed a long list of data, obtained by monitoring the Unknown Probe in different systems. The octal number was steadily decreasing as Commander Wace moved closer to the permit locked Col 70 Sector.

By an impressive display of field mathematics, Commander Wace pin-pointed the system 'Col 70 Sector FY-N C21-3' as the 'Zero Point' of the Unknown Probe.

The Canonn is prevented from further investigation of the system, by the permit lock of the entire Col 70 Sector. Authorities has so far not published any explanation for this infringement of personal liberty.

According to the Canonn legal department, this is in direct contravention of the Sirius Convention on Worker's Rights as it prevents private explorers from doing their job.

Title: Walls of Silence

Location: Galnet, if not Polevnic, Antal

Time: Not time dependent

Description:

As news of alien artefacts continues to make galactic headlines, governments are now facing uncomfortable questions as unease replaces public rapture.

With record salaries rushing capital ship production along with heightened military tension in a sector rife with unexplained events, few have noticed escalating numbers of disease outbreaks sweeping through inhabited space, or of increasing political unrest.

Although the staple of conspiracy theorists, the timing and frequency of events has prompted many citizens to demand answers from increasingly mute governments.

One individual who wished to remain anonymous summed up the fearful mood:

"Why are the governments so quiet? On their own these events are frightening enough- but together? I am afraid for my family, for our future. Is silence a better answer than the truth? Perhaps they know what's coming, and cannot stop it. I think that scares me more, the thought that even our leaders are powerless.'

Hey all,

Just wanted to share a link to this thread. Yesterday marked my 100th publication in GalNet/Local News, so I thought I'd release an album of sorts for all of those articles.

Special thanks to our resident Frontier rep, Ian Dingwall, who has had to read all my drivel since he took up this post. It's been a fun hobby for me to take part in. Thanks for putting up with me!

TITLE: We Don't Go To Jones Dock Anymore...

DESCRIPTION:
In the months following the ejection of the only anarchic faction in Caelottixa, the population of this High Tech/Extraction system remains pegged at 25,000. Although the various factions have contributed to an on-going bull market, goods for sale are hard to come by.

In an interview with Caelottixa Central and Company's VP Maylen Moser, his response to the lack of goods in the market came to this: "People. We need a work force that can sustain meeting the demands of our fine, technological products. The demand is there, we just do not have the bodies, personnel if you would, to keep up supply."

Moser had no comment as to improving inmigration into the system, but would say that the nearby Arena homeworld might attract more permanent citizens in the future.

Title: August Exodus ends with a bang

On Tuesday, August 30th 3302, the August Exodus officially came to end with dozens of Commanders assembling outside Jaques Station for photos and general tomfoolery. Despite a few explosions everybody enjoyed a test race on the track that will be hosting the first official event of the newly established Colonia Citizens Network on Sunday, September 4th.
The August Exodus Organization Team issued a statement saying "Our wildest dreams have come true with the establishment of a new colony in deep space as a result of our effort. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all Commanders who have taken part in this endeavor. This could not have happened without your help."

Title: Operation Vigilant Guardian

With the recent discovery of an assumed crashed alien ship in the Noczevich Gully located in Pleiades Sector AB-W B2-4, there have been increased numbers of Commanders departing to see this site for themselves. Leader of The Order of the Burning Serpent CMDR Eyes0fTheS0UTH has released a statement regarding amateur scientists and security concerns.

"It has been brought to my attention that the Alien crash site is not secured at all and is in a Anarchy System. Certain items are being brought into this area and are being used in research the Galactic community should find extremely reckless and could cause repercussions of an unimaginable scale."

A proposal has been sent by The Order to Karl Devene, head of the Federal Astrocartography Department in hopes some form of Security can be formed in the area. So far there has been no official response from Mars High.

During a recent interview, Leader of The Order made a similar statement about the crash site to Karl Devene's warning of amateur explorers.

"This is not a tourism spot for every Commander with an Asp Explorer and a few hours of crash coursed Astrobiology to come live out their Canonn Scientist Fantasies."

Title: Unknown encounters in deep space?
Location: GalNet, Unknown
Time: Any time

Today we received an anonymus letter which looks like a part of a printed diary of an unknown explorer. It contains some intersting informations and a warning for other deep space explorers out there:

START
08 / 24 / 3302 - 10:43: It is a boring day again on my travel to the Orion Nebula. Maybe I shouldn't took that break from bounty hunting. But I don't regret my decision, it was the right one for the moment. I'm really tired to hunt down smugglers and pirates.

08 / 24 / 3302 - 11:03: Just arrived in a new unknown system on my travel. My scanners are telling me, there is no interesting planet again in here. Maybe I should rethink ... Wait, my computer found another unidentifed signal source, I'll check it.

08 / 24 / 3302 - 11:07: Oh my god ... Another wrecked ship and my scanner couldn't find any survival pods around it. Just another large datachip with exploration data. I'll recover it too.

08 / 24 / 3302 - 11:32: That is the the third wreck I found on the way, what is going on out here? I don't have the equipment to read all ... What the hell ... Where is the green light coming from? It's flooding my cockpit but I don't see any source ... Now it's gone ... Better I leave this place now.
END

If this really happened what we could read here, I have to warn all other explorers out there: Always be careful, we don't know what this means.

Hello Ian,
My name is Frank and I have things I'd like to share with the folks at Frontier to see what you all think of them. Getting in contact with guys is a little easier said than done especially when it comes to things like this however, I hope I'm not wasting your time with my ideas. What I have been toying with is a company I created for the elite universe that has a supporting back story, articles, as well as products, ie ships, weapons, and modules, designed by it. I've written up quite a bit of info as well as made some preliminary drawings of these items. I am not an artist by any means, however, I am a machinist, engineer, and topographic alanlyst. Blessed with a good mind and cursed with the hands of an orangutan with parkinsons, rulers and graphing paper are my best friends. Nevertheless I would love to share my ideas in the hopes that it would make an amazing game that much greater.

Title: THOUSANDS OF SLAVES FREED AFTER TWIN CANDLES INITIATIVE
Content:

The abolitionist campaigner Etiene Denain has announced that his call to free slaves has been successful.

A huge number of independent pilots flocked to his cause and around 12,600 former slaves are thought to now owe their freedom to those brave participants in the Jaunt to Jaques expedition.

This morning, he had this to say to the Colonia Gazette:

"I have been utterly humbled by the selfless actions displayed by the pilots involved in this initiative. A lot of families here owe you their freedom, pilots. For the rest of your lives you can hold your heads high knowing that you did an amazing thing.

"Many of the pilots involved have opted to remain at Jaques to protect those families. The Twin Candles Militia has committed to defending the freedom and independence of all Colonists."

Title: DENAIN SET TO LEAVE JAQUES STATION
Content:

The communist anti-slavery campaigner Etiene Denain has announced that he is to leave the Colonia Nebula and return to the Bubble.

In a statement made from the steps of the Militia offices on Jaques Station, he said:

"My work is not done. We've created something amazing out here, but back in the Bubble billions are still enslaved. So, it is reluctantly that I tell you that I will soon be departing to carry on the fight.

"I've been invited by the Adamantine Union of Uibuth to assist in their struggle. They have long been allies of the Twin Candles, and we believe that together we can achieve much more.”

Title: Imperial Federation recognizes the Adamantine Union

The Imperial Federation, a confederation of systems to protect each other against the old guard of imperial clients in the Tucanae and Synuefe Sector, has released an official statement of endorsement for the Adamantine Union. Imperial Chancellor Hank Summers further remarked this:

"The main goal of the Imperial Federation is to rekindle the flickering light of colonization inside of Tucanae and to guarantee its citizens the freedom from fear and want. It is no secret that our Imperial Highness Princess Aisling Duval supports our new democratic approach for the sector and as such we are certain that the Adamantine Union will find a genial reception for its future projects among our kind. Despite, or rather due to its legacy.

We for one welcome our new democratic neighbors."

Title: Better Late than Never

Description: After 9 months of darkness and social decay, life has returned to Pic Tok. Residents (and Sirius Inc technicians) sighed in collective relief as local UA malfunctions abruptly ended; only 2 casualties and 11 non-fatal injuries have been reported. On August 28th, this nominally defunct system was overrun by participants in a galaxy-wide hunt coordinated by the 'Granger Gang'. Many "hunters" were surprised by the poor condition of Lobachevsky Outpost; at least 3 vessels had to request emergency fuel service. Within hours of their passing, all major services were restored. It's not entirely clear whether transient "good Samaritans" (or Sirius Inc) deserve credit. The question may never be answered, especially to the satisfaction of locals. That being said, we're happy with this outcome. "Granger Madness" has ended, but Sirius Inc remains committed to Pic Tok.

-Commander McCaslin

Notes: Pic Tok was an experimental subject, and victim of long-term UA malfunctions. I wrote another local news story about it in March.
