ANNOUNCEMENT Game Balancing

Some days late, I guess no one will read this, but it's worth a try:

Maybe I do not see the whole picture, but from what I see, I don't think this is the right approach to implement such changes.

Reducing the best source of credits at first sends the wrong signal.
Why reduce mining at all?
Just increase the amount of credits for all other ressources.

In other words: balancing with a nerf opener feels so bad.
It will not make me return from my hiatus until I see all other changes.
Mining Was boosted on CORE items.. Laser mining Is lowered... Skill based pays higher... Ice rings were nerfed in july so all Ice content was allready point less the new core prices makes Rocky better any way..
Trade cargo runs was boosted and is now BETTER per hour than RNG mining painite per hour even before the price drop. If You have a cutter its way better CPH, If a T9 not so good...

Well, it was something that I was saying right from the beginning however pro-nerf zealots decided that it is not important. I was even accused of being too vocal as a person being in the forums for only short period of time... So yeah, waste of time actually...

Fdev, any chance you guys can comment on the PWS issue please?
Looks like they don't even 100% believe that it's a real issue, as it's still in the "confirming" phase:

But if people care about it they could probably try contributing to the bug report.

edit: or vote for this better established (if less specific) bug report:

I am always a fan of balancing for more fairness in a game.

But one thing I was always annoyed of is the hotspots in mining... you should remove the effect of overlapping hotspots and increase the effect of the hotspots overall... imo in a hotspot every 2nd asteroid shouls contain at least small amounts of the hotspot material and there shouldnt be a need of going into a triple hotspot, whenever you want to mine something... this change would distribute the carrier more on the galaxy instead of all being in "hyades sector DB-X d1-112"

just my opinion

Void opals dropped to 800,000, can you verify this information provided is correct?

While I understand markets do "crash", it seems to happen a lot in regards to mining. The Low Temp Diamonds I understand why such a swift and brutal change was necessary, however with void opals I dont get it. They aren't that easy to mine in mass, and the biggest losers are going to be FC owners like me with orders on them. Its worth mentioning that the orders are based on galactic average % on goods, and unfortunately dont automatically adjust when Fdev adjusts prices ingame, which at least for me has resulted in the loss of billions. I'd like to suggest that FC's be allowed to auto-adjust based on galactic average, and that Fdev does price changes by effecting the galactic average rather than changing multipliers based on system state/industry. This way anyone owning a FC doesn't get tons of low value materials dropped on them while they sleep because within an hour or two of the change it looks like people panicked and dumped their stock on other FC owners.

and painite... omg the loses are brutal xD
Might have been sensible to cash out before the changes. FDev have said that will continue to monitor it and makes changes with feedback so if you hold your nerve things might get better.

They allready have in FC update they had to lower the over lap boost because combining 2 of the new hot spots boosted way higher... What it created is Haz res mining loop in new systems, as the other play group now..
Painite mining is not worth doing any more as you get more from cargo runs now due to the pay boost... As this info gets bigger coverage the FC will leave already and those that do laser mining for FUN only will be left... CPH will do other things now not mining...

Anyone else noticing the weird fluctuations in the markets? Things are not making sense. The prices on Inara and EDDB are changing and people are reporting different prices at the same station. I feel as if a lot more was changed than we were told, and I'd like some answers.

You can't trade misions not worth bothering with in my player faction system none above 100k except donates thanks for ruining it for me FDEV time to retire after 4 years of playing mining well what mining not worth the time NOW

Some servers failed to update and are on the old system prices... if you wait the 10 min timer out you can get the New prices...
Painite was flipping back to 900K+
Musgravite flips from 1,18mill to 808K

So after all, the Danger can be different and come from everywhere. And that's what the game is called – Dangerous Elite. So we all knew what we needed to be prepared for. Namely, to different Dangers (and with force majeure).
My favourite thing about this absolutely asinine argument is that the game isn't called "Elite: Dangerous" because it's supposed to just randomly delete player accounts every so often or whatever ludicrous idea you have that you think equates to difficulty, it's actually named after a feature that Braben talked about adding but which actually got cut or never existed.
You think the game is ever going to change in a fundamental way? I would call that a triumph of hope over experience. Maybe in Elite 5 (Elite Plausible?) it will. No the best we will get is tinkering like this, which may help our friend with the T9 not to rush headlong into buying a ship that they haven’t got the experience to equip or handle or it may not. We shall see.
This is absolutely laughable - they can add an entirely new first person mode to the game but changing anything else other than player incomes is beyond them? Don't be ridiculous.
I agree it is the players mistake, but as the post pointed out they don’t see it that way they blame the game. This is a
problem for the rest of us. Player get disillusioned and quits after a few weeks blaming the game. They now think they have wasted their money and tell all their friends not to buy it and post on the internet what a poor game it is. That puts people off buying which means less revenue for FDev and less incentive for them to improve the game.
So the game is bad, will never be good and the best we can hope for is to trick players into buying it? You sound like a real fan of both Elite and Frontier Developments lol. Dare to dream a little mate, it won't kill you.

And you think combat is worth the time ? Exploration is worth the time ?
I do these activities because they are fun, not because they are 'profitable'.

If you enjoy mining only for the credits, then you are really loosing your time.

No way for players to learn the game? What?!!! You learn the game by playing it. And you do realise there are tutorials for the basics. You did go through those didn’t you?! Would be nice if there was one on interdiction. And you still don’t get it. The time I took to learn the game in small ships WAS NOT FRUSTRATING! It was fun! Why was it fun and not frustrating? Progress was steady. Credits, rank, rep all going up. Setbacks were minor and easily recovered from so hard lessons were learned cheaply. There are a whole range of activities that are viable to try in a small ship like a Cobra so there were lots of interesting things to do. ED as a game for newbies may not be perfect, but it is far from the disaster you describe.
Interdiction.. Here you go.

Yes they do but the odds are against one happening during the life of the game (2-3 per century in this galaxy) which are way higher than the chance of them happening in a system with someone in it.

When there not so many supernovae happening, then there's no need to worry about them.

Thought I would add my 2 cents as a pretty new player. Been around a month or so I think... started the week before horizons went free. I bought ED probably a year ago during a sale and sort of forgot about it. Got bored recently in Star Trek Online and thought hey I have ED.

To the point, I currently have 1.4 billion or so earned obviously mostly through mining. Mostly through core mining. I did laser mining for a day or two... after I did enough courier missions to buy a adder. Stripped it down including the shield and went and mined rock. I found a good station close to a ring that had plenty of decent smaller mining missions... we require osmium that sort of thing. After a day or two I had a nice little 15-10 million bank roll and grabbed a AspX. I did do a bit of running around cause it was nice to be able to jump somewhere... unlocked a few engineers. Then decided I should learn how to core mine. Turns out the AspX is a very good core miner. Easily could haul 96t of cargo, and after a couple runs I was pulling some nice 20-40 million proifts a run. Then I figured I should do some prospecting... ran around found a few nice spots my favorite is a nice little Void Opel double spot. Found myself a nice home base close by and made my first 500 million or so. Then decided to try some (more) combat. Pay was terrible but had fun in 4 or 5 ships, Cheiften is a beast and the Fer De Lance is great as well. I unlocked a bunch more engineers so I could engineer FSD/Thrusters/Multi Cannons/Lasers at least to the 3-4 mark. Then I loaded out a Dimond Back and went and hit up a couple guardian module sites. (I skipped the weapon stuff for now I'll get to the thargoid hunting later) Unlocked the G FSB and the G shield boosters. Then after some reading I went and explored a few wrecks and went and found Dav's hope.

Came back and decided I would top my account up to 1.5-2 billion or so then YES grab a big ship. Which I did... and I decided the Anaconda was too easy so I went and unlocked federation rank and grabbed a star destroyer. Spent an evening flying to the 8 or 9 engineers I unlocked and did it up. Now I have been around a ton of other MMOs... space games included. Perhaps I'm not your average mid life game "new" player. I am not stupid I know if I went up against a decent long time player in a small ship with the star destroyer I would go boom. (but damn it makes bounty hunting sort of a joke... I have to find some higher difficulty NPCs) I may also go back and load out a small fighting ship like a vulture now that I know what I'm doing a bit more and get a better grip on Fixed weapons.

To the changes on pricing on core stuff... as someone with only a month of experience. It makes sense to me. However I hope they don't go a little too far. Perhaps 1 hour 130 million core mining runs for a player with 2 weeks in IS a bit excessive. However without sounding like a Jerk I doubt a ton of "new" ED players are quite getting there. IMO it should still be the highest paying time sink in the game. (with in reason) what should pay more hunting down some renegade corp puppet in a broken down adder, or hunting down and blowing up some rock full of 100s of tons of rare ore.

In the end I'm posting for the "new" players. There are lots of us old time game vets that skipped ED for whatever reason. Coming in it was nice to find a path to sort of at least somewhat catch up quick. I understand some very silly newbie youtube watchers could get the idea they would be gods after a week in their shiny un engineered anaconda, with 6 different types of weapons and 5 cargo racks. I think its overblown however, for the most part ime new players understand there is no replacement for experience. Yes I jumped the que so to speak myself... and I do intend to go back now and start kitting out all the cool ships I skipped over. Perhaps the game just needs to do a better job of showing newer players the fun to be had in the smaller ships. Like it or not there will ALWAYS be a way to make a ton of credits in these types of games... and someone will always be willing to share how to on their favorite video site or forum post. (and one final note... core mining despite the odd scanner mechanics is actually damn fun. Never had fun "mining" in any game before... but landing the perfect charge setup watching it blow and seeing 16 resources released is very gratifying)

So it looks like Frontier have introduced dynamic demand to all commodities, as they did with LTD's and Tritium supply.

This is a really bad change for trading, and also weakens tools like EDMC, EDDB, and Inara.

If this is the case, mining is basically a dead profession as is trade, so I hope the combat buffs are worth it.

It means that trade is going to work as it was/is supposed to (hopefully).
