Game Bashing On Steam

If you keep digging that hole further buddy, you'll end up in Australia and wonder why the kangaroos are not upside down.

Conspiracy theories are fun and all, but they cease to be fun after a while. Especially when people get serious about them.

Whatever I said my piece.

So tell me Erei, considering you brought up mental health, which is a very serious topic for you to throw into the discussion, and the fact you agreed with the what the other poster said very recently, after the fact, am I correct in believing that you think I'm "the most delusional person i've you've met"?

+1 doesn't mean agreement.
The post made me laugh, I +1 it because I like to laugh.
I'm a weird person who cheers for both side in a competition, as long as it's entertaining.

You're not the most delusional. I know someone who thinks aliens from the future talk to him through cloud shapes and TV meteorological bulletin. So you still have some way to go. Sorry.

Questions ?

I think that wraps it up.

I still haven't rated Odyssey. Lazyness, and I wanted to see if they could fix it. Not that I had many hopes, but I guess I'm less of a jerk than some people might thing.
Ok it was mostly lazyness.

I wonder what my rating will be !
Don't put yourself down! You're 100% the jerk we think you are 😘

The base game was amazing - the galaxy map, the galaxy skybox, orbital mechanics, procedural generation of star systems, sectors, etc… the flight mechanics, ship variety, mission variety- all of it was so good.

then Horizons made it even better with planetary landings, beautiful planetary vistas, the SRV, Guardian and Thargoid mysteries, Engineers (for better of for worse), etc…

And then Odyssey came along which cut down frame rate performance by about a third for little to no graphical improvement (even a graphical regression in some areas).

The game borders on false advertising because it’s not even possible to make it look like how it was presented in the pre-alpha and promotional material. The on-foot FPS gameplay might be good, but I’ll never know because frame rate performance is so bad.

As for the new exobiology gameplay and planetary geography- both are constant reminders that FDev no longer have the will or the ability to create variety using procedural generation any more, and that’s very sad.

My experience with Odyssey compelled me to leave my first ever negative review of a game, and I think all the negative reviews, and the overall game rating on Steam are entirely justified.

It’s great that it’s shortcomings don’t bother you @shogun195333 , but it’s silly to assume they don’t bother everyone else.
Nanites opinion is very close to my own opinion on Odyssey.

Horizons was excellent for the first few years. I especially enjoyed the inclusion of the different races and sites to explore. That was the key for me personally... There was new content I could explore and exploration was a key component of the game. And I've done a lot of it! Way over 8,000 hours the last time I looked. I've travelled to Beagle Point and the length and breadth of the Galaxy...

Then Odyssey became a FPS to try to pull in some of the teenage pew pew crowd with Cookie Cutter Settlements for on-foot pew pew. And frankly the game turned into a shootshow and I couldn't abide by what FDev had done to this game. It stunk in the nostrils. The last year has been simply patching the abomination that was and is Odyssey. Odyssey wrecked my enjoyment and love of a game I have played for years and a franchise since its first incarnations decades ago. It is a train wreck that has destroyed the spirit of the game so that Fdev could turn a profit. It is deeply ironic that the opposite has happened to the companies fortunes!

I pop into these forums from time to time but I have ceased to enjoy playing ED and have only clocked up a handful of hours since the launch of Odyssey. It was and remains a travesty I am not prepared to pay for!

And that's my negative review OP.

Meh, a review is a review. As long as the reviewer is honest at the time they wrote it, I don't see how anyone else has standing to take issue. If you disagree with a review, review it yourself. Then sit back and watch democracy in action. Fdev is not stupid. They had to be fully aware the beating they were going to take in Steam reviews, customer reviews in general, and from game journos. They chose to launch Odyssey 8 or 9 months before it was ready for the PC. They did this to themselves.

Ok, to put it in simple words: I didn't and don't blame FD for making mistakes, as we all do. But I do blame certain elements of an entitled crowd (possibly even including you) for ruining the entire game because of them, or just because they think it's cool, and it makes no difference at all anyway while the game is safely in Steam Hell. And yes, I know NMS and it's story, thank you for assuming otherwise.

Your ad hominem parts are forgiven. Take a step back next time.

O7,
🙃
I came on the forum this morning just to have a review of the kind of hell the game is (still) in, only to find you blaming the community for what has happened to ED...

I'm a pretty laid back individual but you are pushing might close to me putting you on my very short ignored list!

Edit. After reading a few more posts... > Ignored list.

Thank you for telling me so, even after a whole week. As I get it, few manage to earn such merits. Now I feel honoured! (y)

What I would perhaps expect is that players who submitted a negative review upon Odyssey's release correct it if they are still playing it now and think enough has been done to sort it out. It does not make a great deal of sense for someone to leave a thumbs down for a game that they enjoy enough to play regularly; their unhappiness about past development problems can go into the text.

In a system where both games and reviews can be readily updated, there is no particular reason for a game's score to represent an historic state of the game. There should be some pragmatic motivation to sort this out by players who want the product to continue existing, because better reviews means more players means more game.

Consider the flipside of that & the 'played for 5000 hrs & there's nothing to do' reviews ;)

I'd assume many of those who tried Odyssey & left a negative review may not have continued to play.

Fun fact, there is no difference on steam whether you play Odyssey or Horizon content. So they could have stopped playing Odyssey and you wouldn't know.

Also, the reviews system is not granular. It's thumbs up or down.

As per your logic however, good reviews should have continued to play. Some didn't. But maybe they get a free pass ?

How is this not being flagged as "personal attack." Why are the mods allowing this kind of discourse?
