General / Off-Topic Game of Thrones

To celebrate the arrival of the third season of Game of Thrones on its service, the English company Blinkbox video on demand did not hesitate to make this huge dragon skull, the size of a London bus. Spectacular sculpture, which measures almost three meters high and 12 meters wide, has not gone unnoticed on Charmouth beach in Dorset in south west England.

If you haven't seen Season 3 yet ... all I will say is, for episode 9, get some friends around who like to watch it ... and video yourselves watching about the last 10 mins (I think ... say 20 mins to be safe)

If you don't mind a bit of spoilers ... esp if you've seen Ep 9 ...

That was funny :D I didn't react like that at all.

Just don't play it out loud at work, naughty words and all that.:D

Woah that last episode was indeed epic.. Can't wait for the next season to begin! I wouldn't think I would become such a fan, but meanwhile I'm the biggest I guess. I even finally found a cool poster at Posterlounge which I ordered, should be arriving soon. I already have some art prints hanging but this one especially will get a nice spot on the wall:)

I bought books 1-4 after watching the first two seasons, and struggled to get through book 1, since I'm not a fan of Martin's writing style (though the ideas are great)
I liked book 1, but they got worse at each addition. Books 4 and 5 were practically intolerably boring (long travel descriptions with no relation to plot whatsoever).

There must be something wrong with George RR Martin! He's a sick puppy! I have read the books and know whats coming - well up to the end of book 5 - but watching S03E09 really choked me up!

Can not wait for the rest of them!!

Brian :)

I don't know what's coming, so that episode was a total shock!

It's a shame to hear that the books don't get any better, style-wise, because I do enjoy the story, especially the idea that anyone could go at any minute.

Having said that, I've heard that the TV series has deviated quite strongly from the books, including killing of some people that were around in book 5, and giving screentime to a particular character that dropped off the face of the world, and was possibly dead, until they turned up in one of the later books

By the way, this video popped up in my Youtube suggestions, an 84 minute panel timed with the Emmys, which I guess was before Season 3: it has Sansa, Arya (sp?), GRRM, Cersei (sp?), Tyrion, the producers, Jon, Catlyn (sp?) and the Kingslayer, and is quite fun :)

I've heard that the TV series is actually quite close to the books, and is true with what I have read of the first book so far. GRRM also writes the TV series as well as the books.

If the books are going to be a chore to read, I might just stick with the TV series and not bother with the books.

I watched 9 and 10 last night... holy flurking schnit!!!!!!!!!!

Whilst I did enjoy all of the books I definitely think that they lose a lot of direction in books 4 and 5. Although by the end of Dance of Dragons you begin to see hints of why those 2 books seemed to faff around for so long.

I suppose there'll be a big "Clockwise Screenwipe" with a "One Year Later" caption on the TV series then... It was a lot of dribble about traveling about, to my mind a lot of time wasted in one place by a certain character who has a lot of goals.

Ha ha, not telling!!!

To be fair a lot happens in those 2 books, but not much of it seems to serve the long term narrative (although by the end of it you can begin to see how it might do).

In regards to Dany (I'm assuming this is who you're referring to?) She actually only remains in Mereen for 1 book, but a Feast for Crows focuses mostly on different characters and the first half of Dance of Dragons runs parallel to the events of FoC. This makes it feel like she's been there for eternity, when in reality it has only been the 1 book. Hopefully it picks up in Winds of Winter though, because several of the main characters seem to achieve very little in those 2 books to be fair (pretty much all of them other than Jon Snow).
