General / Off-Topic Game of Thrones

I used to. Sadly I've had to stop. The books you see. They are so much more than the series. Plus the series now includes spoilers not yet presented in the books.

Pretty much all the series characters are card board cutouts of the book characters. Kind of obvious you might say, TV requires this, but why spoil the future books for myself by watching a poor imitation I say. Been reading them since 1996 so...

The TV series in its latest series is starting to depart quite radically from the books (Griff's totally absent). I like to think that from this point on they're separate. Be nice if GRRM has two different endings, one for TV and one for the books.

Can't see the resemblance personally, quite different facial structures especially around the eyes. They do both have long hair, and eyes, nose and mouth and happen to be in the roughly the same position in those pics of course so I suppose there's a resemblance in that much.

If I see proof she outlaws slavery I will merc for her in the Empire.

One more naive fool who sees the word 'slavery' and knee-jerk thinks it's like the brutal no-rights, no-personhood 'traditional' slavery. I really wish they'd rebrand it properly as 'indentured servitude'. If anything it's structured more like military service (in before off Vets) than 'traditional' slavery. They get paid, they are fed and housed, they just can't 'quit' until the contract expires (which is set when entering into the contract). Are there cases of 'Imperial Slave' abuse? Surely, but there's plenty of cases of sexual harassment and practices by legitimate businesses to exploit their employees, too. But you're right. Let's do away with Imperial Slavery and fill the Empire with starving poor while at the same time decreasing productivity. Great plan!

The brutal no-rights, no-personhood slavery is outlawed in Imperial space, but since they have "Imperial Slaves" I can't help but believe the demand (represented in game or not) for the 'traditional' slavery is miniscule there compared to the freedom and corruption for all Federation. :spits:

I'm not sure why it frustrates me so much that people like you have no idea what it is you oppose in a video game, since in the much more important real-life, political systems are rife with voters (on all sides, ignorance is universal) utterly clueless as to the platform of the candidates they support or oppose.

Your logic is flawed. If there's enough money and work to employ these people at a fair wage and living standard as slaves, then there's enough money and work to employ them as free citizens. The only way in which it works out that the society can afford to keep them as slaves but not as free citizens is if, as slaves, they are being forced to endure living standards, working conditions and/or safety risks that no free person would tolerate.

Just watched all 8 episodes of the latest season so far.

SPOILERS AHEAD

I'm pretty much out now. At the time of the red wedding, I think I was just about reaching my shock limit - even so I was still happy to keep watching, but not only have my favourite characters been killed off now (The Hound, Barristan Selmy), but I think they just crossed the line for me with Sansa getting r**** by Ramsey. It wasn't so much that one scene in particular that got me (partly because I saw it coming from miles away), but it was that on top of everything else; Now I think that between the excessive death/gore/betrayal/despair and endless upon endless supply of floppy weiners, I'm beginning to feel it's actually just being sick and depraved for the sake of it. The thing is...the shocking bits don't shock me anymore. I expect them. I find myself wondering about what kind of people the writers are while I'm watching the show. I actually think I'm bored because the level of depravity being reached here is bordering on actually being . It reminds me of that episode of South Park where they write that book ie McBoogerballs just to write the worst book possible. That's Game of Thrones. They're starting with the idea of "how sick can we make this?" and working backwards, building the story around it.

My prediction for the end of the entire show is: Everyone...and I mean EVERYONE...gets killed, bummed...bummed and killed, or killed and bummed - and that's it...and the end credits just say "**** YOU!", and possibly have a video of George RR Martin dancing around naked with his floppy weiner waving around all over the place.

...but hey - I suppose it's better than the rest of what's on. Someone told me a dog won Britain's got talent the other day. Ugh...what is that show anyway?

This thread brought something to mind for me. I don't watch Game of Thrones (don't have HBO, and don't feel enough desire to find less legitimate sources). I also don't want to participate in PP.

So the thought that occured to me is this: I wonder if there's a correlation between GoT watching and PP participation?

Not really, no.
