Before you all get super excited please remember this is only an announcement. Nothing is actually happening. They game is not going to change in any way. You basically just got an announcement telling you that there would be another announcement in a few months that will explain to you (through that announcement) that they will be announcing the launch of something in the future...

This to me is more worrying than anything because it shows that they don't actually have anything new to release for the game in the next cycle when the forums erupt in anger. This is a stall tactic to cover up that fact.

They have already announced 1.4 that includes new ships and more upgrades. I honestly don't know what else they could do.

It would make a nice change if they did show some WIP stuff in advanced. People are always screaming for a roadmap, do you really think that it's a huge problem to show what's upcoming for the next year or so? Seems to work exceptionally well for other developers.

At least they get stuff onto our hard drives.

Would be great, would love to see it, but they'd need to make a sweeping range of fundamental changes to the way security and piracy works to make it viable (all of which would be very welcome). I'll be very surprised if it's not planetfall, but pirate bases would be cool too. Can we have both?

They are not new ships. They are more ships that we already have passed off as new ships. There werre supposed to be 30 ships. So far we have gotten 2 diamond backs and three dropships and two eagles...

And yet, the masses will scream in joy just like they did for the Phanthom Menace. Yay, more Star Wars! But later they will realise they were had.

Well we have seen what happens when something gets pulled (AI), at a guess they don't want that on the forums again.

Maybe 'Landing' on planets is a slightly misleading term coined by the community. In the previous games it wasn't just about landing, just getting close enough to do something. Attack a target or photograph a military base or drop a mining machine. Could be interesting to have those kinds of missions back.

add to the above 3 lasting consequences for serial killers, ships crew and the odd "something, something" to find whilst in deep space exploring and i would be as happy as a pig in erm.... mud!.

They probably got their time zones mixed up just like everyone else. I am currently in the UK hosting an online training session in australia, waiting for an announcement from Europe. Don't know where i am right now ;)
