I allways look through the gap between rift and my nose to see the keyboard. Works fine for me.

I tried that already from 1.06, but military alphabet is more reliable, for those ho speak bad English

When I was using only the keyboard and stick, I glued a little piece of rubber on the [W] key and binded all the other commands around it.
Now with two sticks and VA the keyboard is completely out of the way.
