You can choose whenever you start a new commander - so if you wipe your save you get to choose again. And yes if there is a full wipe you would get the same choice.

Well my day is now complete. I have beers and a day off work, then i find out they are releasing gamma a lot earlier than i expected

sorry to bang on about this, but 'if' seems to be quite ominous there. are you still unsure if it needs to happen or not?

If they do it, it will be for technical reasons, not just for the jolly. They can't say for definite because they don't know yet what fixes they might have to do which will require a wipe.

you don't need to go onto their site and download anything else. just run the launcher as usual and it will download the latest client for you

No, that can get messy, always wipe after release .. it's safer.

But really looking forward to seeing what I can get up to in Gamma, thanks FD .. you have delivered a fantastic base for the start of your E: D journey .. a lot of people (myself included) have probably expected a bit too much for gamma/release, in terms of content amongst other things, considering how far you have come in such a short space of time I really believe that you have a great game on your hands now and for the future so, here's to the future of Elite: Dangerous .. I sure it will be a great ride !
