Ganked!

Yes in CS, DOTA, Rocket League or any PvP environment generally you'll be in the heat of the moment and beat whatever opponent is in front of you. It isn't so much that I'm a noob really - more so that I'm mass locked and have just spawned, nothing about it is fun or rewarding for either party beyond juvenile hijinks.

Most PvPs offer a range of player interactions- A) Good battles/contests with opponents B) Good teamworking with colleagues C) Grief/team killing/spawn camping/abuse

I'd like to continue with Open play as theoretically there is some A & B types of interaction out there but so far I've only seen C from ED.
Sorry, I didn't want to imply that you're a noob. I wanted to say exactly what I said: that in other PvP games newbies are fair game and I don't see why would it be any different in this game. If rebuy is an issue for me, I have a few DBXes and an AspX that I use for my visits to ShinDee or engineers. If I get ganked, it's not a biggie and hopefully I've noticed something that I've missed doing.

Ganking is a completely normal form of pastime in other open world PvP games (Crossroads/Barrens anyone?) and I don't see why would it be any different in ED. What I see being different from other games is lack of response. When PvPers gank, they do it hoping to provoke some kind of response and having a real fight. Last time I ganked in WoW, we brought the server down because a few hundred people went into the battle full Braveheart style. Twas great fun! :)

I see 2 possible and important reasons for that:
  1. Squadrons are relatively new and not everyone is in a squadron.
  2. Lack of common (general) communication channels / some common hub where everyone hangs out when not doing anything else, where someone could yell: "Gankers in Deciat".

I been on the receiving end of this while i was stream live 3 days old at the time by guess who so not sure what the RULES are on this from FDEV but from twitch point of view stream sniping is a NO NO

But this player also goes around to other streamers and ask them if they are playing open or solo/group play then hunts them down just to get reactions then up loads them to places like youtube if he get good reactions so i seen and been told.

In one day while i was watching 4 streamers while gaming on my 4 screen set up he went to each one in turn and asked the above. So is this a harassment or not its kind of a gray area from Fdev's part as i could not find any thing but word of mouth and text from other streamers and viewers on the matter.

I like to see the rules on this matter also. As for NPC doing it i 1 run i was doing i got interdicted over ten time's but then i was running multipool missions and that was the main reason for it to happen fun thing was it was from the station to the planet on the outer ring of the system so a very short run.

But have notice that its ur in a type 9-10 just drop out of supercruise and boost away till you jump ( i found the best way ) reason for this is that even slowing right down to do interdicted mini game 9 out of ten time NPC win cuz u cant keep up with the movement of the interdicted escape route which is a little shocking when you think about it.
Or call the waaaaambulance. Streamers aren't special.

Sure then 30 or 40 minutes later when you actually show up there everything is over with.

Random flash mob fighting doesn't seem feasible in this game because of the sheer size of the galaxy, the intentional slow crawl of getting from point A to point B and the fact that people can jump away, regain their strength and come back. People don't want to lose their ships so even if they enter the fight the odds are they're going to bolt as soon as their shields drop unless these are hardcore player-vs-player types. This doesn't even cover the hackers.

You need 30-40 minutes to cross 150 ly? (Assuming that you live in some godforsaken Imperial village on the outskirts of the Bubble.) 😱
Rebuy cost is a non-issue with today's earning rates.
Have you missed the recently posted video in which 2 or 3 players killed Harry with non-PvP builds?
It doesn't need much, but it does need some effort...

.

The interdiction device seems to be completely one sided in it's effectiveness, giving no indication at all to the player being interdicted. So, we have modules for killing, but we have main shields, hull protections, module protections, shield boosters and ECM's as countermeasures against them, not that any of them offer total protection, but some defensive measure at least. Can we have a module which senses a pending interdiction, or some kind of module offering a scrambling signal against it, or an upgrade to the ship radar which senses a ship in your six, or the ability to allow radar to detect targeting by someone in pursuit?
I’ve got to agree here that the FSDI seems one-sided. I like your suggestions as well. There’s got to be a balance, so if someone can engineer an FSDI to be really good, there should also be a counter module to counter that as well. I’ve been ganked in a few occasions where as soon as I was pulled out of supercruise, I got hit w something, started overheating and got “temperature critical” and died within 5 seconds. That wasn’t fun at all, no challenge (not even for the griefer) and I was more disappointed that he/she didn’t provide an opportunity for role playing but it was pretty damn exciting to see the message come up and try to escape. So yes the excitement is there but the possibility to interact at all wasn’t. either scenario, I don’t know what to expect and I get that adrenaline rush so regardless of how it plays out, it’s still exciting for me!

You can only engineer an interdictor to improve the opportunity to grab someone depending on circumstance. As far as I know it doesn't make the mini-game easier for anyone. It's either longer range with decreased arc or increased arc with decreased range. It's very much a "side grade." In fact, there's pretty good reasons to not engineer an interdictor depending on what you need.

There are very strong counters to interdiction: experience, situational awareness, good ship building, and evasion should you get pulled down. With a little engineering on top of that, a person never interested in combat can become un-gankable relatively quickly.

You can ask for support to get your insurance back and report the player. Been done before.

Stream sniping is cheating. Stricto senso.

Is stream sniping when someone ganks a commander that’s streaming live? How would the ganker know the prey is live streaming though?

Well it depends where the battle was taking place. If you're going to conveniently put in a hundred fifty light-years away and disregard how far from this star it is then sure. But I can just as easily say it's twice that far and 183000 light seconds from the star.

The point is most of these conflicts are over relatively quickly. That is unless you have two completely tricked out PVP builds and two pilots who go fly assist off most of the time and spam SCB's.

I'm not saying it can't happen but I'm saying it's not conducive to instant combat with this type of game because the playing field is so large. Just getting everyone together has to be pre-planned most of the time.

Stream sniping is when someone is watching said CMDR's livestream to intercept and gain other advantages over the streaming CMDR

I’m gonna get some hate for saying this and that’s okay, we all have different play styles and I think Fdev is right to allow ganking. I also think it was a very smart move for them to set up the permit locked training zone or whatever it’s called for new commanders to learn the game in safety (although I’ve read a post that gankers created alt accounts just for this). For me, I stayed in solo for the first month of gameplay until I felt comfortable and after my first time being ganked I actually enjoyed the excitement of being prey. I can’t remember flying in solo since. o7

Honestly, in a way being ganked in ED is like being bullied in kindergarten: at some point you grow up and understand enough about life that you realize you really could have just said "no" and that would have been the end of it. You can only really be ganked in ED if you are either clueless or feeling generous and humor the gankers. :p

I have yet to hear a story about a ganker that's ganking 183000 ls from the star. And I'll bow to him because of the effort he put in. Most ganks happen in well known hotspots: ShinDee, engineers or even Beagle Point.

If those ganking conflicts are over relatively quickly, I really don't understand why outcries regarding ganking are so loud? In my 1,300 hours of playtime I had 67 insurance claims and less than 5% were caused by gankers. It seems to me that someone's ego has been hurt really badly. Personally I don't care if a station, an NPC or a player killed me, the consequence is the same to me: the rebuy screen. But I'll admit that being killed by a living player after RPing a heist, while I'm trying to get away is much more fun than being ganked by 2 NPCs, but it's just me. ;)

So if I interdicted someone 10000 light seconds from a star in any system in the bubble and you were 200 light years away. Could you make it to that location and drop into that instance in time to actually get involved? If the answer is maybe not then you understand that large organic battles on a wide playing field where people are scattered and travel is intentionally slow to give the illusion of distance are going to be difficult at best. They have to be pre-planned so everyone can meet up there. That's all I'm saying. I'm not saying anything about ganking. I couldn't care less since I play in Solo.

Have you accidentally missed the topic's title? It's "Ganked!". If you can't say anything about ganking, I suggest you to move on to some more interesting topic for you, because here you're just generating noise and not contributing to the discussion.
