Ganked!

Sol, at Daedalus Station. I have alot of experience with NPC interdiction, especially on the lookout when carrying cargo, as I anticiapate this to happen. I was actually approaching the station within a few minutes of entering the mailslot, but still outside the fire zone. I don't expect to be interdicted doing this, as I was not carrying cargo or guns or doing a mission of any type, just landing at the station after collecting DWE's. After four years of playing, I have experience and situational awareness, but the ship was not built for combat, just exploration. I was in a Viper and he had an Anaconda with Shard Cannons. Boom! in less than five seconds of running while boosting.

I find this account confusing. You were close to entering the mailslot, but still outside the no fire zone, after collecting DWEs... so flying in normal space, not supercruise, and you were interdicted?

I think it's fine, it's part of the game.
I was interdicted only once and it was in Sol, guy told me "stop your ship and drop cargo" (the federal security was already alerted of the crime but I did not know at the time) so I started to write "no cargo" but the guy did not wait and started to shoot at me, then he rammed me and at the same time I saw a message 'Crime response flight deployed' and 2 federal security ships just dropped out of SC and the guy ran away lol.
The federal security response time was fast: 45 seconds.

Doesn't the term "ganked" mean ganged up on in a massively unfair way? I think it implies that you were attacked by overwhelming odds instead of pirated in a game play sort of way. I think this word is probably used too often.

I don't believe you can every get "ganked" by NPCs. If you're not prepared for NPCs be them regular or bugs, it's your fault.

Back in early 1.2 I almost lost my Viper to an eight Vulture gold trap (I knew it was a trap, I just didn't know it would be against eight vultures). Was a closer call than most of the 8v1 PvP encounters I've been in.

What is the ingame reward for the spawn campers?

Destruction of their enemies' assets.

I mean - PvP - no Cmdr was into PvP within days of buying the game

I was.

My first PvP encounter during my CMDRs very first mission to deliver stuff to Freeport, within minutes of finishing the tutorial missions (I made sure I could complete incursion before playing the actual game) and at the end of that very first day I had a postive PvP KDR (PvP 'kills' were actually in the CMDR stats back then).

I never onsidered PvP an 'endgame' thing. The potential for hostile encounters with other player controlled character is something I took as a given from the beginning and was always a prime consideration of mine. Indeed, I feel it's a necessary part of the backdrop to a credible and organic setting. True, it was easier to get into when most everyone was inexperienced, the best combat ship in the game was the Viper, and there was no Engineering, but even if I were to start playing a game like this today, understanding escape and evasion would be something I'd consider essential and would thus be something I strive to become competent in very early.

I really don't understand how/why players even talk about ganked or whatever, if you can't get out of an interdiction you're just not doing it right.
I've not been in the solo from the first time in open- I have no fear of it and I get out of interdictions always- unless they throw me into the star and they don't come in there lol.

So if I interdicted someone 10000 light seconds from a star in any system in the bubble and you were 200 light years away. Could you make it to that location and drop into that instance in time to actually get involved? If the answer is maybe not then you understand that large organic battles on a wide playing field where people are scattered and travel is intentionally slow to give the illusion of distance are going to be difficult at best. They have to be pre-planned so everyone can meet up there. That's all I'm saying. I'm not saying anything about ganking. I couldn't care less since I play in Solo.
You get in open and play along with me! I'll be your guns ;)
